1167 AD - 1168 AD
" The Beginning of the End for True Gaelic Ireland. "
1167 AD *115.Rory O Connor
the
Gaelc Milesian
Heremonian Dal Cuinn
Ui Briuin
Ai Siol Muireadhaigh /
Sil Murray
Ui Conchobair
183rd King
of
Ireland,
was now trying to
organize the "whole" of Ireland,
and to this end he held an
Irish
National Assembly
/ Oenach at
Atheboy
in
Co. Meath
in the territory of the O Melaghlin's
Heremonian Dal
Cuinn "southern"
Ui Niaill Clann
Cholmain kingdom in the south - east of Northern Leinster, where
18,000 horsemen
/ marchi from all the
Tuaths / Family regions attended,
along with 1,000
Viking Danes from
Dublin.
They introduced
new
"Irish
Laws"
at this "Assembly" to protect any one in the future who would be
"travelling" through out the length and breadth of
Ireland
and also achieved an "agreement"
among all of the people in
Ireland at the present time, to
once again accept the "tenents" of the
"Irish Brehon Law," and
that
the settlement
at Dublin
from now on
would be
the "main capital town" in Ireland. All of the
Catholic Archbishops
in Ireland were now "Irish,"
within an
Irish
Catholic Church,
with their main
See and
University to be at
Armagh
in
Co. Armagh
in the south - east of the
Ulster Province. Things were finally
looking good for
the general population in Ireland,
as there was now also a greater "understanding" among them all, and they
were also "militarily united," and the
construction of
many more churches and
Celtic High Crosses were begun, and all
of the
people in
Ireland now looked
forward to some "stability" and mutual understanding
under a recognized overall Gaelic Milesian
King as *115.Rory O Connor
was to give the first grant to the
Armagh
University for the education of the
Irish
people in
Ireland and
their kinsmen the
Irish Scots
/ Scottii
in the Highlands of Scotland.
Among those also in attendance were 110.Diarmait Mac Carthy
the Heberian Eoghanacht
Chaisil King of
Southern Munster / Desmond, the son of
109.Cormac Mac Carthy,
110.Murtough Mor O Brian who was
still at
this time the
Heberian Dal gCais
King of Northern Munster
/ Thomond,
Diarmait O Melaghlin
/ Mac Loughlin / Mael Sechlainn the
Heremonian Dal Cuinn
"southern" Ui Niaill
Clann Cholmain
King
of Meath,
Donough
O Carroll the
Heremonian Dal Cuinn
Colla Da Crioch
King
of Orghialla
in
Southern Ulster
and
Co. Louth
in the north - east of Northern Leinster, and all of the
Gaelic
Chiefs
from the Leinster
Province.
*115.Rory O Connor
the Heremonian Dal Cuinn
Ui Briuin Ai
Siol Muireadhaigh / Sil
Murray
183rd King of Ireland,
now more committed then ever to endeavour to ensure
that there was to be "total
stability" in Ireland took
his combined forces to also submit
112.Niall Mac Loughlin / Lochlainn the
new Heremonian Dal Cuinn "northern"
Ui Niaill
Cenel nEogain
King
in
the north of the
Ulster Province,
who was a son of *111.Murtough
Mor Mac Loughlin
the recently deceased
Gaelic Milesian
182nd King
of
Ireland, as well as their close kinsmen the Heremonian
Dal Cuinn "northern"
Ui Niaill
Cenel Conaill Sept, who had previously
also challenged his
overall authority in Ireland. Both of these
Heremonian Dal Cuinn "northern" Ui Niaill
Septs were to
now also submit
to him and acknowledge him as the
183rd
King
of
Ireland,
and to weaken their authority there further he
now "divided" the Hermonian Cenel nEogain kingdom
of Aileach
there
in Ulster Province between the
2 main individual
Cenel nEogain
Septs,
with
Callain to the north of the Mountain going to
112.Niall Mac Loughlin
/ Lochlainn
in return for his compliance, and for 2 hostages, (O
Cane / O Kane
from the
Cenel nEogain
Ua Cathain Sept who had their territory at Craeb Tulca and
Macan
Ghaill O Bran
from the Ua Brain
Sept). The other "half"
of the Cenel nEogain territory to the south of the
Mountain, (Co. Tyrone)
he apportioned to 111.Aed -
the Lazy Limbed Youth
O Niall who also gave over 2 hostages,
(Ua Mael Aedha from the
Cenel Aedghusa, and
O Hurley from the
Ua hUrthuile
Sept who were a
Sept
of the
Heremonian Dal Cuinn Colla Da Crioch
Ui Thuirtre
Sept who was one of
111.Aed O Niall - the Lazy Limbed Youth's foster brothers.
This "new division" of overall authority there in Ulster
Province
was to begin the "rise" once again of the
Heremonian
Dal Cuinn "northern"
Ui Niaill
O Nialls to the
Cenel nEogain Kingship
of Aileach in
Ulster Province.
*115.Rory
O Connor was by now sure that he was
the overall
King of
Ireland - without
opposition and things
would settle down, but u
August: 113.Diarmait Mac Murrough na Gall - of the Foreigners, who was now the "deposed and infamous" Heremonian Cu Corb Ui Cheinnselaig 59th King of Leinster, who had been sent into "exile" had gone into England to seek assistance from Henry 11 the Teutonic Norman King of England who had then given him a "letter" allowing him to seek out "personal support" from the Cambro - Norman Marcher Barons in Wales to try and regain his kingdom back in Southern Leinster as this would keep the Norman Marcher Barons there, who were giving him no end of trouble at this time, busy. (The Anglo Normans originally were a mixture of Scandinavian Vikings made up of Norwegians, Danes and French who previously came into England from what was to become Normandy (Land of the Northmen) in France.) At this time these particular Cambro - Marcher Norman Barons who were there in Wales, were personally involved with the Celtic Welsh Princes endeavouring to work out how to "over throw" Henry 11's authority in Wales while inceasing their holdings and personal fortunes.) Seeing greater opportunity now in Ireland, as outlined in "explicit detail" by the "infamous" 113.Diarmait Mac Murrough na Gall they were to agree to "assist" him in regaining his Leinster Kingship and territory in the future in Ireland, after he promised them whatever their hearts desired, as he was now "really desperate" and more then ready to well and truly gain his epithet of na Gall - of the Foreigners.
113.Diarmait Mac Murrough na Gall - of the Foreigners feeling "uplifted" by his successful negotiations with Henry 11 and the Cambro Norman Barons in Wales, personally "returned" to Ireland and went about trying to recover his previous kingdom and territory in Southern Leinster with a small force of Flemings that he had obtained from the south of Wales, and although his new found Cambro foreign forces would be able to assist him to take back some of his previous territory in Southern Leinster, this particular initial expedition was to turn out to be a "fizzer," as he had been a "tyrant" to his own people there and they had been glad to see the back of him. His new found Fleming supporters would soon "quarrel" amongst themselves also, and this was to mean that the "majority" of them were to eventually go back to Wales leaving him on his own to fend for himself. Despite this 113.Diarmait Mac Murrough na Gall was not disheartened by this reversal, as he also still had the promise of further armed support from Robert Fitz Stephen and the other Norman Marcher Barons in Wales, (who were all to be related), and who would soon reap bloody havoc on the Irish Septs / Fines in Ireland with their superior weaponry, and inside information courtesy of the unflappable 113.Diarmait Mac Murrough na Gall. (They would then become the initial "catalyst" for the severe "racial ethnic and religious" ongoing terror, that was now to occur in Ireland for over the next 1000 years, and even beyond this period also in 6 of the Counties out of the 9 in the Ulster Province).
The 3 most "standout" persons among these new found Anglo - Norman supporters of 113.Diarmait Mac Murrough na Gall would be their eventual overall leader, Richard Fitz Gilbert de Clare / Strongbow 11 the Norman second Earl of Pembroke in Wales, Robert Fitz Stephen, and his half - brother, Maurice Fitz Gerald / Mac Gerailt who were to land later on with further "heavy support" in 113.Diarmait Mac Murrough na Gall's territory in Co. Wexford in the south - east of Southern Leinster as 113.Diarmait Mac Murrough na Gall had previously promised them the surrounding territory there if they were to assist him, although he knew full well that this was against the "Irish Brehon Law." Raymond Le Gros - the Large Fitz Gerald, who was another of the Anglo - Norman Barons of some importance was to become the original direct male line ancestor of the "Grace" families in Ireland, and had gained his particular epithet because of his "massive size." He was also Maurice Fitz Gerald's nephew. and was married to Basilia, Strongbow 11's sister, while Hervey de Montmorency Marisco, was another who was also an "uncle" of Strongbow 11, as he had married Nesta the daughter of Maurice Fitz Gerald, and Robert de Barry / de Barri was also another of Maurice Fitz Gerald's "nephews," who was a brother to Gerald / Giraldus Cambrensis - of Wales de Barri (1146 AD - 1220 AD) who was to become the author of a manuscript titled "The Conquest of Ireland," that would be used as a source for early Anglo - Norman history in Ireland. (In the years that lay ahead Robert de Barri's descendants too, would also become "More Irish then the Irish.") Meiler Fitz Henry, who was a son of a "half - brother" of Robert Fitz Stephen, was another, who was actually a bastard son of Henry 1st, whose descendants were to also Gaelicize their name eventually as Mac Einri. (Descended from a son of Henry.) Maurice de Priondragas / Prendergast was to be another Anglo Norman Baron who would come to play a "major negative role" in Ireland, especially in the Connacht Province in the years that lay ahead.
*115.Rory
O Connor
the
Heremonian
Dal Cuinn Ui Briuin Ai
Siol Muireadhaigh
/ Sil Murray
183rd King
of
Ireland, and his kinsman, 113.Tiernan O Rourke
the Heremonian Dal Cuinn
Ui Briuin Breifne
King of West Breifne,
who had his kingdom
in Co. Leitrim in the far north - east of the
Connacht Province,
had both been informed of 113.Diarmait Mac Murrough na Gall's return
to Ireland with his "Flemish"
foreigners, and
the
ongoing nefarious activities that they were carrying out in
Southern Leinster against the
Irish Septs there and they decided to go after
him and engage him in
battle, and once again
he was forced to "submit" and give over hostages to
*115.Rory O Connor. This time they came to an amicable agreement in which
113.Diarmait Mac Murrough na Gall agreed to pay compensation for
originally "abducting" 113.Tiernan O
Rourke's
wife,
114.Dervorgilla,
those many years before,
but unfortunately it was by now
all
too late, as the "cat was well and truly out of the bag," and the
future Fate of Ireland was now in full play and no
one could stop it, even if they wanted to. 113.Diarmait Mac Murrough na Gall
was now reduced
to being only a "petty"
Heremonian
Cu Corb Ui Cheinnselaig
King and
"Fate" now played another hand in the overall
scheme of things when 109.Turlough O Brian,
the former deposed
Heberian Dalcassian
Ui
Turlough Ui
mBriain
King of Northern Munster
/ Thomond /
Ri Tuadh Muman
who was also the
46th King of
Cashel / Munster,
and one of
the 3 sons of
108.Diarmait
O Brian the previous
45th King of
Cashel / Munster, also
"died" this year at their
fortress at
Killaloe in
Co. Clare
in the north - west of the Munster
Province, and his sudden demise was to have further repercussions as his eldest son
110.Murtough
O Brian
now
became the "new"
Hebrian Dal gCais
King of
Northern Munster
/ Thomond, which would soon lead on to the next terrible chapter in
the ongoing saga that was to come in the form of his younger brother,
110.Donnell Mor O Brian who was married to
one of
113.Diarmait Mac Murrough na Gall's
daughters.
Dervorgilla
O Rourke,
who was the wife of
113.Tiernan O Rourke the "aged"
Heremonian Dal
Cuinn
Ui Briuin Breifne King of West
Breifne in the north of the
Connacht Province, whose initial abduction by
113.Diarmait Mac Murrogh
na Gall, in the first place had been the original catalyst for his
"exile" and the
terrible circumstances that were to follow, was this year to have the
Nun's Church constructed at
Clonmacnoise in Co. Offaly
in the north - west of Southern Leinster, where she would spend the
last remaining years
of her life.
1168 AD *115.Rory O
Connor, the Heremonian
Dal Cuinn Ui
Briuin Ai
183rd King
of
Ireland
feeling that all was now finally going well again in
Ireland, convened another
"Oenach" / Assembly at
Tailten, calling for a Council to meet at Athlone in
Co. Westmeath in the south - west of
Northern
Leinster, to
levy a tax on the whole of Ireland,
to try and bring about
further
"reforms" and thereby increase the "stability" that was
now occurring in
Ireland, and Gilbert of Limerick
gave the Catholic Primate of
Ireland the right
to "crown" the
future
*115.Rory O Connor,
the
Heremonian Dal Cuinn Ui Briuin
183rd
King of
Ireland, realized
that there would now be further trouble ahead in regards to
Mogha's Half and the Munster
Province,
due to the recent rapid vrise of 110.Donnell
Mor
O Brian,
and the fact that he was
113.Diarmait Mac Murrough na Gall's
ally and
son - in - law,
and acting quickly he
moved on the territory in the Munster Province
"dividing" it up again giving half to
110.Diarmait Mac Carthy the
Heberian
Eoghanacht Chaisil
King
of Southern Munster
/ Desmond
who was the son of
109.Cormac
mac Carthy, and
the other "half" to 110.Donnell
Mor
O Brian
the newly inaugurated Heberian Dal gCais
Ui Turlough Ui mBriain
King
of
Northern Munster / Thomond. As a sign of
110.Donnell Mor
O Brian's terrible personal
disposition
and future ambitions,
his first act was to "remove the eyes"
of
110.Brian
na Sleibhe
O Brian,
who was
his
own "younger "brother,
so that
that he would not be any future threat to his position,
and immediately began to "besiege"
*115.Rory O Connor the
Heremonian Dal Cuinn
Ui Briuin
183rd
King of Ireland,
who had his personal territory in
nearby Co. Roscommon in the
Connacht Province and his kinsmen and ally, the "aged"
113.Tiernan
O Rourke the
Heremonian Dal Cuinn Ui Briuin Breifne
King of West Breifne
who had his territory
in
Co. Leitrim
also
in the north - east of
Connacht.
111.Conor O Brian, having fulfilled his vital part in the "scheme of things," as the slayer of 110.Murtough O Brian the previous King of Northern Munster / Thomond, also "died" this year, whose father who was also known previously as 110.Murtough O Brian who had also been the Heberian Dal gCais King of Northern Munster / Thomond who had died in 1151 AD, who was the son of 109.Conor O Brian who had died in 1142 AD and this was to also to see the "end" of his particular Heberian Ui mBriain male line from his grandfather and their common aristocratic warrior ancestor, 108.Diarmait O Brian the previous 45th King of Cashel / Munster, towards the Kingships.
