- Irish / Mheic an Airchinnigh / airchinneach (Erenagh) (Descended from a son of the Erenagh) One of the principal Heberian Dal gCais Ui Caisin Septs / Family branches, who had their territory in Co. Clare, Co. Tipperary and Co. Limerick in Tuaisceart Mhumhain / Thomond / Northern Munster. They were the Kings of Corca Muirceadha / Conaill Uachtrach and are descended initially from 92.Caisin who is also the ancestor of the Siol Aodha Sept that includes the Mac Namaras, O Gradys, Mac Clancys, O Meehans, O Caisins and many other Dalcassian Septs. Mac Kinnerk is also used as a synonym, which was almost sounded as Mac Inerkney. Ancestors: 92.Caisin, 91.Cas the King of Thomond, (Dal gCais). 85.Cormac Cass the 2nd King of Munster, 84.Alill Oluimm the 1st King of Munster.Definition of an Erenagh: By the 11th Century the Abbot in the churches was known as the Comharba / Co - Arb who was the heir of the Saintly founder / or, if this church was not the Saint’s main institution, the Airchinnech / Erenagh / head, who had become the lay Lord. His Family then held the office and the church property from generation to generation. Generally the Comharba or Airchinnech maintained a priest.

Ingoldsby; Sir Henry Ingoldsby was the English appointed Governor of Limerick who received large grants of land confiscated from the Bourkes in the Barony of Clanwilliam in Co. Limerick at Bally Bricken, Bally Houden, Fryarstown, Ludden More, etc. His mother was the daughter of Sir Oliver Cromwell an uncle of Oliver Cromwell.
Ingram. They were in Co. Limerick in the mid - north - west of the Munster Province in the 17th Century AD and fought on both sides during the troubles in Ireland and are now mainly found in the Ulster Province.
Mac Innes. Gaelic / Mheic Aonghuis. A Highland Scottish form of Mac Guinness. Angus and Anguish are also cognate with it.
Mac Inoulty or Mac Inulty - Irish / Mac Inulty. Used as variations for Mac Nulty, which see, in Co. Clare in the north - west of the Munster Province.

Mac Intyre - Irish Mheic an tSoir. (Descended from a Son of a carpenter, freeman, Joiner, judge, mason). Highland Scottish name. Also used by the Mac Ateers, which see who were a Sept Family branch, who had their territory in Co. Donegal in the north - west of the Ulster Provinces and were Chiefs in Co. Tyrone in Central Ulster.
Mac Ire - Irish / Mac Ire. A Sept / Family branch, who had their territory in Co. Cork in Southern Munster.

Ireland or Irland. They originated in England from early emigrants from
Ireland known then as de Irlande - of Ireland whose descendants returned as strangers. Now numerous in Co. Armagh and Co. Antrim in the east of the Ulster Province.
Irish. Similar origins to Ireland, which see, and was in use in Co. Kilkenny in the south - west of Southern Leinster.

Irvine or Ervine. Scottish toponymic origins. Irving was used in Scotland. Also confused with Irwin, which is of different origin. They were in the Ulster Province in the 17th Century AD after the confiscation of the 3,500,000 acres of the Heremonian Dal Cuinn "northern" Ui Niaill territories there and the foreign non - Catholic plantations there and it is seldom found outside of there. Now numerous in
Co. Fermanagh in the south - west of Ulster and the surrounding regions.

Irish / Ua hEireambhoin. Actually O Hirwen who were a Sept / Family branch, who had their territory in Co. Offaly in the north - west of Southern Leinster.
Irwin or Erwin / Eoforwine (boar friend). English origins. Planter stock they were initially in the Ulster Province and in Co. Roscommon in the east of the Connacht Province. Also used as a synonym for Irvine there.

Mac Iveagh. Used as a synonym for Mac Veagh, which see.

Ivory / de Iverio. French originse in Co. Waterford in the south - east of the Munster Province and are descended from William Ivory an Oliver Cromwell soldier.
