William Philip Allen also from this family who was born in 1848 AD had a non - Catholic father and Catholic mother and he became a Fenian and was involved in the Manchester Rescue of Colonel Kelly on 18/09/ 1867 with 25 others and Colonel Kelly escaped, but Sgt. Brett was killed. Along with Condon, Maguire, O Brien and Larkin he was sentenced to death, Maguire was pardoned, Condon, an American was given respite, but on 23rd November, 1867 Allen, O Brien and Larkin were executed and interred in Manchester Prison where they became the Manchester Martyrs and although they were interred in Manchester Prison eventually their remains were brought back to Ireland and interred at Glasnevin Cemetery were they are all together in the one grave.

Mac Allen. Gaelic Irish / Mac Alain - ailin / little rock - almhaine / stone. A Sept / Family branch, of the Campbells in Scotland, who were originally of Irish descent from Diarmuid O Duibhne, which see, and they arrived back into Ireland in the 15th Century AD as galloglasses / mercenaries to the Heremonian Dal Cuinn "northern" Ui Niaill Cenel Conaill O Donnells. Also used also as a synonym for Mac Callion, which see, in Co. Donegal and Co. Derry in Northern Ulster. 

 

Mac Allen. Anglo Norman Bretons. Derived from alan / alemannus (all men).

 

Allen. English origins derived from a Welsh saint.
