DIET: - Herbs: Chives,

 

DIGESTION: Symptoms: Stress also effects the Digestive System due to the "fight or flight" activity of the sympathetic Nervous System that tends to suppress the Digestive process creating Diarrhoea, Indigestion, Irritable Bowel, Loss of Appetite and Wind. Herbs: Caraway, Chamomile, Cramp Bark, Cumin, Dandelion, Dill, Fennel, Greater Celandine, Hops, Lemon Balm, Liquorice and Peppermint. NB: Hops are a Sedative and should only be added at night before retiring and avoid Hops if you are Depressed or lacking in Sexual Energy. . Tea: Combine Chamomile, Lemon Balm and Hops or select a combination to suite you. Chamomile and Lemon Balm can be taken anytime to suite. Fresh Lemon Balm makes a delicious Tea and calms the Stomach. To ease Constipation: Make a Decoction of Cramp Bark and Fennel - as stated below to release Wind - but also add 1 teaspoon of Liquorice Root. N.B: Avoid Liquorice if you have High Blood Pressure. If it is a recurrent Condition then also add 1 x teaspoon of Linseeds daily to the breakfast cereal. To calm the Nervous System: Put 1 x teaspoon of dried Chamomile Flowers, Lemon Balm and Peppermint into a small pot and fill with boiling water, steep for 10 minutes, strain and drink 3 x times a day after meals. Hops can be added to settle the Stomach in the Evening. To relieve Wind: In a small saucepan boil 1 x teaspoon each of Cramp Bark and Fennel Seeds in 1 1/4 cups of water and add 1 x teaspoon of dried Peppermint, steep for 10 minutes, strain and drink.

 

DIGESTIVE TRACT: Herbs: Linseeds, Psyllium Husks and Slippery Elm Powder. 

 

DIPHTHERIA: Symptoms: A dangerous Fever located in the Mucous Membranes of the Throat that is Highly Infectious.  

 

DISSEMINATED SCLEROSIS: Symptoms: A Degenerative deterioration of the Nerves of the Brain and Spinal Cord that has no known cure.  

 

DIVERTICULITIS / Irritable Bowel Syndrome / Also see Constipation. *In Western Culture half of the population over 60 years of age have non - inflamed painless Diverticula / Small Pouches lined by Mucous Membrane in the Walls of the Large Intestine with 10% only developing Inflammation / Diviculitus.

Cause: A low Fibre Diet produces Inflammation of the Diverticula / Intestinal Tract especially the Colon due to contraction of the Large Bowel increasing the pressure inside internally, when the Mucous Membrane is forced through the Muscular Walls of the Intestine at points of weakness of the Blood Vessels there. This is usually at the Sigmoid Flexure of the Colon in the lower left hand side of the Abdominal Cavity.

Symptoms: Cramping Pains and Diarrhoea.

Treatment: A High Fire diet is a must, especially Whole Grain Cereals, Fruit and Vegetables. Do not skip meals, especially breakfast. Avoid Dairy Products, Fried Foods, Nuts, Processed Foods, Red Meats, Seeds, Spices and Sweets. Stretching Exercises are good and massage of the painful Side. Drink plenty of Water to soften the stools and relieve the pain. Take 1 x teaspoon of Slippery Elm Powder before each meal. Drink Chamomile and Peppermint Tea, alternatively, before meals. Also use Bitters, Comfrey and Mallow. Herbs: Chamomile, Flax / Linseeds, Psyllium Husks, Prunes, Slippery Elm Powder, Wheat Bran and Wild Yam / Sweet Potato. Formula: 2 parts Wild Yam, 1 part Valerian to relax the Digestive Tract and sooth it, 1 part Black Haw as an Anti - Spasmodic, and 1 part Peppermint as an Anti - Inflammatory and Anti - Spasmodic. Use a couple of Tablespoons of the mixture, brewed in a quart of Water. Compound Infusion: Marsh Mallow Root - 4 parts, Fenugreek Seed - 8, Slippery Elm Bark - 8, Ginger - 1. Formula: Psyllium Husks 1 x Tablespoon in Orange Juice a day, Slippery Elm Powder - 600mg after meals 3 times a day, Acidophilus and Peppermint Oil - 0.2ml a day. High Fibre Diet mainly Vegetables, use Low Animal Fat  and Red Meat, have 5 meals a day and drink 6 - 8 glasses of Water a day. 

 

DIZZINESS: Symptoms: Unsteadiness. Cause: for prolonged or recurring bouts see a Physician as it can be caused by Inner Ear Infections, Cardiac Arrhythmia, High Blood Pressure etc. Treatment: Rest in a reclining position and use a cold Compress over the Eyes, across the Throat and a hot Foot Bath. Herbs: Assorted Herbs, Celery Seed, Ginger, Ginkgo, Hawthorn, Lavender, Lemon Balm, Pumpkin Seeds andYarrow. Assorted Herbal Tea: Combine 4 teaspoons of Ginger, with dashes of ground Pumpkin Seeds, Celery Seeds, Chamomile Flowers, Fennel, Orange Rind, Peppermint and Spearmint and steep for 15 minutes.

 

DROPSY: Cause: Several different Conditions, Symptoms:  Accumulation of Fluid in the Body usually at first in the Ankles.

DRY MOUTH / Xerostoma. Symptoms: Lack of Salivation in the Mouth / Oral Dryness therefore allowing the Bacteria to build up and cause Gum Disease, Mouth Infections and Tooth Decay. Causes: Public speaking, Aging, Medications and also Sjogren's Syndrome often associated with Rheumatoid Arthritis that also causes Dry Eyes thought to be an Auto - Immune disorder. Treatment: Sip Water frequently especially when eating or speaking. Avoid Coffee and Sugary beverages. Avoid Alcohol, Salty Foods and Tobacco. Herbs: Echinacea, Evening Primrose, Multiflora Rose, Red Pepper and Yohimbe.

DUODENAL: Symptoms: Ulceration in the Duodenum or other places in the Digestive System giving rise to different names to suite. All cause severe Flatulence and Indigestion creating Debility and Depression, but can respond quickly to the right treatment. Do not eat - Fruit, Fried Foods, Meats - Grilled or Roasted, Nuts, Salads, Sausages, Soups and Stews and drink a glass of tepid Water every two hours. Rest for at least half an hour after each meal and drink plenty of Water. Compound Infusions: Comfrey - 4 parts, Marshmallow - 8, Slippery Elm - 8, Golden Seal - 2, Poke Root - 1. Also used for Peptic Ulcers. Formula: (1) 0.3 Aneurin Hyd., 45mg. Kelp / Seaweed, 15mg. Hops, 45mg. Motherwort, 2.5mg. Nicotinamide, 0.5mg. Riboflavin and the aqueous extractive from 45mg. Lime Tree, 45mg. Passiflora, 45mg. Skullcap, 45mg. Vervain, 45mg. Wild Lettuce. Formula: (2) 0.001ml. Oil of Cinnamon, 0.001ml. Oil Clove, 0.001 ml. Oil of Peppermint & 400mg. Slippery Elm Powder.

 

DYSENTRY: Symptoms: A Bacillary Disease that creates severe Diarrhoea and the passing of Blood. Herbs: Barberry,
