A Heremonian Ui Cobhthaigh Dal Cuinn "northern" Ui Niaill Sept / Family branch, directly descended from 91.Eogan the 1st King of Ailech in the Ulster Province, who was one of the 8 sons of *90.Niall - of the Nine Hostages the 126th King of Tara / Ireland in the late 4th Century AD the direct male line ancestor of the "southern and northern" Ui Niaill Septs. With 2 of his brothers, 91.Conall Gulban, and 91.Enda they gained territory in the north - west of Ireland in the north of the Ulster Province and established the "northern" Ui Niaill kingdom of Ailech there based on the peninsula at Inishowen (The Island of 91.Eogain) between Loch Swilly and Loch Foyle. In 442 AD St. Patrick converted him and called him, "The lion Eogan mheic Niall." In 465 AD he died of grief over the then recent death of his brother, 91.Conall Gulban, and was buried at Eskaheen.
