Markham or O Markahan or Markaham or Markam or Marcolm or Marcom or Marcum or Markum or Ryder - Irish / Ua Marcachain (Descended from Marcan - the Horseman or Rider). Originally sounded in English as O Markahan then anglicized to Markham an English Toponymic to continue to survive the continual English oppression first under Edward 1V the Norman Yorkist English King who in 1464 AD decreed that all Irish names had to be anglicized to that of a town / ton, a colour or a profession with an E on the end or all of their property would be confiscated to him, then in 1623 AD James 1st the Stuart English King decreed also that all Irish O's and Macs were banned and must be anglicized to similar English sounding names.

     Heremonian Dal Cuinn "southern" Ui Fiachrach Cineal Guarie Cineal Ianna Sept / Family branch, who had their original territory near Kilmacduagh in Co. Galway in Southern Connacht who later were to migrate nearby to the south into what became the north of Co. Clare in Thomond / Northern Munster, but which had previously been part of Southern Connacht on the western side of the River Shannon. The O Kane / Ua Cathain was to be the Chief of the Cineal Ianna Sept and they were to be connected to the O Mohans / Ui Mochain, O Gereaghtys / Ua hOireachtaigh / Assemblyman and the O Markahans / Ui Marcachain.

   English: A small number of them were initially in Co. Clare and Co.    In the 7th Century AD 98.Guarie Aidhne the 14th King of Connacht the direct male line ancestor of the Cenel Guarie assembled a great army and marched into Thomond / Tuath Mhumhan to recover his territory in Co. Clare / Southern Connacht taken from his territory of Aidhne in the south of the Connacht  Province and they fought a major battle against the Munster Province forces who were under the command of 95.Failbhe Flann and Dioma the Kings of Munster and the Heremonian Dal Cuinn Ui Fiachrach Aidhne were to be severely defeated. 98.Guairie Aidni is the direct male line ancestor of the Cineal Guarie descended in Ireland originally from *37.Eremon the Celtic Gaelic Milesian joint 1st King of Eire / Erinn whose father was 36.Mil the Gaelic 3rd King of Castile & Portugal and the Celtic Hero of Spain who was initially descended from 12.Magog, a grandson of 14.Feinias Farsaidh the 1st King of Scythia. Some also anglicized their name to Ryder, to also survive under the English oppression, which see, and were in Northern Connacht. In 1848 - 1864 AD the number of the various Markham Families surviving in Co. Clare was 38, in Co. Cork - 3, in Co. Tipperary - 2., in Co. Kerry - 2, in Co. Limerick - 1, in Co. Meath - 1,

Conall a son of 93.Eogan Aidhne a son of 92.Eochy / Echu Breac the direct male line ancestor of the Heremonian Dal Cuinn "southern" Ui Fiachrach  Sept,  a brother to 92.Ailill Molt the 2nd King of Connacht and 129th King of Tara / Ireland and 92.Fiachnae the direct male line ancestor of the "northern" UI Fiachrach Muaide Sept, who were 3 sons of 91.Dathi / Fearadhach the 127th King of Tara / Ireland one of the 3 sons of 90.Fiachra who had been the second Dal Cuinn King of Connach one of the sons of 89.Eochy Mugmedon the 124th King of Tara / Ireland.

Dun Guarie Castle is at Kinvara in Co. Galway south - eastern shore of Galway Bay near Kinvara where the Dun / Fortress of 98.King Guarie, who died in 662 AD, used to be. It was a Mound with Wells to the west of the Castlle. Still held in 1520 AD by the Ui Fiacrach Hynes Sept and in the 17th Century AD by the Martyns until 1924.  

Marlborough. May be Mulberry, which see - Irish / Ua Maoil Bhearaigh. A Sept / Family branch, who had their territory in Co. Clare in the north - west of the Munster Province.

 

O Marley or O Marlie or O Marrilly or O Marlay - Irish / Ua Mearlaigh. Mayo in the mid - west of the Connacht Province. Marley or Marlay. English origins in Co. Longford in the north - west of Northern Leinster in 1675 AD. Also used as a variant for Marlay, which see.

 

O Marlie.  Heremonian Dal Cuinn Colla Da Crioch Cenel Rochada Fernmag (Fer Fermaighe) Farney Sept / Family branch, who had their territory at Clones in Co. Monaghan in Southern Ulster in the kingdom of Orghialla / Airghialla / Oriel and surrounding Counties. Also now found in Co. Donegal in the north - west of the Ulster Province and Co. Marnell. Originally Warnell, which in itself is a derivative of Warner. They have been in Marnellsmeadows in Co. Kilkenny in the south - west of Southern Leinster since 1550 AD.

 

Marquis of Headfort  who had large Estates in Co. Cavan in Southern Ulster in the Ui Briuin Breifne kingdom of East Breifne, but he never lived in the County and was also the English Earl of Annesley and the English Earl of Gosford.

Marshall. Norman occupational origins. (Le Maraschell / the Marshall) They were in Ireland in Medieval Times. Now mostly found in the Ulster Province.
