Herb: Anti - Fungal properties useful *Internally and Externally, Astringent, Febrifuge, Simulant, Styptic, Sudorific and Tonic.

Constituents: Acids, Albumen, Bitter Amorphous Principle, Calendulin, Gum, Mucilage, Resin, Saponin, Sugar and Volatile Oil.

Cultivation: Easy to grow, Plant the seeds in the Spring and Autumn in full Sun in most soils. Pick the Flower Petals every few days just as they open and dry on gauze away from Sunlight. Tea: Pour 1 x Cup of boiling water onto 1 - 2 x teaspoons of the Florets and leave to Infuse for 10 - 15 minutes and drink 3 times a day.

Ointment: 85gm soft Parrafin, 10gm Wool Fat, 5ml Tincture of Calendula and 20 drops of Tea Tree Oil. Mix thoroughly and use whenever require. Tincture: Take 1 - 4ml 3 x times a day. Use Externally when required.

Ointment: 3 x Tablespoons of pure white Lard and melt over a low heat and add 2 x Tablespoons of bruised Petals and simmer and cover until quite warm, and warm again, drain off the Petals and pour into a clean, clear glass jar and store in the fridge.

CARAWAY SEED / Persian Cumin / Carum carvi - Apiaceae - Carrot Umbelliferae. Wild / Europe /North Africa. N.B: Do not use in greater then Culinary quantities if Pregnant or Breast Feeding. Main Use: For flavouring and especially used for Children. Actions: Anti - Spasmodic, Aromatic, Astringent, Carminative, Expectorant, Emmenagogue and Galactogogue.

Cultivation: A Biennial hollow stemmed herb with a rosette of lacy, finely cut leaves, thick spindle shaped taproot in the first season and stalks bearing flat, umbrella like clusters of green - white flowers in the second summer. Requires a well - drained soil in a warm sunny position. The brown, crescent shaped seeds are marked with a distinct ridges. Height: leafy growth 20 - 40cm flower stalks 50 - 60cm. Sow a few seeds direct in clumps 15 - 20cm apart in spring or early autumn and as they are slow to germinate keep weed free and when 7 - 10cm high thin to the strongest seedling. Water in the morning and not from above. Leaves, Roots and Seeds used in cooking and fresh young Leaves are added to Salads, Soups or cooked Vegetables such as Silver Beet, Spinach, Marrow or Squash and harvest the Leaves when required. Tender young Roots can be pulled in Winter for boiling or to bake similar to parsnips if the plant is not required to produce seed or lift the Roots after removing the Seed. Cut the flowering Stems when the Seeds begin to darken and ripen and secure in small bunches to allow air movement and hang them upside down if grown for Seeds then cut off all the seed heads before they shatter and dry on sheets of paper or put in nylon mesh bags. Seeds can contain Weevils so freeze before storage to kill the eggs. Seeds can be sprinkled over Vegetables while cooking such as Broccoli, Cabbage, Carrots, Cauliflowers, Onions, Parsnips, Potatoes and Turnips. Can be mixed with biscuits, breads, cakes or blended with cream cheese. The aromatic Oil is is used to flavour liqueur. Product: the Seeds are used.

Flatulence as an anti - Septic and Stimulant to the Body and can be added to Cabbage to reduce.                  Intestinal / Colic:                                  Sprains: cook and mash the Seeds and use warm as a Poultice.

 Stomach Spasms: as an anti - Septic and Stimulant to the Body.                Tooth / Ache: with the Oil similar to Clove Oil, but has a milder effect by applying the Oil to a clean cotton ball and hold gently against the affected area.            Wind: dispels.
