BODY - ODOUR / Also see Constipation - Cause: Usually comes from emanations of the Apocrine Sweat Glands mostly located under arm that after Puberty starts secreting a milky ooze that has no aroma and within 6 hours Bacteria begin to colonise if not washed off - Men have bigger Glands then Women - Can also be caused by Chronic Constipation, Poor Hygiene Diabetes or Liver Disease, Parasites & Zinc Deficiency. External cleansing required and Internal cleansing required. Drink 1 - 2 Litres of pure water a day and Exercise and eat natural Food. Deodorant: Use Lemon Juice or Apple Cider Vinegar or Herbal Toner - see under Therapies. Herbs: Apple Cider Vinegar, Baking Soda & Corn Starch, Bay, Coriander, Ginger, Liquorice, Stinging Nettle, Thyme, Tonic Tea, Turnip or Daikon Radish Juice & Vegetables containing Zinc. Coriander & Liquorice: both contain 20 Anti - Bacterial compounds, Oregano & Rosemary have 19, Ginger 17, Nutmeg 15, Cinnamon & Cumin 11, & Bay 10. Liquorice also contains up to 33 % Bactericidal compounds, Thyme 21.3 %, Oregano 8.8%, Rosemary 4.8 %, Coriander up to 2.2 % and Fennel 1.5%. These could be Powdered and rubbed under the under arms but a Tea would be better. Tea: make a strong Tea of the herb or herbs to suite and soak a cloth in it and apply as a Compress for a few minutes. Add plenty of Sage, or they could be used in a bath by placing in a cloth and run hot water over it. Essential Oil: could also be used by diluting a drop or two in a tablespoon of Vegetable Oil to massage the under arm area. N.B: Do no ingest as it can be Toxic. Anti - Perspirant Sage Tincture: steep 1/2 cup of dried, powdered Sage in 1 1/4 cups of Vodka and allow to age for 2 weeks and shake twice a day then strain the herb out and store in a clean bottle. Apply 3 - 4 times a day or sip as a Sage Liqueur. N.B: Alcohol can dry the Skin so discontinue if it irritates. Turnip or Daikon Radish Juice: will not prevent Sweating but will clear odour for up to 10 hours. Vegetables containing Zinc: The Zinc is removed during processing foods but whole foods still contain good amounts including, Asparagus, Collard Greens, Brussels Sprouts, Cucumbers, Endives, Parsley, Prunes, Spinach (most) & String Beans.
BONE DISEASE - Foot - Horses; Causes: Poor Confirmation, Genetics, Imbalances in other Body Systems, Incorrect Feeding, Mineral Deficiency, Muscular Problems & Poor Shoeing.
BOILS - Apply a cube of Ice in a clean cloth for 2 hours then apply a hot Compress, repeat for 24 hours until the Boil opens. Use hot or Fresh Potato, Cabbage or Slippery Elm Poultices daily until Boil ripens. Eat natural Foods & drink Vegetable Juices. Herbs: Chamomile & Calendula Teas mixed with Fuller's Earth will ripen, or use a Comfrey, Fenugreek or Purslane Poultice. Dress with Brassica Cream - see Therapies. Internally: Take Echinacea, Stinging Nettle, Parsley or Tonic Tea.
BOTS - Horses: Bots lay their eggs on the Neck, Legs, & Shoulder and when the eggs are swallowed they grow in the Stomach to at least a centimetre in length. Can occupy up to 2/3 of the Stomach and at maturity pass out and hatch into more Flies and begin the Cycle again. Treatment: Soak a rag in Kerosene and rub onto the eggs or cut off the eggs with scissors and burn. Increase Apple Cider Vinegar in the feed to ½ x Cup daily and also ensure enough Sulphur daily.

BOWEL - POLYPS - Polyposis .Cause: Benign growths that develop on the Colon Wall that are mainly Familial and if not attended to can form an Adenoma and become Cancerous. Diet must be high in Fibre and low in Animal Fat. Vegetables containing Beta - Carotene assists to prevent Polyps becoming Cancerous. Vitamin C reduces or eliminates Bowel Polyps. Formula: Vitamin C, Beta - Carotene, Anti - Oxidants.
BOWEL - IRRITABLE - See Irritable Bowel Syndrome & Colitis.
BREAKDOWN - Horses: Mostly caused by abnormal Bone failures under normal circumstances such as the Cannon, Fetlocks, Humerus & Sesamoid. The severest is the Flexor Tendon at the back of the Leg from the Knee to the Pastern. Prior warning is heat in the Tendon or Swelling. Stop working the Horse and turn out for 18 months, with a feed a day with Minerals in it. Avoid Drugs that weaken Bone, feed natural food, spell early and treat with herbs to suite all Muscular - Skeletal Conditions. Bone, Ligaments & Tendons respond to Concussive Stress by growing denser as the Bone constantly grows & remodels and it must be strengthened along with the Ligaments & Tendons for a Horse to remain sound & fit. Periods of work on hard surfaces accomplish this as soft surfaces have the opposite effect. Treatment: Walk 20 - 30 minutes a day for a week on firm, hard, level surfaces going in a straight or slightly curved line only. No circles and only short breaks. The 2nd week begin Trotting for 5 minutes at a time on firm, hard, level surfaces and 5 minutes Walking in a straight or slightly curved line - No circles. The 3rd week Give long, slow work for 30 minutes with one day off keeping the Circles to more then 20 metres diameter. For the next 4 - 6 weeks work as previously but increase work from 30 minutes to 1 hour including faster work in short 5 minute periods and keep the Circles over 20 metres. If there is any sign of heat, soreness or swelling use cold hosing or ice packs and allow 3 - 4 days off and the recommence the same work. If a longer time off is needed then return to the earlier work regimes and use herbs to suite the Condition to ensure tough Bone, Ligaments & Tendons.
BREAKING OUT - Horses: Caused by overfeeding with small spots sometimes appearing around the Shoulders and the Saddle area. Even excessive amounts of Seaweed, Mineral &Vitamin additives can cause it - If so, stop using.
BREAST - LUMPS: are often Swollen Glands, which disappear gradually. Breasts - Swollen: Use hot Shepherd's Purse Poultice or a Fresh Potato Poultice, a Comfrey Poultice or a Compress of Fresh Marjoram Juice applied every 2 hours. If the Lumps persist seek professional Medical attention. Inflamed: Apply a Cabbage Poultice or an Ice Pack. Mastitis: with a Phytolacca or Purslane Poultice or Phytolacca Ointment. Nipples - Sore: with a Carrot Poultice or Lanolin.
BREAST - ENLARGEMENT: Herbs: Ground Cumin, Fenugreek Seeds, Fennel, Saw Palmetto & Wild Yam. Ground Cumin: Could increase the number of Mammary Cells - use in cooking. Fenugreek Seeds & Sprouts: contain Diosgenin used to create Oestrogen that is involved in the growth of Breast Cells and contributes to water retention. Plant Oestrogen - Phytoestrogen such as that from Fenugreek does not lead to uncomfortable Breast fullness. Powdered Fenugreek is made by grinding the seeds or sprouts in a blender and then add a dash of Vegetable Oil and apply as a Paste. Fennel: is another Oestrogenic herb used to promote Milk production. N.B: Do not use Fennel Oil as in Pregnant women it can cause miscarriage and in doses larger then a teaspoon it can be Toxic. Saw Palmetto: originally used to promote Breast enlargement. Capsules: 1 - 2 gm or herbal Alcohol Extracts are used by following the directions on the labels. Wild Yam: To make a Salve remove the outer bark of the Root and reduce the inner root bark to a Paste in a blender.
BREAST FEEDING - Herbs: Alfalfa, Anise, Chaste Berry, Dandelion, Dill, Echinacea, Garlic, Fennel, Fenugreek, Jasmine, Parsley, Peanut, Sesame & Squaw Vine. Alfala: is Oestrogenic and can be eaten as Sprouts in Salads - N.B: Do not use if subject to Lupus or a family history of Lupus. Anise: promotes Lactation as does Caraway, Fennel & Lemon Grass and improves the flavour of Fenugreek. Chaste Berry: to enhance Lactation. Dandelion: Boil an ounce of minced Dandelion Root in 2 - 3 cups of water until only half of the liquid remains and use Compresses of the resulting brew to treat Mastitis. Dill: to stimulate Milk production. Echinacea: used to treat Mastitis & Nipple - Fissures as it is an Anti - Biotic & Immune System booster. Blend a dropper full of the Tincture in Juice along with a few Cloves of Garlic and drink 3 - 4 times a day. Fennel: has weaker properties similar to Oestrogen and is used to promote Lactation. Dosage: 2 teaspoons of the crushed Seeds per cup of boiling water and drink 3 times a day. N.B: Do not use Fennel Oil as in Pregnant women it can cause Miscarriage and in doses larger then a teaspoon it can be Toxic. Fenugreek Seed: contains Phytoestrogens that are similar to Oestrogen including Diosgenin that increases Milk flow. Garlic: is used to treat Mastitis with a dropper full of Echinacea Tincture as an Anti - Biotic, 3 Cloves of Raw Garlic and 4 - 6 ounces of Carrot Juice in a blender and drink every 2 hours. Eat a few Cloves of Garlic within an hour before Nursing and the babies will attach more readily, stay there longer, suck more and drink more Milk. Jasmine: used to suppress Milk flow by applying 3 crushed fresh Jasmine Flowers to the Breasts. Parsley: eat chopped fresh Parsley to treat Breast tenderness as it flushes excess water from the Body. Used also to reduce Milk production prior to Weaning as does Mint & Sage. Peanut: contains several Oestrogenic compounds like so many other Legumes that may increase Milk production. Sesame Seeds: roast, grind and eat them with a small amount of Salt to increase Milk flow. Squaw Vine: Used to treat Nipple - Soreness resulting from Nursing. Boil 2 ounces of the herb in a pint of water and add a pint of heavy Cream, then boil the mixture down until it has the consistency of a Salve, cool and apply after each feeding.
BREATH - BAD: Halitosis / Also see Constipation - Cause: Catarrhal & Lung Conditions or a poorly working Digestive System or Dental - Teeth Caries - Bacteria in the Mouth. During the day Oxygen rich Saliva acts as a natural Mouth Wash but at night this slows and the Mouth becomes less Acidic and more Alkaline encouraging the growth of Bacteria. N.B: If it does not clear up see a doctor as it can also be caused by Cirrhosis of the Liver, Diabetes, Kidney - Failure & Cancer in the Upper Respiratory Tract among other Conditions. Take 1 teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar or half a Lemon in water with Honey before each meal. Juices: Pineapple blended with Celery, Dandelion, Mallow & Parsley - take 2 Cups a day. Bitters, before each meal. Chew Anise, Dill or Fennel Seeds, Parsley, Mint or drink Peppermint Tea to freshen. Formula: Acidophilus - Yoghurt once a day, Slippery Elm Powder, Chlorophyll, Peppermint Oil 1 - 2 drops twice a day, Peppermint Tea - 4 cups a day. Herbs: Acidophilus - Yoghurt, Anise, Basil, Bergamot, Bitters, Cardamon, Cloves, Coriander, Dill, Eucalyptus, Parsley, Peppermint Tea, Sage, Slippery Elm & Wild Bergamot.
BRITTLE FEET: Horses: - Poor Horn - Slow Growth - Treat as for Cracks, which see.
BROKEN BLOOD VESSELS - Horses: Bleeding from the Nostrils (Lungs or Membranes) If Bute is used give 1 x Tablespoon a day of Sodium Ascorbate in the feed. If the Blood Vessels are ruptured give Intravenously an Injection of at least 25cc of Sodium Ascorbate (No danger of an Overdose) - continue for a week after it clears up and add extra Vitamin E.
BRONCHITIS - Acute - Chronic: Causes: Either by Bacteria, Viral or a Chronic Irritant such as Cigarette Smoke or exposure to chemicals including Formaldehyde that gives cars and home furnishings a new smell. Symptoms: Head - Cold, slight Fever & Muscle Aches that may radiate to the Back with an unproductive Cough at first mainly at night. Inflammation - Infection of the gateway to the Lungs, the Bronchial Tubes, and this creates exhausting bouts of Coughing due to Chest - Congestion that are necessary to clear choking obstructions of Mucus - thick sticky yellowish Phlegm with difficulty in Breathing. Herbs: Catmint - Catnip, Couch Grass, Echinacea, Elder Flowers, English Plantain, Eucalyptus, Garlic, Ginger, Horehound, Hyssop, Ivy, Knotgrass, Marshmallow, Mullein, Pleurisy Root, Primrose, Sage, Soapwort, Stinging Nettle, Vitamin C, Whole Grains, Nuts and other foods containing Magnesium, Thyme & White Willow Bark. English Plantain: used as a Cough Suppressant and has Anti - Bacterial action. Dosage: 1 teaspoon of the dried herb per cup of boiling water and steep until cool. Herbal Formula: use equal parts of Elecampane, Horehound & Mullein, or Cayenne, Chickweed, Horehound, Liquorice, Mullein, Plantain, Pleurisy Root, Saw Palmetto Berries, Seaweed, Slippery Elm Bark & Wild Cherry Bark. Use Echinacea also to boost the Immune System. Equal parts of Elder Flowers, Ginger, Horehound, Hyssop & Sage - take 1 Cup 3 times a day. Also use Winter Blend, Fennel, Fenugreek, Thyme & Violets. Herbal Snack: Mix to suite the taste Chilli Peppers, Garlic, Ginger, Horseradish or Wasabi, Mustard & Turmeric. (This very hot and will clear the Sinuses as well as the Bronchial Tubes.) Spread a little on Crackers or Bread or make a Tea out of any or all. Plants containing Vitamin C: such as Citrus Fruits, Chilli Peppers & Red & Green Peppers will assist with recovery. Vaporiser: used at night to lessen the Cough and loosen the Phlegm with a mix of Wintergreen Oil, Camphor, Menthol & Eucalyptus mixed in equal parts. N.B: Do not go out in Cold Air after using. Other herbs to loosen Mucus build up and soothe Inflamed Mucous Membranes are Euphorbia, Liquorice Root & Pleurisy Root. Vitamin C, Echinacea & Garlic will assist to control Infection. To relieve Congestion use a cold Compress on the Chest and wrap the Legs in a warm Blanket with hot water bottles between the Legs and at the Feet. Apply an Onion or Linseed & Charcoal Poultice on the Chest. Eat warming foods like Onions, Garlic & Chillies. Have a warm Epsom Salts bath for at least an hour and add a few drops of Eucalyptus or Peppermint Oil to the water or use as a Steam Inhalation. Avoid Smoking or Smog. Avoid Mucus producing foods such as Milk products and Refined foods such as Sugar. Add Cod Liver Oil or Fenugreek Sprouts to the diet to strengthen the Mucous Lining. Apply wet sheet treatment at the start of the Fever or apply wet clothes to the Head sprinkled with Lavender water or Mint. Sponge the Body down night & morning with this water. No solid - food until Temperature is back to normal. Warmth and rest in bed until the Temperature has subsided in a quite atmosphere. Use subdued lighting and ensure that someone be on hand as much as possible. Use plenty of Fresh Lemon drinks. Compound Infusions: Aniseed - 1 part, Eucalyptus - 2, Irish Moss - 4, Liquorice - 8, Marsh Mallow - 8, Wild Cherry - 2. Formula: Vitamin C, Cod Liver Oil - 5ml a day, Mullein, Horehound, Pleurisy Root, Liquorice Root, Echinacea, Garlic, Iron Phosphate, Potassium Chloride. Formula: 30 mg. Ammoniacum, 10 mg. Cayenne, 0.2 mg. Capsicine BPC'23, 60 mg. Lobelia and 30 mg. of the aqueous extractive from Squill. (For Adults Only.)
BRUISES - Cause: Blood leaking out of Capillaries just under the Skin usually after an Injury and appearing to be Black or Blue. Can also be caused by Dietary Deficiencies especially Vitamin C & Bio - Flavonoids that are required to strengthen Capillaries. Haemophilia & Leukaemia can also be another cause. Apply Ice and elevate or apply a Potato Poultice. Pressure Bandages under padding may also be used but these must be applied correctly. Use Apple Cider Vinegar to reduce swellings from Sprain or Bruises. A cotton wool pad with gauze on each side soaked in Apple Cider Vinegar and bandaged lightly onto the affected part. Cover with plastic film between the pad and the bandage (Not too tight) and rest until O.K. Herbs: Arnica, Bay, Comfrey, Grape Seeds, Parsley, Potato, St. John's Wort & Witch Hazel. Big - Knees: which see - Immediately use Witch Hazel to draw the Fluid back into the Tissues. Bruised - Soles: which see under Feet. Capped - Hocks: Immediately use Witch Hazel to draw the Fluid back into the Tissues. Corns: See under Feet. Bruising - Severe: Homopathic Arnica 6C should be given orally @ 1ml per hour for the first 3 hours, then 3 times a day and twice daily for a longer term. N.B: (This is not the normal Arnica) Apply Ice Packs or cold hose for local Bruising. Skin - Broken: Use Witch Hazel Ointment, with Calendula Ointment, which prevents Infection or mix both together. Stone - Bruise: Apply Arnica Ointment for a few days or more if required. If the Skin is not Broken: Apply Arnica Ointment for a few days or more if required to heal at a quick rate. N.B: Do not use Arnica if the Skin is Broken.) Formula: Bioflavonoids & Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Zinc. External: Comfrey Ointment rubbed on twice daily provided there is no infection.
BUNIONS - Also see Corns - Symptom: Deformity of the Big Toe with a Bunion being the Bump at the base that protrudes outward forcing the balance of the toe to point inward even to overlapping the other Toes. Cause: sometimes due to hereditary weakness known as Hallux - Big Toe - valgus - bowed - In Women usually the result of trying to force the foot into a pointy - toed high heeled shoe and the Bunion rubs on the shoes causing a thick callus. Wear shoes with roomy Toe area or cushioned shoe pads. Soften with a slice of fresh Lemon. Leave on overnight and remove in the morning. Use a hot Potato Poultice each night. Wear comfortable shoes and go Barefoot whenever possible. Bathe the Feet in hot Epsom Salt Foot Bath. Herbs: Arnica, Calendula, Chamomile, Clove Oil, Ginger, Pineapple, Red Pepper, Sundew, Turmeric & Willow.
BURNS - Symptoms:1st degree Burns - Superficial injure only the outermost layer of Skin and are usually red in colour. 2nd degree Burns penetrate deeper into the Skin such as Blisters. 3rd Degree Burns are often not painful as the injury penetrates so deeply that it destroys the Nerves that transmit the pain signals to the Brain and need specialist care. These may look black and charred or white. Cause: Boiling Water, Chemicals, Fire, Friction, Steam & Sun. Treatment: Pour cold water immediately on the Burn or apply an Ice Pack to stop it from spreading and reduce the pain. Running water is best and should be run over it for at least 10 minutes. Apply a saturated Solution of Epsom Salts as a Compress and seal the Burn from the Air with Plastic. Or use a Potato Poultice, Honey or apply the Inner Side of a Banana Peel. Or use Comfrey Paste for all Burns or fresh Aloe Vera Gel, Calendula, Comfrey, Hypericum Ointment, or Oil. Formula: Vitamin E, Vitamin C & Flavonoids, Zinc. Externally: Aloe Vera Gel & Vitamin E Cream. Herbs: Aloe Vera Gel, Calendula, Comfrey Paste, Echinacea, Garlic, Gotu Kola, Hypericum Oil & Ointment, Lavender Oil, Plantain & St. John's Wort.
BURSITIS / Housemaid's Knee / Tennis Elbow. Symptoms: A flabby, fluid swelling that is tender & painful usually to a Joint and usually the Elbow or Knee due to Inflammation of the Bursae, the fluid filled sacs that lubricate the Joints in places where Muscles & Tendons meet the Bone, causing pain in and around the Joints. Cause: Overusing the Joint or Injury. If caused by a hard knock or accident use a Potato Poultice on the Tissues. If caused by a Rheumatic development treat as Rheumatism, which see. Can also use a Comfrey Poultice. Rest the Joint and use Ice Packs for relief. Herbs: Comfrey, Echinacea, Ginger, Horsetail, Liquorice, Pineapple, Purslane, Stinging Nettle, Turmeric & Willow Bark.
