                                                                                                           *103.Niall Glun Dubh - of the Black Knee  the 170th King of Ireland  - 114.Aed - the Lazy Limbed Youth O Niall

  *103.Niall Glun Dubh - of the Black Knee was the Heremonian Ui Cobhthaigh Ui Felim Dal Cuinn "northern" Ui Niaill Cenel nEogain 29/30th King of Aileach in the Ulster Province and the 170th King of Ireland and was also to become the direct male line ancestor of the "northern" Ui Niaill O Nialls / O Neills - of Ulster, and he was to rule for 3 years, during which time he was involved in many conflicts against the Viking Danes, until he was finally killed in battle in 917 AD while taking them head on in the Dublin region in the north - east of Southern Leinster. He left behind 3 sons who were aristocratic warriors including 104,Conall and 104.Maoil Ciaran while his second son;

104.Murtogh / Muirchertach na gCochall g Craicinn / na Ccochall Ceraiciann - of the Leather Cloaks was to gain his epithet when he was to cover himself and his Cenel nEogain warriors in capes of leather while hunting down the Vikings during the Winter very successfully after becoming the Cenel nEogain 33rd King of Aileach in his own right, as he was the heir - apparent (Tanaiste - Rigdoamna Erinn) of the "northern" Ui Niaill Cenel nEogain Kingship of Ireland. (He too was to be killed in 941 / 943 AD, while engaged in conflict against the Vikings by Blacaire who was by then the Viking Danish Chief. Of his own 5 sons, 105,Aodh O Niall was to become the direct male line ancestor of the Clann Aodha Buidhe / Clannaboy Sept who were to have their territory in the north - east of the Ulster Province where they came under the direct influence of the English Galls / Foreigners after the Anglo - Norman English Invasion in the coming late 12th Century AD. Another son, 105.Flaherty / Flaithbertach O Niaill was to also become a King of Aileach, and of his other 2 sons, 105.Murrogh / Murchad O Niall and 105.Flann O Niall were to leave no aristocratic warrior heirs to the Cenel nEogain Kingships. His other son was;

*105.Donnell / Domhnall Ard Macha - of Armagh O Niall  was to become the Heremonian Dal Cuinn Cenel nEogain 34/37th King of Aileach and the"northern" Ui Niaill Cenel nEogain 173rd King of Ireland in 955 AD who receive his epiphet because of where he was to die, at Ard Macha in the Ulster Province in 978 AD, after ruling for 24 years with little success personally against the invading Viking Danes, as due to the disruption to the Irish Brehon Law created by the constant Viking raids on the individual Septs throughout Ireland he had instead been more intent on concentrating most of his efforts against the other Heremonian Dal Cuinn Septs in the Connacht Province just to hold onto his own position in the immediate scheme of things. He too was to be the father of 5 sons who were all to become aristocratic warrior Cenel nEogain Princes of  (The Land of 91.Eogain) Tir Eogain / Co. Tyrone in Central Ulster and also the Chiefs of Clannaboy / Clann na Aedh Buidhe who were to have their territory in the north - east of Ulster. One of his sons, 106.Aedh O Niall of Craeb Tulcha was to be killed in the Battle of Craeb Tulca in 1004 AD, while another was also known as 106.Aedh, and another 106. Murrogh Mor Midheach na Mergaedh O Niall who would be the first to use the surname of O Niall Mor - the Greater - of Ulster. 106.Murray / Muireadach O Niall another of his sons was to become personally involved in a double co - incidence as the father also of another; 107.Lochlann who may have been or  / not been the male line ancestor of the Mac Loughlin / Mheic Lochlainn "northern" Ui Niaill Cenel nEogain Kings of Ireland, due to the dual occurrence of not only having the same name, but also the same number, as to who was the right one in the Cenel nEogain pedigree as;

       The Cenel nEogain Mac Loughlins / Ui Lochlainns were to then dominate the Kingship of Aileach from 1062 AD for 130 years until one of their Cenel nEogain O Niall kinsman, 114.Aed - the Lazy Limbed Youth O Niall was to then revive the fortunes of the O Nialls to the aristocratic warrior direct male line to the Kingships once again. (From 1064 AD - 1160 AD the Mac Loughlins / Mheic Lochlainn were the only Cenel nEogain Sept to be mentioned in the Annals of Ulster.)  There is a genuine query as to whether it was 107.Lochlainn who died in 1023 AD descended from 100.Donnell / Domhnall the previous 28th King of Aileach who died in 915 AD, or from the other 107.Lochlainn who emanated from his brother, *103.Niall - of the Black Knee, and his grandson, *105.Donnell / Domhnall O Niall the 34 /37 King of Aileach who also became the 168th King of Ireland, who is actually the direct male line ancestor of the Mac Loughlin / Mheic Lochlainn Cenel nEogain Kings. The Mac Loughlins would not give up their previous position in the Kingships easily.

       Despite this particular uncertainty at that time as to who was the real 107.Lochlann involved in producing the Mac Laughlins, the other son of *105.Donnell Ard Macha O Niall the 173rd King of Ireland who would carry the Cenel nEogain O Niall male line forward for the Cenel nEogain O Nialls was;

106.Murtogh / Muirchertach Mor Midheach O Niall who was to die in 977 AD who was to be the father of;

107.Flaherty / Flaithbertach an Trostain O Niall  - of the Pilgrim's Staff the Cenel nEogain 40th King of Aileach who was to die in 1036 AD who was to become the more direct male line ancestor of the actual O Niall / O Neill Families in the Ulster Province, as he was to be the father of;

108.Aedh Athlaman / Allan O Niall the Cenel nEogain Prince of Tir Eogain / Tyrone who was to die 3 years before his father in 1033 AD as the father of 109.Dunlevy / Donnsleibhe / Aodh Anrachan (Suibhne - of Fanad who was to become the ancestor of Mac Sweeney (Mac Suibhne - of the Battle Axes and Mac Suibhne - of Badhaine). 108.Aedh Athlaman O Niall's other son who then carried the O Niall aristocratic warrior main male line forward was;

109.Donnell / Domhnall an Trogdam / Togdham - the Young Ox O Niall who became the overall Cenel nEogain King of Ulster for 5 years - with opposition until he was slain by his kinsman Mac Loughlin / Lochlainn over who had the real authority among the Cenel nEoghain Septs, and he was to be the father of a daughter, Joan, and a son;

110.Flaherty / Flaithbertach Locha Hodha / Loch Adhar O Niall who was also to be an overall Cenel nEogain King of Ulster - with opposition for 3 years until he too was slain by another Mac Loughlan / Lochlainn over who still had the real authority among the Cenel nEoghain Septs and he was to be the father of;

111.Conor / Conchobar na Fledhbhadh / Fiodhbha O Niall who was also to be an overall Cenel nEogain King of Ulster  - with opposition for 10 years until he too was also slain in 1170 AD by another Mac Loughlin / Lochlainn over who had the real authority among the Cenel nEogain Septs, and he was to be the father of;

112.Teague / Tadhg an Glinne / Gleann O Niall also an overall Cenel nEogain King of Ulster - with opposition for 7 years until slain once again by one of the Mac Loughlins / Lochlainns, and he was to be the father of;

113.Murtogh / Muirchertach / Lughadh Magh Line O Niall who was to become the Cenel nEogain "northern" Ui Niaill King who was married to the daughter of O Flynn / Ua Floinn Line the Heremonian Dal Cuinn Colla Da Crioch King of the Ui Thuirtre Sept whose territory was on the eastern side of the River Bann from Tuaim towards The Rock of Fergus / Carraic Fearghuis the territory taking in Magh Line and Rath Line, and in 1160 AD he too was to be killed accidently at this time by Lochlainn Mac Loughlin / Mheic Lochlainn, as both were during this period on the same side, when the Cenel Eogain Sept from Telach Og in the Ulster Province besieged the nearby Cenel nEogain O Gormly / Ui Gailmredhaigh Sept, along with Donnell O / Mac Creaghan / Ua Crichain and the Ui Fiachrach Sept from the Connacht Province. He was to leave behind a young son;

114.Aedh an Macaomh Toinleasc / Toinleasg - the Lazy Limbed Youth O Niall who gained his epiphet after his father's death, as while he was still very young, Mac Loughlin / Lochlainn was to visit his maternal foster family, the O Flynns / Ui Floinn, where he met up with him personally and as he was a Mac Loughlin he gave him no respect by refusing to rise from his seat when he arrived, and so gained the epithet of - the Lazy Limbed Youth from Mac Loughlin. (114.Aedh - the Lazy Limbed Youth O Niall was to later on kill Mac Loughlin / Mac Lochlainn. In 1167 AD. Despite the continuing enmity among the "northern" Ui Niaill Septs 112.Niall Mac Loughlin who was to be one of the 2 sons of *111.Murtogh Mac Loughlin / Lochlainn, was to eventually re - divide Tir  Eoghan / Tyrone (The Land of 91.Eogan) and the kingdom of Aileach with 114.Aedh - the Lazy Limbed Youth O Niall, The north of the Mountain (Callain - Inishowen Peninsula and Co. Derry went to 112.Niall Mac Loughlin along with 2 hostages from the O Cane / O Kane / Ui Cathain Sept of Craeb, and also Mac an Ghaill O Brann / Ua Brain, while the south of the Mountain (Co. Tyrone) went to 114. Aedh - the Lazy Limbed Youth O Niall along with 2 hostages from the Cenel Aedghusa / O Mulderry / Ua Mael Aedha and O Hurley / Ua hUrthuille from his mother's Sept the Dal Cuinn Colla Da Crioch Ui Thuirtre Sept). (This then was to be the catalyst for the re - emergence of the O Niall / O Neill Septs once again to prominence in the Ulster Province).

 1169 AD - 1172 AD saw the Anglo - Norman English Invasion of Ireland in full swing.

1176 AD 114. Aed - the Lazy Limbed Youth O Niall became the Cenel nEogain King / Rigdoamna Erenn (heir apparent) in his own right, but he was to be killed in battle during the next year in 1177 AD by Mael Sechlainn O / Mac Loughlin and Ardgal O / Mac Loughlin who were to be also killed during the conflict by O Niall and his followers and he left behind 2 sons, 115.Aedh Dubh Meith O Niall and 105.Niall Ruadh - of Red Complexion O Niall.

     During the following 64 years there was still to be increased conflict between the Cenel nEogain O Niall Septs and the Cenel nEogain Mac Loughlins Septs for overall supremacy of the Cenel nEogain Sept in the Ulster Province with the added turmoil then of their new enemy the invading Anglo Norman English Gall / Foreigners who were by then well and truly trying to also take over their territories in Ulster. The previous individual Cenel nEogain kingdoms in Ulster of Craeb Tulca, Inish Eogan / Inishowen and Magh Ith were by then being well and truly infiltrated and decimated by the English Galls' terrifying bloody onslaughts on the Irish Septs there. Besides this, Co. Tyrone this year would be divided up also by *115.Rory O Connor, who was by now the Heremonian Dal Cuinn Ui Briuin 183rd King of Ireland, to further try and weaken the Cenel Eogain's combined previous strength there in regards to the Kingship of Ireland. (It would not be until 1241 AD that one or the other of these 2 Dal Cuinn Cenel nEogain dynasties were to regain overall total control over their "northern" Ui Niall Cenel nEogain Septs in Ulster. During the previous 22 years the Mac Loughlins had held the upper hand in Ulster, until Rory O Laverty / Flaherty / Ua Laithbheartaigh who was also a Tanaiste / heir apparent of Tyrone was to be the first to intervene in their previous overall control in 1186 AD, and then O Mulderry / Ui Mael Doraidh also from one of their other important Septs in Tyrconnell / Co. Donegal was to also intervene in the scheme of things again in 1197 AD.

      After these two intermittent interventions 115.Aedh Dubh Meith O Niall, the older son of *114.Aed - the Lazy Limbed Youth O Niall, was to then once again gain the upper hand among the Cenel nEogain Septs in 1199 AD for a few years until he was then to be deposed by Conor Beag - the Little Mac Loughlin in 1201 AD who was also soon to be slain, and 115.Aedh Meith O Niall then regained the overall Cenel nEogain Kingship again in 2012 AD, and to then show the increasing strength of the O Nialls they were to hold on to it until he died in 1230 AD.

       The conflicts between these two aristocratic warrior Cenel nEogain Septs then began once more in earnest, and from 1232 AD until 1238 AD the Mac Loughlins also once again regained the Cenel nEogain Kingship until the Anglo - Norman English also totally besieged Co. Tyrone, under the leadership of Mac Maurice the Anglo - Norman Baron who was by then the English Gall appointed Justicar in Ireland, and his subordinate Hugh de Lacy the Anglo - Norman Baron. Donnell Mac Loughlin / Domhnall Mac Lochlainn was then deposed by them, and *116.Brian Catha Duinn O Niall, the son of 115.Niall Ruadh - of Red Complexion O Niaill, (the younger brother of 115.Aed Meith O Niall) was then installed by the English as the new Cenel nEogain King. Once again in 1239 AD Donnell Mac Loughlin was to be successful in the Battle of Carn Siadhail against Donnell / Domhnall Tamhnach O Niall, which then meant that he had regained the Cenel nEogain Kingship for the Mac Loughlin Sept, but 2 years later in 1241 AD, due to the ongoing pressure from the Anglo - Norman English Galls also in Ulster, this caused the "northern" Ui Niall Cenel nEogain O Nialls to combine their forces with their other Heremonian Dal Cuinn "northern" Ui Niall kinsmen, the Dal Cuinn Cenel Conaill Sept who had their territory in the north - west of Ulster, against the O Nialls Cenel nEogain kinsmen the Mac Loughlins.
