Wash a handful of fresh Chickweed and shake it dry and ensure there is no bugs or grit in it and put in a non - Aluminium saucepan with 2 x Tablespoons of Milk and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove the mixture from the heat and crush to a pulp and press the herb well into the Milk to create a thick texture. Allow to cool and use directly on the closed Eyes or soak pieces of clean cloth or cotton in the mixture and lay over the Eyes for 10 minutes. Feverish Conditions: to allay. CHIVES, Onion / Alluim schoenoprasum. Onion / Garlic tuberosum / Amaryllidaceae. Main Use: Aromatic and Digestive aid. Actions: mildly Anti - Biotic, Anti - Septic and Tonic. Constituents: rich in Sulphur. Cultivation: Perennial plants 20 - 30cm that grow in grass - like clumps of long, round, hollow leaves as the underground bulbs multiply rapidly to form daughter bulbs and during Summer produce flowering stalks bearing small, bulb - like buds that develop into mauve, clover - like blossoms. Garlic Chives 50 - 60cm high have light, green, broad, flat leaves and white flowers. Like full Sun or semi - shade in well drained soils that retain moisture and divide the bulb clusters or sow seeds direct in clumps 20cm apart in Spring, Summer and early Autumn and thinning is not required. As the clumps die back in Winter, and should be divided in late Winter before the regrowth in Spring and like nitrogen fertiliser or liquid feeds of soluble fertiliser during Spring to Autumn. Use in Salads and bunches of fresh Leaves as they have a mild flavour but if used in hot foods only add a few minutes before serving as long cooking destroys the flavour. Chop after cutting 1" or 2" above the base of the Pot and place in ice cubes to preserve if required. Chives in Cooking: Cut a large bunch into 1/2cm lengths and sprinkle over a Salad or steam Vegetables. Lay a bed of Chives in a Casserole dish and put the Fish on top. Pour on White Wine and bake in a moderate oven. The tiny Bulbs can be pickled as a savoury food.
