271 AD Tetricus was defeated in the Battle of Chalons and the Gallic Empire was brought to an end.

275 AD Aurelian was murdered and Tacitus became the new Roman Emperor. Carausius an Irishman was appointed the Roman commander in Gaul by Diocletian and took with him some of the Scottii / Irish warriors who were by then in Roman service.

276 AD Probus became the new Roman Emperor.

277 AD Probus expelled the Teutonic Germanic Alamanni from Gaul.

282 AD Probus was murdered and Carus became the new Roman Emperor.

283 AD Carinus and Numerian become the new joint Roman Emperors who were 2 sons of Carus.

284 AD Diocletian became the new Roman Emperor. 

286 AD Diocletian chose Maximian to rule with him as the joint Roman Emperors.
