1101 - 1110 AD
1101 AD
*108.Murtough
Mor - the Greater O Brian
the Heberian Dal gCais
Ui
mBriain 44th King
of Cashel / Munster, after prompting from
St. Anselm
the Catholic Archbishop of Canterbury in England, who had written again to him
personally
recognizing him as the
King of
Ireland, had decided to hold a "religious" convention
on the Rock of Cashel
in
Co. Tipperary in the north - east of the
Munster Province where
he was to personally hand over the
previous
Royal Fortress
of the Heberian
Cashel / Munster
Kings
to
the Catholic Church in
Ireland with all it's churches and fortifications. He
was to transfer its use for the
devout and religious, and the Catholic
Bishop
of Cashel now became
the Archbishop of Cashel there,
1102 AD *108.Murtough Mor O Brian the Heberian Dal gCais 180th King of Ireland married one of his "daughters" to the Norman, Arnulf of Montomery, whose brother was the Norman Earl of Shrewsbury who was against Henry 1st who was now the new Teutonic Norman King of England as the marriage had been negotiated by Gerald of Windsor who was the steward at his Castle of Pembroke in Wales, and who would later become the "direct male line" ancestor of the Geraldines (Fitz Geralds) in Ireland and he would also come to play a big part in the future in Ireland when his Cambro Norman descendants would come into Ireland after the Anglo - Norman English Invasion that was to begin very soon in 1167 AD. *108.Murtough Mor O Brian also married another of his "daughters" to Magnus Bare Legs the Teutonic Viking King, and he also decided now to make Limerick in Co. Limerick in the mid - north - west of the Munster Province his "main fortress," breaking with the Heberian Dal gCais Ui Turlough Ui mBriain tradition of ruling from Kincora in the north - east of Co. Clare.
1103 AD *108.Murtough Mor O Brian the 180th King of Ireland was "defeated" this year in the "Battle of Mag Cobo," and the Ulaid Septs in the north - east of the Ulster Province who had previously sought his "help" then found that they now had to make "peace" there with their previous overlord *109.Donnell Mac Loughlin / Mheic Lochlainn the Heremonian Dal Cuinn "northern" Ui Niaill Cenel nEogain 51st King of Aileach who was the 179th King of Ireland - with opposition who still basically only ruled in the "north" anyway.
Magnus of Norway, the "last" of the Scandinavian Sea Viking Kings, decided to now try and take over Ireland for himself, and to this end he had set sail from Norway down to the Orkneys, then onto the Hebrides, until he finally reached Ireland, where he began creating further havoc by "besieging" the Irish Septs all over Ireland, and during this time while he was sailing along the the coast of the Ulster Province feeling he was well now in control of his destiny he demanded that, the Irish Septs along the way there, kill their cattle to supply his men with "fresh meat," but they "refused" his order, so he had his Viking warriors disembark from their ships and head inland to obtain the necessary provisions he required. On their return journey back to the ships Magnus of Norway and his Viking warriors found that they had to travel through coastal "marshes" and the Irish Septs who were there then attacked them and many of the Vikings were slain during the ongoing confusion, while Magnus of Norway was personally protected by his Viking warriors who continued to "surround" him with a wall of sheilds, but soon they found that their escape route was hindered by a "dyke," and during the ongoing conflict Magnus of Norway was severely "wounded" with a spear that went through "both his legs" below his knees, which he personally grabbed hold of and broke off. Meanwhile some of the surviving Viking warriors eventually managed to climb over the dyke wall, while others continued to flee back towards their anchored ships. As the Irish Septs continued to move in on the remaining surviving Vikings, Magnus of Norway received a final "mortal blow" on the neck with an axe while his immediate defenders who were still trying to protect him were also slain, but Vidkunn one of his Viking warriors was able to retrieve Magnus's sword and Standard and carry them back to their ships, and along with the other Viking warriors who still survived he hoisted their sails and went directly back to Norway. Despite this devastating result for the Teutonic Vikings on this occassion they were to continue to have control over Dublin on the north - east coast of Southern Leinster, and during this year, they were also to construct Reginald's Tower on the quay in their onging settlement at Waterford in Co. Waterford in the south - east of the Munster Province, which is still in existence there today.
1105 AD Kelly / Ceallach from the Heremonian Dal Cuinn Colla Da Crioch Ui Sinaig Sept who had their territory in the Ulster Province was to become the Abbot of Armagh this year, as the Clann Sinaig / Sinaich, a sub - Sept of the Ui Echdach Sept, had previously held the Abbacy of Armagh for over 100 years despite the fact that their Abbots were only ever laymen.
1106
AD
Kelly
/ Ceallach from the
Heremonian Dal Cuinn Colla Da Crioch
Ui Sinaig Sept now became the Catholic Bishop of
Armagh
in the Ulster Province, "unifying"
both
positions of
Abbot
and
Bishop (supervisor) creating a new diocese at
Armagh, which would come to
rely heavily on
St. Malachy O Morgair - the Reformer also from Armagh in Co. Armagh
in the south - east of the Ulster Province, who was to be a student during the
Rath Breasail
Synod there as St. Malachy's father was the
head teacher / fer Leginn at the school at
Armagh and St. Malachy was to later also became a great friend of
St. Bernard who had
previously founded the Cistercian Order, which was to have
a great effect on him, and who later also wrote
his life story.
