"1916 Irish Uprising Ends - Artificial Partition Begins."

May 1st - Monday: 238 The Irish defenders who were taken prisoner in Dublin were to be "imprisoned" at the "Richmond Barracks," by the British Imperial Government's Military Forces, and while they were on the way there they were to be "depressed" by what seemed to be a "lack of any understanding" at this stage by the people along the way who were looking on, of what their previous efforts had been all "about," as it had seemed to them that there were few among those particular "onlookers," who showed any real sympathy with their attempt during the 1916 Irish Easter Uprising, to try and bring about Irish Independence / Irish Freedom from British Imperialism. On arriving at the "Richmond Barracks," they were to be "separated" from each other, with all of those who were "identified" by the British Imperial Coalition's "G Men" who had their stronghold in the Dublin Castle (The Devil's 1/2 acre) as they endeavoured to remove the most prominent Irish "leaders," besides anyone of the others who they considered were still a "threat," which included he young Michael Collins, Con O Donovan and Jack Shouldice. While waiting fr his turn Michael Collins thought he heard a "voice" calling out to him, encouraging him to "come out" of the particular group that he was in, and then he heard the "call" twice again, so he responded to the call, and through this simple intervention he was to be able to "survive" to fight another day, and also through his personal strong "committment" go on to change the course of Irish History as an exceptonal individual. At first the British Government was to forward him along with many of the others over to a British prison in Stafford in England, and from there to another British prison in "Frongoch" in Wales, where he was to become the "leader" there, while the British Imperial Government now in "desperation" continued to carry out blanket "arrests" of any Irishmen in Ireland at all without any real "justification" or cause, all over Ireland, while Eamonn de Valera, who had been one of the Irish Volunteer Dublin Brigade's commanders, was placed in with the "aged" Count Plunkett, John O Mahony and Lawrence O Neill, to be interned to await his "sentence," while naturally fearing the worst. The British Imperial Government then produced a "selected group," who they had decided were to be put before a British Imperial Court Marshall, while the rest of the Irish prisoners were to be shuffled off to other various "Concentration Camps" also in England, without even a trial, to serve 8 months there in their British prisons," while those who were not required for the "Court Marshalls" were to be forwarded on to the Stafford Detention Barracks also in England, where the numbers of "arrested" Irishmen to be imprisoned there was to grow to 2500 whether they were personally involved in the 1916 Irish Uprising or not. With their ongoing usual acts of any chance of "humanity" and their usual Imperial "stupidity," further "arrests" were then carried out by the British Imperial Coalition's Dublin Castle authorities in Ireland, with Irish men or women, being "arrested" at random, regardless of whether they had also had any involvement in the Uprising or not, which as usual once again certainly did not help the British Coalition's position at all in the eyes of the populatiion in Ireland.

Among those "arrested" was Hanna Sheehy - Skeffington, who was also "falsley" imprisoned, and when she was eventually to be released, she refused an offer of 10,000 pounds for "Blood Money" made to her by the British Coalition for the previous cold - blooded "murder" of  her husband, Francis Sheehy - Skeffington the well known "peace loving" individual, who everyone knew was a definite "pacifist" who had also been "arrested" while he was trying to stop looters in Dublin and then "imprisoned" in the British Military barracks also where Captain Bowe - Colthurst, an EnglishMilitary Officer, had also arrested two "innocent journalists" in Thomas Dickinson, and Patrick Mac Intyre. He then proceeded to carry out "cold - blooded" murder on the 3 of them at the same time, when he had them placed up against a wall and "executed" by a firing squad, on his own volition, and for no particular reason, and as usual he too was eventually "acquitted" by the British Coalition authorities in the Dublin Castle on the grounds of "Insanity," Also in another act of British Imperialism 15 Irishmen who were suspected of being involved in the Uprising, were to also be "executed" in cold blood, by the British Imperial Coalition without a "trial " also and over a "long drawn out" period, which was to eventually "backfire" on them while showing the whole "World" what they were all about with their "Imperialistic" attitude carried out under the auspices of their "Immoral Union" of total "indifference" to the rights as Irishmen and with the "continuing" stupidity of those in authority as to the type of British Justice that was continually handed out in Ireland to the general population of Ireland for over 7 Centuries'

The "National Volunteers / Redmonites" who were still operating under John Redmond the "leader" of the Irish Parliamentary Party, had assisted the Dublin Castle's R.I.C police and the British Military Forces, while the general public was also "hostile" to the remaining Irish prisoners who were now being held in the Dublin prisons, as they were lead away to the "Rotunda Hospital," where they were to be left until the following Sunday morning, and John Redmond, the leader of what was by now a desperate "failing" Irish Parliamentary Party, who was still hoping to win points, sought his opportunity, and also "publicly" denounced them in the Westminster Parliament in England. Although the Irish Republicans / I.R.B. who had participated in the 1916 Irish Uprising had been prepared for a "military defeat," all of this furter negativity only continued to "lower" their remaining spirits, as they also now seemed to be facing a more "moral" defeat of their making. The 1916 Irish Uprising in the end due to the "intervention" of Eoin O Niell had really only involved a small percentage of the Irish Volunteers in the Dublin region, with about 1,800 persons from the Irish population themselves, also actually taking part all over Ireland, against 5,500 British Imperial Military Forces.Total casualties overall, was to be 1,500 amounting to 450 men, women and children "killed," which included on the Irish side, 56 of the I.R.B. / Irish Republicans and 216 civilians, and on the British Imperial Coalition side, 130 troops including 17 of their officers, with another 9 men missing altogether, and another 357 British Imperial Military Forces were "wounded," with 2,614 people altogether being wounded, including 116 Military Force, and 16 R.I.C. police, while 3 members of the Dublin Castle' R.I.C. Metropolitan Police also "killed" and 3 of them wounded. 179 buildings were destroyed, and the overall monetary damage was estimated to be 2,500,000 pounds

Sir John Maxwell, the British Imperial Government's "Commander in Chief," had by now replaced Augustine Birrell the previous British Chief Secretary in Ireland, who had resigned his position, "warning" Herbert Asquith the British Imperial Coalition Prime Minister, that, "It was not an Irish Rebellion, but it could easily become one," but Sir John Maxwell, with the usual British Imperial Military disregard of any sign of "humanity" in Ireland, passed 90 Death sentences, of which 75 were to be later committed to "Penal Servitude" in British prisons, while picking out a further 15 Irishmen, who he was later to "execute" in cold blood, without any trial, whose British Imperial sentences were to be finally read out, "after" they were to be "executed." To make matters even worse, the "executions" of these 15 Irishmen were to be "dragged out" over a 10 day period, when all were exterminated one by one by shooting them in cold blood, including the 7 Irishmen who had previously had the "intestinal fortitude" to sign the "Proclamation of Irish Independence." Even Edward Carson, who was the "leader" of the "Ulster Unionists" and a member of the British Coalition, also tried to "stop" the shootings, and warned the British Coalition Cabinet that by carrying out these "executions" they were creating "Irish Martyrs," while Arthur Griffith, the "leader" of the "political" Sinn Fein Party, was appalled at the continuing "insensitivity and stupidity" of the British Imperial Coalition in carrying out these executions, although he also said that he, "Knew that they were obtuse and brutal enough to do it."

May 3rd: Patrick Pearse, the Irish I.R.B. / Irish Republican Brotherhood "leader," was to be the one who they "executed" by firing squad "first" without a trial and in cold blood, who had stated prior to his execution that, "My sons were faithful, they fought," then the next to be "executed" was Tom Clarke, the Old Republican, who was 59 year old and married to the young Ned Daly's older sister, Kathleen, and then they "executed" John Mac Bride, the husband of Maude Gonne and the father of Sean Mac Bride who would go on to found "Amnesty International" in the future. Arthur Griffith, the founder of the Gaelic League and the "political" Sinn Fein Party, was also among those "arrested and imprisoned" in "Wandsworth Prison," although he had "not been" involved in anyway in the 1916 Irish Easter Uprising, as he had been "opposed" to their particular course of action, although he had tried to join in once it was full on.Those who had been in command of the I.R.B. / Irish Republican Brotherhood  had wanted to keep him "out" of it, as they were prepared for defeat, but they needed him to stay "free" to publicize the events that had opccurred and to speak out on the reasons "why" they did finally carry out the 1916 Irish Uprising, but he would still not be released until 25th December from "Reading Prison" in England, along with the other Irish prisoners that were still being held there in those British prisons. The British Coalition had reason to be wary of him as he was to be a "methodical organizer" and would continue to "inspire" the population in Ireland to be aware of their "true heritage" and what they could "acheive" if they continued to stand up to the British Imperial Governments and gain their Irish Independence / Freedom and this is why he was to become known as the "The Father Of The Irish Nation."

May 4th - Thursday: Joseph Plunkett, was the next to be "executed" by the British Coalition's Firing Squad, who had married Grace Gifford, the sister - in - law of Thomas Mac Donagh prior to his execution, and he too was also despached without a trial and also "killed" in cold blood.

May 5th: They then "executed" Thomas Mac Donagh, who was a member of the I.R.B. Military Council and the overall "leader" of the 4 Irish Volunteers Dublin Brigades.

May 7th: Sinead de Valera, the wife of Eamonn de Valera, was desperate to save his life, so she went to see the "American Consul" to plead for their intercession in his case, as he had been born in "America." In the meantime the people in Ireland, the people in Britain and the people in the rest of the "World," were gradually becoming more and more "upset," and being made aware by the continuing cold - blooded "executions" of these Irish people by the British Imperial Government, who then decided that they would "stop" the executions, except for those of Eamonn Kent / Ceannt,, James Connolly and the disabled John Mac Dermot  / Sean Mac Diarmada.

May 8th: Eamonn Kent / Ceannt and Michael Mallon were taken from their cell to carry out their individual "executions," and they put in Con O Donovan and Jack Shouldice, to replace them, and they then "executed" the disabled John Mac Dermott / Sean Mac Diarmada who was from the I.R.B. / Irish Republican Brotherhood, along with Eamonn Kent / Ceannt who had also been a commander in the 1916 Irish Easter Uprising, both of whom were put before the British Government's Firing Squad in the prison at "Kilmainham" in Dublin, which is now a museum to the memory of their "Ultimate" committment to try and bring about Irish Independence / Freedom. Michael Collins, was to be so moved by the death of  John Mac Dermott, that he was to express the opinion, "That Ireland will never see another of his like," and was to be personally severely emotionally upset by his "execution," as he had a great "admiration" for him, and believed that he was "A True Son of Ireland," and an "inspiration" to all of his fellow Countrymen. The staid Eamonn de Valera was to inform the British Imperial Government authorities in the Dublin Castle, that he was an Irishman, not a British subject, as both he and Thomas Ashe had also been sentenced to "death," which was later to be commuted to "life imprisonment" and they were first also placed in "Mountjoy Jail" in Dublin, along with Harry Boland, Jack Mac Ardle, Richard King, Michael de Lacy, Seamus Rafter, Con O Donovan, Jack Shouldice, Frank Lawless and James O Sullivan. To get them out of Ireland also a week later, they were all loaded onto a boat and sent "over" to England, to be incarcerated in "Dartmoor Prison," while Eamonn de Valera's half - brother, Father Wheelwright in "America," together with other Redemptorist Priests, approached the "American Senators" there to ask President Woodrow Wilson to intervene to reduce his sentence, but he "refused" to do so.

May 12th: The British Imperial Coalition Government authorities in the Dublin Castle (The Devill's 1/2 Acre) then "executed" James Connelly, the socialist Labour leader, who was also shot, although he had been severely wounded previously and incapacitated and also while he was sitting on a chair in "Kilmainham Jail" in Dublin and Michael Collins, had since gained much respect for him, as he considered him to be a "realist." The other 8 Irishmen the British Imperial Government then "executed" by shooting in cold blood, included Con Colbert of the Fianna, Michael Mallon who had been an Irish commander, and Sean Heuston who was only a youth who was from the Irish Citizen Army. They also "executed" another youth in Ned Daley, who was shot because he fought at the Four Courts, who left behind 9 sisters, as he was the "only boy" in his family. Michael O Hanrahan, an Irish Volunteer, was also "executed" by shooting, and also Liam / Willie Pearse was also "executed" in cold blood, for no other reason, then he was Patrick Pearse's "brother." Thomas Kent / Ceannt was also "executed" for being involved in the "killing" of an R.I.C. Sergeant in Cork on the Tuesday. Countess Constance Markievicz nee Gore - Booth, who was an officer in the Irish Citizen Army, was "imprisoned" after she was to have her "death sentence" commuted, along with Helena Molony, another of the group, who was also "imprisoned." Edward O Dwyer the Catholic Archbishop of Limerick, denounced Sir John Maxwell the British Imperial "Commander in Chief" in Ireland, for his "extreme brutality," and also for his outright "stupidity," and told him, "You have outraged the conscience of the Country." As the general population in Ireland took it all in, the horror of it all began to "sink in," and it all soon turned to "anger," against the stupidity and lack of any "humanity" shown once again by the British Imperial Government, until eventually it began to turn to a "groundswell" of "admiration" for the Irish Republicans, who had fought to "free" the population in Ireland from the grip of the oppressive British "Immoral Union" and who had been willing to pay the "ultimate price" to try and bring about their Irish Independence / Freedom for all of those in the population in Ireland who had been for "Centuries" and were still were being"oppressed" in Ireland, by the British Imperial authorities in the Dublin Castle and their masters in England. George Bernard Shaw was moved to comment. "The British Government are canonising all of their Irish prisoners."

The British Imperial Coalition Government's continuing actions of "arresting" Irishmen and women without any "reason or trial," further "upset" many more of the previously "disinterested" general population in Ireland, as great numbers of "innocent"people in Ireland were continued to be "taken away," and the general cause of Irish Independence / Freedom was then given "further" great strength, as the British Imperial Coalition Government built up even "greater reasons" for the increasing Irish resistance to their "oppressive" authority in Ireland carried out by the Dublin Castle (The Devill's 1/2  Acre) authorities. With their usual disregard for the "common rights" of the Irish population, they continuing on with their incessant campaign to show the population as usual in Ireland who was really running Ireland under the British Imperial "Immoral Union," while making further "great numbers" of substantial "arrests," expecting those who were among their numerous Irish "prisoners" although they may be "innocent," to come "forward" and leave the other Irishmen there to their fate, but much to their despair, the "innocent" Irish did not, and this further aggravated the "unpopular position" the British Imperial Government already held within the population of Ireland and also now in the rest of the "World" who were looking on at this never - ending ongoing tragedy.

May: Dennis Mac Cullough, the "President" of the I.R.B. / Irish Republican Brotherhood Supreme Council, had also supported the 1916 Irish Easter Uprising, and he too was "imprisoned" along with the old Labor supporter William O Brien, Sean O Kelly, Ernest Blythe, Richard Mulcahy and Sean Russell, while Liam Mellowes, who had since returned to Ireland from "America," to command the Irish Volunteers in the west of Ireland, was able to once again slip away and "escape" back to America. Eamonn de Valera, who had been an Irish Volunteer Brigade commander in the Dublin Brigades, was now sent to "Pentonville Jail" also in England, and as he was "American" born Joseph Mac Garritty, from the Clann na Gael / The Organization in America, did everything he could on his behalf there to ensure that he was not among those that were "executed." Edmund Duggan, who was a supporter of the "political" Sinn Fein Party, was also "arrested," while Tomas Derrig, who they could find nothing against, was "deported" out of Ireland by the British Imperial Coalition's Dublin Castle authorities. The "Irish National Aid Association," was now set up to assist the Irish families of those who were either "killed," or "imprisoned," and over time two thirds of those who had been previously imprisoned had to be finally released by the British Coalition Government due to a lack of any sought of "evidence" against them. The 650 Irishmen, who were to be still left "behind" in the British prisons, would also tell the British Coalition Government authorities "nothing," so in desperation they then tried to "force" them to join the British Imperial Military Forces, for if they refused to join, they were then "imprisoned" for up to 2 years, while pnother section of 122 Irish prisoners, who the British Imperial Coalition Government considered were the actual "leaders" of the 1916 Irish Easter Uprising, were kept in the "Dartmoor Prison" and "Portland Prison" in England, with another 18 sentenced to further "hard labour. The publicity and exposure to all of this "ongoing" turmoil allowed many more people throughout the whole "World," to become more "aware" of what was really going on in Ireland, and they in turn were becoming more "upset" by the continuing "harsh" treatment being handed out to the general population also in Ireland. One of these was Robert Childers - Barton, who had been previously a British Military Army officer himself and who was also a Land Lord in Ireland, who had resigned his commission, and joined the I.R.B. / Irish Republican Brotherhood, and he now also became a great "supporter" of the cause for Irish Independence / Irish Freedom.

May 16th: David Lloyd - George a Welshman who was the British "Home Minister" at this time, initiated "negotiations" to try and resolve the British Imperial Government's problems with Ireland, which was as usual to go on for another 2 years, and achieve "nothing," as the actual survivors of the 1916 Irish Uprising were to take "no part" in these discussions, as it was really they, not John Redmond the "leader" of the declining Irish Parliamentary Party, who were now becoming the "dominant factor" in the "politics" of Ireland. Herbert Asquith, the British Imperial Coalition Prime Minister and his Cabinet, were by now finally aware that Irish Affairs needed a vast "new approach," if they were ever going to placate public opinion in America, so he made a trip to Ireland personally, to try and re - establish "goodwill" with the population of Ireland, and regain the confidence in his own Imperial Coalition Government, but like so many others before him he had left his run "too late. "

May 29th: David Lloyd - George, as a member of Herbert Asquith's British Coalition Cabinet, wanted the 3rd Irish Home Rule Act implemented "before" the War with Germany came to an "end," and he wrote to the "Official Unionist" leader, Edward Carson informing him of his opinion as to the 6 Counties of Ireland to be "artificially partitioned" from the 9 Counties of Ireland in the Ulster Province, by the British Imperial Government suggesting that these 6 Counties of Ireland were to be known to the British Imperial Government as Northern Ireland, when eventually "separated" for the retention of the Ascendancy in Ireland, as the Ascendancy had considered the other 3 Counties of Ireland had "too many Catholic Irish" in them to gain "complete control" over the Ulster Province to continue on with the Ascendancy. They would not be able to gain "complete control" there, if all of the Catholic Irish in Ulster were to be included in their plans, so David Lloyd - George informed him that at the "end" of the stipulated Provisional period of 6 years, after the British Imperial Government's "artificial partition"of Ireland was to occur, they would "not" have to merge back into Ireland," whether the majority of the population in Ireland "willed" it or not" as he wanted him to pass the British Coalition Government's decision onto William Craig the other Ascendancy hard - line Unionist leader there in Ulster Province. The British Imperial Coalition Government's intention that Co. Antrim, Co. Armagh, Co. Derry, Co. Down, Co. Fermanagh and Co. Tyrone were to be "left out" of the "whole" of Ireland for 6 years, was then accepted by Edward Carson the "Official Unionist" leader in Ulster Province, and also by John Redmond the "leader" of the declining Irish Parliamentary Party, who had no idea by now of what was really "going on" in Ireland, as he was well "out of touch" with the real feelings of the general population in Ireland itself. John Redmond, had expected that the exclusion of the 6 Counties in the Ulster Province from the 9 Counties there in the Uster Province, would only be "temporary," while on the other hand, Edward Carson now expected it to be "permanent," so eventually their negotiations came to "nothing," but John Redmond's standing in Ireland as a leader was to continue to be "depleted" further for being willing "to accept" the "artificial partition" of Ireland, and therefore of its people.
