River
Shannon and the River

to the north of the

- Irish forces and marched south, burning as they
went, and kept moving on, and eventually laid siege to
Dublin

massive English Military force then landed
in
Ireland,
and
the Bruces and their
Irish
allies

and his widow in a panic burnt down their
stronghold in
Bunratty Castle and fled back to
England with as many valuables
as she could carry, and this single act of defiance by one of the

The
English
Galls had
previously built
walled defences around
Castledermot
in
Co. Kildare
in Central Southern Leinster
against the
Gaelic
Irish
and the
Scottish
- Irish
forces of Edward Bruce who
by now only had the support of a few followers in the
Ulster Province,
and his Scottish supply lines were also undependable. but he was now also assisted by
the Anglo
- Irish
de Laceys, who had been previously displaced as the English Earls of Ulster, and he rode southwards out of

the

not join in to such a head on one sided battle, but suggested that they could
carry out guerrilla warfare until further assistance arrived to support him.
Desperate for immediate victory he decided instead to charge headlong into
battle with his own knights at Dundalk in Co. Louth
in the north - east of Northern Leinster, who were
then defeated and he was killed and his head was

Mac Rory
the

of the Hebrides
and
Mac Donnell
the
King of Argyle
and many of their
Scottish
supporters
were also killed after going through 3 1/2 years of hell. As
Robert 1st
"The Bruce"
had already gone back to
Scotland
prior to this, and the rest of the
Highland
Scots
who were
previously
under Edward Bruce's command now decided to do the same,
except in
Co. Down in
the south - east of the
Ulster Province
where they ravaged the region forcing the Anglo
- Irish
there to combine with them in their own interests.

could cede his kingdom to whoever he wanted to,"
and condemned the
Norman English
Galls for not dealing
justly
with the
Gaelic

in

was still very

and it
was to be the
