TAMARIND / Tamarindus indica - Used to Treat: Liver: 

TANSY / Tanacetum vulgare. Europe. N.B: Do not use if Pregnant, as it may cause miscarriage. Actions: contains some of the same Anti - Migraine compounds - Parthenolides as Feverfew  and is Anti - Septic.

Cultivation: A small herb. Product: the Leaves are used. *Used also in stuffing or for seasoning Meat.

Used to Treat: Amenorrhoea - Lack of Menstruation: Digestive System: use the Tea as a Tonic. Female Conditions: used as an Emmenagogue. Freckles: infuse the herb with Milk as it has a bleaching effect on the Skin. Insect Repellent: used in the kitchen as a repellent and as an Anti - Septic or hung in larders or meat safes. Dry the Leaves and Flowers and add to Potpourri to deter Fleas, Flies & Lice. Lice: used as a Wash made from a strong Tea. Migraines: Rheumatism: use the Tea. Scabies: Used as a Wash made from a strong Tea. Skin Conditions: as it acts as a Tonic to brighten up sagging Skin. Stomach Conditions: Tansy Wine used. Worms: as an Anthelmintic - especially Children. 

TARRAGON, French / Artemisia dracunculus. Estragon / see also Tarragon - Russian below. Compositae Family. Actions: Aphrodisiac due to its warming taste.

Cultivation: A perennial, bushy herb 6- - 100cm high with a creeping root system and erect branching stems, bearing slender, pointed, dark - green Leaves 3 - 7cm long with small green - white flowers in loose terminal clusters at the end of Summer with seeds rarely produced. Dies back in Winter. Likes full Sun and protection from Winds in a light to medium, well - drained, moderately rich soil. To propagate take cuttings in early Summer and place 30 - 60cm apart. The fresh or dried Leaves have an Anise - like flavour and are used in green Salads, sour Cream, Sauces, Mayonnaise and Chicken or Fish Soups. They also compliment Egg, Kidney, Liver, Poultry and Veal dishes. Can be combined with Chervil, Chives & Parsley. This herb is superior to Russian Tarragon. Oil: Contains the Essential Oil, Eugenol similar to the Anaesthetising Oil in Oil of Cloves.

 Used To Treat: Amenorrhoea: Colic: Digestive System: Fatigue: Flatulence: Heart: to prevent the Artery narrowing plaque deposits that are associated with Strokes. High Blood Pressure: Indigestion: Insect Bites & Stings: Tooth Ache: Wounds - minor: as a first aid dressing due to its slight Anti - Bacterial effect. 

 

TARRAGON, Russian / Artemisia - Cultivation: has rougher light green Leaves with a less tart flavour but does produce seeds and the plant dies back in Winter. To propagate sow a few seeds direct in clumps 60cm apart in Spring or early Summer. 

TEA / Black / Indian / Camelia sinensis. N.B: The Caffeine in it can cause Insomnia and the Jitters. N.B: Do not drink in the evening, as the Caffeine will effect a good night's sleep. Constituents: Caffeine, Tannin.

Used to Treat: Asthma: contains Caffeine and two other compounds that may assist, Theobromine and Theophylline who all belong to a group called Xanthines that help to stop Broncho - Spasms and open constricted Bronchial Passages. Has about 50mg Caffeine per cup. Diabetes: Skin: due to the Tannin a natural healing agent that protects or a cotton ball dipped in a strong strained Tea on the affected area. Sunburn: used as a cold Tea with Tomato will relieve the Pain and apply Aloe Vera Gel to the painful area as required. Or use a cup of strong warm strained Tea in a bath to relieve.

 

TEA TREE OIL / Melaleuca alternifolia. The Antiseptic White Oil is used to treat almost any Skin Condition. N.B: Do not ingest as it can be fatal as all Essential Oils are very concentrated.

Used to Treat: Abscesses: Externally. Acne: one of the best natural Anti - Bacterial substances. Athlete's Foot: apply topically or add to a Foot - bath and use daily. Candidas: use a Douche of 250ml of warm water and 1 Tablespoon of Slippery Elm Powder and add 3 drops of the Tea Tree Oil. Carbuncles: used Externally. Dandruff: Ear Ache: Fungal Infections: used Externally. Gingivitis: Insect Repellent: by applying to all exposed areas but avoid contact with the Eyes or Mouth. Scabies: Skin Conditions - Pimples: use as a wash. Sores: used Externally. Teeth: use the Twigs sharpened to a slanted edge as a toothbrush. Tinea: used Externally. Throat - Infections: as a Gargle. Ulcers: used Externally. Vaginitis: Wounds - Minor Cuts - Grazes - Long time Healing: use as a wash or soak as gauze in either neat or diluted Tea or with the Ointment as a dressing to clear up and soothe and change frequently exposing the wound to the air often. If persistent use an Astringent wash of the Oil in Witch Hazel and use a loose Compress of Anti - Septic herbs. 

THREE IN ONE / 5 Seasons Herb / Puerto Rican Oregano / Cuban Oregano / Coleus amboinicus. Used as a Condiment and has a sweet scent. Used to Treat: Hair Conditioner - Rinse - Shampoo: Insect Bites - Stings: use the fresh Leaves pulped as a Poultice. 

 

THUJA / Arbor Vitae / Tree of Life / Thuja occidentalis / Canada. N.B: Pregnant Females should not use this herb as it may cause contractions. 

Actions: Alterative, Astringent, Diuretic, Emmenagogue, Expectorant, Irritant and Smooth Muscle Stimulant.

Cultivation: A spreading small evergreen Conifer / yellow Cedar. Product: the Leaves are used / the new green Twigs collected in Summer. Infusion: 1 teaspoon of the herb per cup of boiling water. Tincture: 1 to 2ml x 3 times a day. 

Horses: Greasy Heel and Ringworm: Externally used as an Anti - Fungal Ointment.

Used to Treat: Amenorrhoea: Athlete's Foot: used as an Ointment. Bronchial Catarrh: Bronchitis: for those with Cardiac weakness. Cancer: May be of value as an Anti - Carcinomatous agent. Dry Coughs: Coughs - prolonged Fevers: Feet - Tinea - Plantar Warts: Fungal Conditions: can also be used as a Fungicide Wash to clean the shower. Head Ache: Heart Disease: Used in combination with Grindelia, Senega or Lobelia. Heart - pain: Heart - weak: Stimulates. Incontinence: reduces. Irritable Coughs: Menstruation - delayed: brings on. Muscular Aches: Nail Infections: Nerve Stimulant: Pains: Poraisis: Ringworm: Rheumatism: Swelling: Ulcers - Tropical: Uterus: Uterine - Carcinomas: Vaginal - Thrush: Vaccination: reduces the side effects. THYME / Garden / Common - Thymus vulgaris / Camphor - Scented - capittelatus / Caraway - Scented - herba - barona / Lemon - citriodorus / Turpentine Scented Thyme - comosus / Labiatae Mint Family - Europe.

Main Use: Coughs. For the Digestive Tract, Lungs and Urinary Tract. As an Anti - Septic used for Urinary Tract and Digestive Tract Conditions.  Actions: Anodyne, Anti - Fungal, Anti - Microbial, Anti - Septic, Anti - Spasmodic, Appetising, Aromatic, Astringent, Carminative, Culinary, Depurative, Diuretic, Expectorant, Nervine, Pectoral, Soothing and Tonic.     Constituents: Contains Bitter Principle, Saponin, Essential Oil, Resin and Tannin.

Cultivation: Easy to grow, a small Aromatic perennial herb 5 - 30cm high with thin branches with pink / white or lavender - violet flowers at the tips of the branches and small grey - green Leaves to form an erect, bushy plant. Likes full Sun in a light to medium, well drained, moderately poor soil and the Leaves are used in Mediterranean cooking especially with Garlic, Onions and Tomatoes with the pungent Oil drawn out by the heat of Summer. Propagation: Cuttings, Root divisions and Seed. Sow the Seed in the Spring or Autumn and transplant to 15cm apart or take Tip Cuttings in early Summer. Grow from cuttings from Autumn to Spring 30cm apart or water a punnet evenly and squeeze the cell at the base to remove seedlings and plant immediately in a prepared area and water thoroughly and prune regularly, as plants become woody after flowering. Harvest: 8 - 10 weeks and renew plants every 2 - 3 years. Use the fresh or dried chopped Leaves also in Eggs, Soups, Stews, Fish, Meat, Poultry and Vegetable dishes. Can be combined with Sprigs of Marjoram, Parsley and a Leaf of Sweet Bay to flavour Casseroles, Soups and Stews. Collect the Leaves and Flowers in the Summer while still Flowering from the Flowering Branches and strip off the Leaves when dried. Use the whole herb above the ground and also the Oil. Preservative: used for Meat. Tea: Pour 1 x cup of boiling water onto 2 teaspoons of the dried herb and Infuse for 10 minutes - Dosage: 1 cup 3 x times a day. Tincture: 2 - 4ml 3 x times a day.   

Used to Treat: Abdominal Cramps: Acne: 2 Tablespoons of whole Milk with 2 Tablespoons of strong Thyme Tea and add enough Cornflour to thicken to a creamy consistency and spread onto the affected area and leave for 5 minutes and rinse well and pat dry with a soft towel. Ageing: a good source of Anti - Aging compounds and can be used in a hot bath also by adding a few handfuls of the dried herb that will also soothe Back Spasms. Air Freshener: toss a handful of dried Thyme onto a fire in Winter or burn fragrant Oil of Thyme in an incense burner. Alcoholism: pour 1 Litre of boiling water over a handful of herb and Infuse for 2 minutes and place in a Thermos Flask. Dosage: 1 x Tablespoon every 1/2 hour to create Nausea, Vomiting, increased Bowel action, increased Urine & Perspiration along with a great Appetite & Thirst. If a relapse occurs repeat the treatment. Amenorrhoea: Asthma: (Specific) as it is suitable for easing as a Gargle, then swallow the liquid to benefit the Digestive System. Sties: apply concentrated Thyme Tea directly to the Sty with a cotton swab or Compress as it is rich in Thymol a potent anti - Septic and also contains a dozen other anti - Septic compounds. * Hold a warm, moist cloth against the affected Eye to hasten drainage. Stomach Conditions - Pain: Stroke: as an Oil by packing a bottle loosely with the Flowering herb and cover in Olive Oil and leave standing in the Sun or in a warm position for 2 weeks. Tonic: as an Infusion, fresh or dried.

Throat - Sore: as an Infusion Gargle and as an Anti - Septic as the Oil content eases. Used to Treat: Asthma: contains Vitamin C that inhibits the release of Histamine and Flavonoids that also block the release of Histamine to curb Allergy symptoms and Allergy related Asthma. Blood Pressure - High: Skin - Tonic: mash up slices of raw Tomato and lie down and place on the Face for 15 minutes as the pulp is a bracing Skin Tonic and spread the pulp over the area where the large Pores or Blackheads are. The Amino Acids, Minerals & Vitamins in them have an Astringent effect on the Skin. Sunburn: Cold Tea and Tomato will relieve the pain and apply Aloe Vera Gel to the painful area as required. Face Mask: blend equal amounts of Tomato Juice & Lemon Pulp and splash the mixture on the Face, especially the greasy areas and leave 15 minutes then wash off with tepid water.  

TONKA BEANS (Dangerous) Dipteryx odorata. South America / Pea Family. N.B: Should only be taken under specialist prescription. Actions: Tonic with strong Narcotic properties. Cultivation: A large annual herb. Product: the Beans are used. Used to Treat: Cosmetic: as the Seeds are Aromatic. Heart: as a Tonic as it has strong Narcotic properties.
