O Meara, or O Mara of Co.Tipperary, which see - Irish / Ua Meadhra - meadhra / merry. Heberian Dal gCais Ui Bloid Ui Turlogh Sept / Family branch who were the Chiefs of Ui Fahy. They took their name from their Chief, Meadhra, whose territory was at Toomevara / Tuaim Ui Mheara / O Meara's Grave Mound of Limisky in Co. Tipperary in Aur Mhumhain / Ormond / North Eastern Munster. Kinsmen to the O Scanlans, and Mac Arthurs of Co. Limerick. From the 12th - 16th Century they held the territory of Ui Faithaidh / Fahy and Ui Niall in Upper Ormond in Co. Tipperary. Ui Finach / Tuairn ni Mheara / Toomevara a district in Upper Ormond adjoining Ui Fahy and Ui Niall at Aghnamadle became the burial place of the O Mearas. Ui Eochaidh Fionn another district adjoining Ui Niall on the south and other districts in Ormond were also held by them. A branch settled in Co. Kilkenny in Southern Leinster where they became hereditary physicians to the English - Norman Butlers in the 16th - 17th Century with Dr. Barry O Meara acting as surgeon to Napoleon Bonaparte on St. Helena.
