O Dornan - Irish / Ua Dornain. Used as a variant for O Durnin, which see, in the east of the Ulster Province.

 

O Dorney - Irish / Ua dTorna. A Sept / Family branch, who had their territory in Co. Kerry in the south - west of Des Mhumhain / Desmond / Southern Munster.

O Dorney - Irish / Ua Doirinne. A Sept / Family branch, who had their territory in Co. Cork in Des Mhumhain / Desmond / Southern Munster and Co. Tipperary in the north - east of Ormond / Aur Mhumhain / North Eastern Munster. Used also for O Durney, which see, in the east of Munster. See also O Torney.

O Dorohy - Irish / Ua Dorchadha - dorcha (dark). A Sept / Family branch, who had their territory at Kenmare in Co. Kerry in the south - west of Desmond / Des Mhumhain / Southern Munster where their name is unusual. Dorothy was also used as a variant, but not in Co. Kerry.

Dorragh. Used as a variant for Darragh, which see, in the west of the Ulster Province.

 

O Dorran. - Irish / Ui Deoradhain. Ua Deorain now used - deoradh (exile / pilgrim). Gaelic Milesian Irian Ui Laeghis / Ui Laoighis Sept / Family branch of the O More / O Moore / Ui Mordha Sept, who were Irish Brehon Law judges and lawyers.  Especially see O Doran.

O Doughan - Irish / Ua Dubhchon (black hound or warrior). Gaelic Ithian Corca Laoidhe Sept / Family branch who had their territory in Co. Cork in Des Mhumhain / Desmond / Southern Munster and migrated to the north of Co. Tipperary in the north - east of Ormond / North Eastern Munster and nearby in Co. Offaly in the north - west of Southern Leinster. Ancestors: 36.Lewy / Lughaidh, 35.Ith(Ithians).

Heremonian Dal Cuinn "northern" Ui Niaill Cenel Conaill Sept  / Family branch, who had their territory in Co. Donegal in the north - west of the Ulster Province where they were Chiefs of Inishowen in Raphoe in Co. Donegal with their chief seat at Ard Mire near Kilteevoge. Descended from Dochartach in the 10th Century AD who was only twelve generations from 91.Conall Gulban the direct male line ancestor of the Cenel Conaill and the founder of Tir Conaill / Tyrconnell Co. Donegal (The Land of 91.Conall) He was one of the 8 sons of *90.Niall - of the Nine Hostages the 126th King of Tara / Ireland the direct ancestor of the "northern" and "southern" Ui Niaill Septs. Towards Moville is St. Columba’s Stone 6’ square the Inauguration "northern" Ui Niaill stone of Tir Eogain / Tyrone and their ruined Elagh Castle. They survived as an aristocratic Gaelic Milesian Irish Family until the execution of Sir Cahir O Doherty in 1609 AD when all of his followers and every member of his Family were also hunted down and killed by the English over a six week period. They were also in Co. Mayo in the mid - west of the Connacht Province. Douglas. Gaelic de Dubhghlas (of the black water). Norman Scottish origins from Lanarkshire who were in the Ulster Province.

 

O Dounan. Gaelic Milesian Irian Conmaicne Magh Rein Cenel Luachain Sept / Family branch, who had their territory at  Oughteragh / Carrigallen in the south of Co. Leitrim in Northern Connacht. Especially see O Doonan.

Dow. Scottish origins from the Clann Buchanan in the Ulster  Province. Synonymous with Mac Calman - colm / columb (dove) dow (dove) dubh (black).

 

O Dowd or O Dowda or O Dowde or O Doody or O Duddy - Irish / Ua Dubhda - dubh (black). Heremonian Dal Cuinn "northern" Ui Fiachrach Muaidhe Sept / Family branch, who had their territory in Co. Mayo in the mid - west of the Connacht Province and nearby in the west of Co. Sligo in the north - west of Connacht where they were Princes / Tanaistes of Connacht. The O Dowds had their Ard na Glass Castle at Skreen in the south of Co. Sligo, which was later taken over by the Mac Sweeneys who were galloglass mercenaries under the Heremonian Dal Cuinn "northern" Ui Niall Cenel Conaill Sept. The O Dowd Inauguration Mound was at Tieagh where their Chief handed over his arms, apparel and horse to their kinsmen, the leader of the O Coen / Ua Caomhain Sept. These had been previously taken from an ousted dynasty, and he then gave them over to one of their other kinsmen, Mac Firbis / Mac Firbhisigh now mostly known as Forbes, who was of the fili / historians and a learned man. One of their Septs also settled into Co. Kerry in Desmond / Southern Munster where they were known as O Doody and another Sept was in Co. David O Dowd the eldest son of The O Dowd who was over 7 feet tall was an officer in James 11's army who was slain in the Battle of the Boyne and his younger brother, James O Dowd also fought at the Boyne, Athlone, and Aughrim were he was also killed.
