WATER Retention  / see Oedema

 

WARTS / Verrucas: N.B: Those with a suppressed Immune System are more susceptible.

Cause: Benign Skin Tumours produced by 35 different Viruses of the Papillomavirus Family that are very common and usually harmless but unsightly and irritating causing hypertrophy / damage to the Papillae of the Skin. More common in Children due to an initial lack of Immunity to the Viruses. They appear more thickly on the Knuckles, inside of the Knees and the Face where the Skin can be more easily irritated. Can be spread where there are numbers of Children involved in Bare Foot activities. Can be transmitted appearing anywhere on the Body especially on the Hands but Plantar Warts only show up on the Feet and can be more painful due to the pressure on them during walking. Older Adults suffer Senile Warts and even Soft Warts on the Eyelids, Ears & Neck caused by Hydrocarbons.

Symptoms: A bundle of fibres on the Skin surface are capped by the horny cells that cover the cuticle as they grow outwards and upwards with the mass of the Wart surrounded by a ring of thickened cuticle. The colour of the Wart is usually darker than that of the normal Skin due to dirt being lodged in the minute crevices between the fibres.

Treatment: Liquid Nitrogen or Carbon Dioxide Snow and Plantar Warts may have be surgically removed. Place the inside of a Banana Skin directly on the Wart and cover with a Bandaid and replace daily. Use the Sap of the Dandelion, Calendula, Fig or Petty Spurge or Petty Spurge Ointment. Eat good wholesome food and have variety to build up resistance. Burning, Filing, Dandelion and Thistle Milk are other treatments. Anxiety also seems to be a factor in their spread, so relax.

Herbs: N.B: If any of the substances contained in the herbs irritates the Skin around the Wart discontinue using. Banana: use on Warts by scraping the inner white part and rub it into a Wart 2 - 4 times a day for 5 - 7 days. Basil: is an Aromatic herb that also contains many Anti - Viral compounds and its crushed Leaves can be rubbed directly onto the Wart or apply and cover over with a bandage and change and reapply for 5 - 7 days. Birch Bark: used to treat Warts as it contains 2 compounds, Betulin & Betulinic Acid that have Anti - Viral activity and also contains Salicylates to treat Warts. Tape a piece of moistened Bark directly to the Wart or brew a Tea by adding a teaspoon or two of powdered Bark to a cup of boiling water and allow to steep for 10 minutes and drink and also rub directly on the Warts. Bloodroot: contains Skin irritant compounds, Chelerythrine & Sanguinarine plus Proteolytic Enzymes that assist to dissolve Proteins such as Wart infected Tissue. Could be available as an Ointment. Castor Bean Oil: is used for Warts by massaging the Oil directly into the Wart several times a day or put a handful of Willow Bark into the Oil and let it steep for a few days to boost the effect. Willow contains Aspirin like Salicylates, which might assist or include a few Cloves of Garlic and allow to steep to kill the Warts. Dandelion: is used to treat Warts with the milky latex that oozes out when the Leaves & Stems are torn and apply once a day for 5 - 7 days. N.B: Does not work for everyone. Echinacea: is Anti - Viral. Fig: contains a Proteolytic Enzyme, Ficin used for treating Corns and Warts with the white milk that oozes out from the Fruit and Twigs by applying once a day for 5 - 7 days. Garlic: is Anti - Viral. Greater Celandine: Celandine majus: contains some of the same compounds as Bloodroot, Chelerythrine, Sanguinarine & Proteolytic Enzymes and the Juice can inhibit the Wart Virus or even kill it. If the fresh herb is available you can apply the yellow juice directly to the Wart once or twice a day for 5 - 7 days or apply a strong Tea made from the dried herb. Milkweed: the white milky fluid is used that oozes from the plant to treat Warts by massaging a little into the Wart several times a day. Onions: is Anti - Viral. Papaya: apply the juice to the Warts from a fresh herb twice a day for 5 - 7 days. N.B: Does not work for everyone. Pineapple: is rich in Proteolytic Enzymes and can be applied by cutting a square of Peel and tape the inner side to Plantar Warts overnight and the next morning remove and soak the Foot in hot water with stubborn cases requiring several applications. Soybean: for Warts by using only plain, water boiled yellow Soybean Sprouts without Seasoning or Salt 3 times a day for 3 days. Also used for preventing Cancer and Heart Disease. Thuja: used (Externally) as an Ointment covered by a band - aid, as it can kill the Virus and the Wart will fall off, even Plantar Warts on the Feet. Willow Bark: contains abundant Salicylic Acid used for Bunions, Corns and Wart removal by taping a piece of moistened Inner Bark to the Wart and change every day for 5 - 7 days. Yellow Cedar Oil: contains Anti - Viral compounds, some of which are also found in May Apple, and is applied by painting a Tincture directly on the Warts each morning and night for several weeks. Works well on smaller Warts but not so well on large solid ones. Vitamins A, C and E: are Anti - Oxidants to assist to build up the Immune System and keep Warts at bay.  Internally: Use Garlic, Tonic Tea and Wormwood. Formula: Echinacea: 500mg 3 times a day, Garlic: 2000mg fresh a day, Thuja Ointment: applied (Externally) 3 times a day, Vitamin A: 10000 IU a day, Vitamin C: 4000mg a day, Vitamin E: 500 IU a day. 

 

WEIGHT - Over: . N.B: If you have Over weight problems associated with Diabetes consult a health practitioner.  

Cause: Overeating and a lack of Exercise with Fluid retention especially those with Glandular Conditions or under - active Thyroids and Iodine or Phosphorous deficiency may be the cause. Over - eating: Do not eat Cakes, Fat Meats, Fresh Bread, Nuts, Sugars, Sweets, and use Butter and Margarine sparingly. Do not use a crash / starvation diet as this could lead to major problems as reducing the Calorie intake below 450 a day for any long period can permanently lower Metabolism. Reduce Calorie intake to 1000 - 1500 a day by including more Fruit and Vegetables and cut back on Bread, Cakes and Fatty Meats and Animal products. Keep Carrots or Celery in the fridge to nibble on, as they are not high in Calories. Drink plenty of water also as it is an Appetite suppressant and necessity. Fluid Retention: use Corn Silk, Boldo & Blueberry. Vitamin B6 can also assist. Exercise for 30 minutes each day including walking to increase the Metabolism to speed up weight loss. Use Seaweed in the diet. 

WEIGHT - Under: Eat Biscuits, Cakes, Cheese, Cream, Eggs, Fried Bacon, Meat, Milk, Potatoes, Tomato, Vegetables and exercise daily.

 

WHITE LINE - Disease: Horses: The Wall separates at the Quarters with a cheesy substance occurring in the Hoof Wall. Treat as for Seedy Toe. If not treated it may have dire consequences with large areas of the Foot eaten away with a huge risk of Infection. Special shoes and artificial hoof material may have to be used. Treatment: The Herbs suitable for Internal use are the same as for Abscesses. Also add Comfrey and Rosehips to the feed to encourage new Hoof growth and use Comfrey Oil Externally on the Bulbs, Coronet Band and Frog. N.B: Only add Comfrey to the diet after Infection has been ruled out. 

 

WHITLOW: Soak in hot water 2 - 3 times a day for 1 hour. Cover in soft Soap and leave overnight. Use 1/2 a Lemon with plenty of Salt rubbed into the Juicy part and insert the Finger for 1/2 an hour. In between treatments massage with warm Castor Oil. Internally: Cleanse the Whole System by increasing the intake of raw foods. Herbs: Garlic Milk - Use a whole Clove of Garlic chopped up and heated in 500ml of Milk then boil and bathe the Hand in it while still hot. Also use Hypericum Oil. 

WHOOPING COUGH: Symptoms: Some Fever, Watering of the Eyes and a Cough developing into attacks of Coughing and a Whooping sound while Breathing in. Apply wet sheet treatment at the start of the Fever or apply wet clothes to the Head sprinkled with Lavender Water or Mint. Sponge Body down night & morning with this water. No solid food until Temperature is back to normal. Warmth & rest in bed until Temperature has subsided in a quiet atmosphere. Use subdued lighting and be on hand as much as possible. Use plenty of fresh Lemon drinks. Herbs: Thyme: as it is suitable for easing and to clean the Mouth & Throat as a Gargle then swallow the liquid to benefit the Digestive System. (Can be combined with Sage to do this.) 

 

WIND - See also Gas: N.B: Do not use as a strong Tea if Pregnant. Thyme: as a Carminative stimulating a sluggish Digestive System assisting with food sitting in the Stomach and fermenting, producing unwanted Gases.

 

WINDSUCKING: See also Chewing Fences - as prevention is the only answer. Keep a Strap around the Neck or it will continue to fill its Stomach with air decreasing its Appetite and become unthrifty. 

WINTER BLUES: Herbs: Ginseng: assists the Body to adapt to the changing Seasons. Rosemary: improves Circulation to the Head and clears the Mind. St. John's Wort: Anti - Depressant. Wild Oats: strengthen the Nervous System. Tea: Combine 2 teaspoons of dried St. John's Wort with 1 teaspoon of dried Rosemary and add 1 cup of boiling water, steep for 10 minutes and strain and drink 3 times a day throughout Winter.

 

WORMS: Flukeworms, Hookworms, Pinworms, Roundworms, Tapeworms and Whipworms.

Symptoms: Cramps, Diarrhoea, Nausea & Vertigo. Cause: Tiny Parasites invade the Intestinal Tract and sometimes other parts of the Body and mostly effects young Children.

Herbs: Basil: Clove: active against several Parasites including Intestinal Worms by make a strong Tea or add powdered Cloves to Pineapple or Papaya Juices. Garlic: used to treat Pinworms, Roundworms, Giardia / an Amoeba - and other Parasitic infections. Dosage: Juice 3 Cloves with 4 - 6 ounces of Carrot Juice and take every 2 hours. Ginger: the tangy Root is effective against some of the most dangerous Parasites. Including the Anisakis Worm in raw Fish and anyone eating raw fish should always include Ginger in the meal. Papaya: used to treat Intestinal Parasites by swallowing a dozen of the pellet - size Seeds, which are as hot as Mustard Seeds. Pineapple: Eat nothing but Pineapple for 3 days to clear up Tapeworms as it contains the Protein digesting Enzyme, Bromelain. Pumpkin Seeds and Extracts: immobilises and assists to expel Intestinal Worms and other Parasites. To treat eat one ounce of Seeds a day while the Condition lasts and add Ginger to the diet also. Thyme: Turmeric: used to treat Worms especially Nematodes as it contains 4 compounds with Anti - Parasitic action that work together. Best to take in Curry dishes. Wormseed - Epazote: is used for Intestinal Worms in Children and pets and also relieves Gas and can be added to Bean Soup for that purpose and as a concentrated Tea. N.B: The concentrated Oil is too potent to use !! Worm Blend: Blend the Juice and pulp of Fruits well endowed with Proteolytic Enzymes, Breadfruit, Figs, Papaya & Pineapple, and spice with Cloves, Ginger and Turmeric to taste and add a little Prune Juice as a Laxative to expel the dislodged Worms. 

Vermicides and Vermifuges: Eat Foods Worms dislike such as Garlic, Salt, Raw Onions, Raw String Beans and Vinegar. 1 Cup of Chamomile Tea 3 times a day or Slippery Elm Powder - 1 Teaspoon a day for Children. Use Garlic and Wormwood for Adults. Use Shelled Pumpkin Seeds - 15 a day for Children - 30 a day for Adults and 1/2 an hour later take 1/2 Teaspoon of Castor Oil. Herbs: Aloes treats all types of Worms. Calendula: Cayenne: Fennel: Garlic treats Hookworms, Pinworms, Roundworms & Tapeworms. Knotweed: Male Fern treats Tapeworms. Mint: Rue treats all types of Worms. Red Clover may also be effective against Redworms due to its high Copper content. Stinging Nettle especially the Juice. Sage: Tansy treats all types of Worms. Thyme: Wormwood treats Roundworms & Threadworms.

Other Natural Treatments: Aniseed, Mustard, Melon, Parsley, Pumpkin Seeds and Pomegranite along with a number of Grasses and Shooting Leaves of Hedges and Trees. (Ash Twigs, Brambles, Broom Tops, Couch, Elder and Mustard.) Tympanell plus 150ml Paraffin Oil. 2 x Tablespoons Bi - Carbonate Soda, 1/2 Cup of luke warm water. N.B: Bloodworms / Redworms, Large Strongyles and Bots are the most difficult to eradicate using Herbs. Do not rely completely on Herbal Worming but use sensibly with Chemical Worming using also good management practice. Redworms: are the worst problem in Horses, but they seem to carry Roundworms without too much trouble although this is not desirable. N.B: Redworms do not often show up until it is too late. They travel from the Intestines throughout the whole Body sucking Blood, and can cause permanent Brain, Vascular or Heart damage. Take Faecal samples regularly when on grass. Drenches: are only a short - term answer, good nutrition healthy pastures and good farm practice are the long - term solution. Chemical Farming has decreased the ability of the natural fauna of the paddocks to process the manure. The resistance to internal Parasites also has been lowered due to the lack of Copper in the diet, another result of Chemical fertilisers used to grow it. Herbal Mixture: - 2 x doses a day for 3 days of liquid Wormer mixed with an equal amount of strong Molasses water. Worms are on the move every 28 days so give the day before a full Moon, the day of, and the day after. Hold the head up and syringe slowly to enable swallowing. Repeat every 28 days and check Faeces for Worm counts then worm every 2 months checking the Worm counts. Dosage: 200kg and under 5ml x 2 daily for 3 days = 30ml. 300kg / 10ml x 2 daily for 3 days = 60ml. 400 - 500 kg / 5ml x 2 daily for 3 days = 90ml. 600 - 700 kg / 20ml x 2 daily for 3 days = 120ml. Another Worm Remedy:1 x Dessertspoon of Copper Sulphate, if Worms are present, in their evening feed and  regular Faecal checks to ensure all is clear. N.B:Regular Dolomite in the feed at the same time as it is the Antidote for Copper but does not impede its efficiency. Another Herbal Worming Mix: Fennel Seeds (40gm), Garlic (30 grams) Rue (40 gm), Tansy Seeds or a mixture of both (35gm) Red Clover (30gm) Wormwood (25gm) = 200gm to worm a Horse (350 - 650kg) 14.2 + Less Then 14.2 & Ponies: weighing 300 kg - use half the amount per dose. Miniatures & Shetlands use 1/4 of the amount. Hard Fed HorsesFussy Eaters: Feed over 4 x feeds mixed in with only part of the feed with Molasses water and give the rest of the feed later. Pasture Fed: Make the dried herbs into a Tea and Drench. N.B: At the same time give 20gm of Aloes Powder stirred thoroughly into a small tin of pureed Apple Baby food, administered in a 60ml syringe. (In the same proportion.) Horse 100%, Ponies 1/2, Miniatures 1/4. Follow up 10 days later with another dose of Aloes as stated in the pureed Apple Baby food. NB: Pregnant Mares: Aloes, Rue & Wormwood should not be given as they are a Muscle Stimulants and could cause Contractions. Garlic can be given to Pregnant Mares up to a month before Foaling and a month after to ensure the Garlic taste or smell does not contaminate their Milk. Bots: Remove their Eggs daily. Herbal Repellent: 500ml Spray Pack - half water or strained Wormwood Tea - half Organic Apple Cider Vinegar, add 15 drops of Citronella, 5 drops of Pennyroyal Oil. Wash the Anus and surrounding area, especially if rubbing is occurring, as the Pinworms lay their Eggs there and cause the Itching. Manure: Remove daily from the yards and small paddocks, harrow the larger paddocks and spell. Garlic: Should be fed on a daily basis at 2 x Tablespoons freshly crushed or dried granulated for a 450 kg Horse. Every 4 weeks (check) followed by 10 days to pick up the Larvae that has hatched out. (Normally 12 weeks is sufficient with regular Faecal testing.) Herbs give the Horse's Gut a good cleaning and help move the Sand through, especially if 50% boiled Linseed together with 100% French White Millet / and or Cold Pressed Linseed Oil is also fed. Herbal Worming Mixtures are pasture friendly and do not remove Dung Beetles from the soil.
