John Curry M.D, who was born in the early 18th Century was a descendant of the Ui Corra Sept who resided in Co. Cavan, who lost their territory in the 1641 - 1652 AD War. 1689 - 1691 AD his grandfather was a cavalry officer for James 11 and was killed in the Battle of Aughrim. He had to go Rheims in France to get a degree as he was denied this as an Irish Catholic under the English Penal Laws in Ireland. He went on to found the Catholic Committee with Wyse and Daniel O Connor - the Liberator in March 1760 AD, which 70 years later finally began Irish Catholic Emancipation. He died 1780 AD leaving 2 sons who served in the Austrian Army.
