In the 12th Century AD the O Mahonys were to become dominated by the increasing power of their Heberian Eoghanacht Chaisil kinsmen the Mac Carthys also of Desmond / Southern Munster in the west of Co. Cork who were also struggling to regain the Heberian Eoghanacht Sept's control over the Munster Kingship. The O Mahony territory was then at the Iveagh Peninsula and at Kinalmeaky near Bandon and they also had a fortress at Crook Haven in Co Cork. By 1583 AD they were at Micheltown where the main branch had turned non - Catholic to try and hold onto their territory due to the constant English ethnic and religious oppression under Elizabeth 1st on "all things Irish." Despite this they were to lose their lands there anyway, which were then granted by the English to the notorious English Landlords the Kingstons. Like so many other Irish Tuaths / Family regions they were to only survive as an aristocratic warrior Gaelic Milesian Sept until the last of the Irish Kings had either been driven out into exile or killed in the 17th Century AD by the English. This was to yield further unforeseen repercussions on the English when in the 19th Century AD the O Mahonys were to produce the "first" Fenian in John Mahony. Another of their legendary descendants was to be Father Prout / Francis Mahony the parish priest of Watergrasshill in Co. Cork who is buried in St. Ann’s Church at Shandon. Both the Eoghanacht and Dal gCais Septs, just like 111.Mahon, were initially descended from the two Gaelic Milesian Heberian brothers, 85.Eoghan Mor ancestor of the Eoghanachta Septs in Southern Munster and 85.Cormac Cass - of the Curly Hair ancestor of the Dal gCais Septs in Thomond / Northern Munster. (The main ancestress of the Tuath Mhumhain was 96.Mor Mumu a daughter of 95.Aed Bennan who had been the Eoghanacht Locha Lein 9a King of Munster who died in 619 - 621 AD). Daniel O Mahony fought in the Battle of the Boyne, the Battle of Aughrim and the Battle of Limerick and took his Regiment to the Continent where he was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Irish Brigade in France and his brother - in - law was the Marshall Duke of Berwick. In 1702 AD he foiled Prince Eugene's attempt to capture Cremona and Louis X1V made him a Colonel and recommended him to Philip V of Spain who gave him a Regiment of Irish Dragoons and he later became a General and the Count of Castile and was to die at Ocana in 1714 AD.
