                                                                                                                                                       1241 AD - 1245 AD

                                                                                                                                          "O Donnell Mor"."

1241 AD This year was to see the beginning of the eventual "rise" of the Heremonian Dal Cuinn "northern" Ui Niaill Cenel Conaill O Donnells as a very important Sept in their "own right" who were from the Clan Dalaigh / Daly who had their territory in Tir Conaill / Tyrconnell / Co. Donegal / Dun na Gall (Fort of the Strangers) in the north - west of the Ulster Province under the leadership of Donnell / Domhnall Mor O Donnell  - the Greater the Cenel Conaill King of Tir Conaill / Tyrconnell who was also now "in control" of adjacent territory in nearby Co. Fermanagh in the south - west of the Ulster Province, and on his "death" this year he would be interred at Assaroe / Esroe / Ballyshannon. Mael Sechlainn O Donnell, his son, was to then become the new Cenel Conaill King who would take the opportunity to "combine the forces of his Cenel Conaill Sept with his other Heremonian Dal Cuinn "northern" Ui Niaill kinsmen who were under the leadership of *116.Brian Catha Duin O Niall who had previously been "banished" by his close Cenel nEogain rival, 113.Donnell / Domhnall Mac Loughlin who had at that time become the overall Cenel nEogain King of Ulster. 113.Donnell Mac Loughlin despite his previous rise to overall authority in the Ulster Province, would be "slain" this year in the "Battle of Caim Eirge" along with 10  close members of his immediate aristocratic warrior Mac  Loughlin Family / Derb Fine and also many of the other aristocratic warriors from the Cenel nEogain Sept, when he was to come up against *116.Brian Catha Duinn O Niall, over who now really had the "overall authority" in the overall Dal Cuinn "northern" Ui Niaill Cenel nEogain kingdom in the Ulster Province. 113.Donnell Mac Loughlin, had been a son of 112.Murtough Og - the Younger Mac Loughlin the previous King of Aileach in the Ulster Province who had died in 1196 AD, who had been a son of *111.Murtough Mor Mac Loughlin - the Greater who had been the previous 55th / 57th King of Aileach and 182nd King of Ireland - with opposition. As many of the aristocratic warrior Mac Loughlins were now "slain" during this particular conflict the Mac Loughlins were 'never again" to challenge their close Cenel nEogain kinsmen, the O Nialls, for the overall authority within the Cenel nEogain Septs and *116.Brian Catha Duinn O Niall now became the "new overall" Heremonian Dal Cuinn Cenel nEogain "northern" Ui Niaill King of Ulster.

Meanwhile Maurice Fitz Gerald / Muiris mac Gerailt the English Baron and English Justicar in Ireland, with his English followers and their Irish allies, including some of the O Connor's followers, besieged the Heremonian Dal Cuinn Ui Briuin Ai kingdom of Mag nAi in the Connacht Province, plundering both the territory of the O Flynns / Ui Flainn and Donough mac Dermot / Mheic Diarmada, and as a result of this particular English onslaught Mac Gilla Kelly / Mheic Giolla Cellaig was among those slain along with many others, and he also took his English followers to Ballylahan into the nearby Heberian Cianachta O Hara kingdom of Leyney in Co. Sligo in the north - west of the Connacht Province were Teague / Tadhg O Connor was forced to make "peace" with him, and he then plundered the Heremonian Dal Cuinn Ui Briuin Breifne kingdom of Dartry and the Clann Fermaighe.

111.Donough Cairbreach O Brian the Heberian Dalcassian Ui mBriain King of Northern Munster / Thomond, who had accepted the English title of the Earl of Thomond, had finally finished the construction of the Ennis Abbey in Ennis in Co. Clare in the north - west of the Munster Province, which he had granted to the "Franciscan" friars, and near by there still are the ruins of Clare Abbey and Killone Abbey, which had been previously constructed there by his "single - minded" father, 110.Donnell Mor O Brian who had been the "last" and 47th King of Cashel / Munster in the 12th Century AD. (Ennis Abbey has now been "restored" by the Irish Government after Centuries of neglect.)

Meyler de Bermingham who was the second English Baron of Athenry in Co. Galway in the south - west of the Connacht Province founded a "Dominican" friary church there.

A "Franciscan" friary was also constructed nearby at Athlone in Co. Westmeath in Northern Leinster on the River Shannon, were there is a "stone" on the bridge signifying the "boundary" between Northern Leinster and the Connacht Province.

Walter de Lacy the English Baron who was now the English Earl of Meath who had his "confiscated" Estates in the O Melaghlins / O Loughlins Heremonian Dal Cuinn "southern" Ui Niaill Clann Cholmain kingdom of Meath / Midhe in the south of Northern Leinster, who had previously been the "chief counsellor" for the English Galls in Ireland, "died" this year in England.

Teague O Gara, the son of Rory O Gara from the Heberian Cianachta Sept in their kingdom of Leyney in the Connacht Province, also "died" this year.

Albert of Cologne the Co - Arb of Patrick came to Ireland after being sent by Pope Celestine 1V to grant privileges to St. Patrick's churches, including the Church at Athlone of the "Friars Minor," which he consecrated, and also made arrangements with the Catholic Bishops of Connacht Province as to Armagh in Co. Armagh in the south - east of the Ulster Province as to its "dominant" overall position in the religious life in Ireland.

St. Finnian's monastery was also constructed this year at Aghadoe / Achadh da Eo (The Field of the Two Yew Trees) in Co. Kerry in the south - west of the Munster Province in the Heberian Eoghanacht Mac Carthy kingdom of Des Muma / Desmond / Southern Munster.

1242 AD Brian O Dowd 1st / Ua Dubda was now the Heremonian Dal Cuinn "northern" Ui Fiachrach Muaide King who had their territory of Tir Awley / Tir nAmalgaid in Co. Mayo in the mid - west of the Connacht Province.

111.Donough Cairbreach O Brian, the Heberian Dal gCais Ui Turlough Ui mBriain King of Northern Munster / Thomond and English appointed Earl of Thomond, "died" this year, as did one of his sons, 112.Turlough O Brian, while another of his sons 112.Conor na Suidane O Brian was to become the new Heberian Dalcassian King of Northern Munster until 1267 AD, who had two sons of his own, 113.Teague / Tadhg O Brian and 113.Brian O Brian. The English Galls were still in control of the O Brian's original main seat of Killaloe, in the north - east of Co. Clare, which had been the previous Dal gCais Ui Turlough Ui mBriain "stronghold" for Centuries, so 112.Conor na Suidane O Brian was forced to set himself up at Clonroad (The Meadow of the Long Rowing) in the town of Ennis itself, which is now the main centre in Co. Clare in the north - west of the Munster Province.

Walter de Lacy's brother, Hugh / Hugo de Lacy another of the original Anglo - Norman Barons, was "slain" at Durrow, (where there is the "first" monastery of 94.St. Columbcille / St. Columba), by Gilla an Inathar - the Gutless Lad Ua Miadaig with an axe, who had been urged on by O Kearney / Ua Catharnaigh Sionnach - the Fox and O Brain, and he was able to escape to Kilclare. (Many of O Kearney's descendants would anglicize their name later on to Fox.)

Hugh de Lacy had been re - appointed the English Earl of Ulster after the previous "death" of the erratic English King John "Lackland,"  but he was to leave "no heir," so Walter de Burgh / Bourke the English Baron took up this "official" English position and title in Ireland for himself, and would be followed into this position later on by his son, Richard / Rickarde - the Red Earl de Burgh / Burke.

The Heremonian Dal Cuinn Ui Briuin Ui Maille Sept of the O Malleys / Ui Maille, who were descended through another individual Heremonian Dal Cuinn Ui Briuin Sept also eminating from *91.Daui Tenga Uma - of the Sweet Tongue who had been  the 128th King of Tara / Ireland, and who had their territory on the west - coast in Westport in Co. Mayo in the west of the Connacht Province were to also become subject to the English Barons the de Burghs at this time. *91.Daui Tenga Uma is also the "direct male" line ancestor of the Dal Cuinn Ui Briuin Ai Sept that culminated in the Siol Muireadhaigh / Sil Murray Ui Conchobair O Connors, the Mac Dermots, the Mac Donaghs, the O Flynns, the O Flanagans etc, and also of the Dal Cuinn Ui Briuin Breifne Septs culminating in the O Rourkes and the O Reillys through one of his sons, 92.Eogan Srem, and also the Dal Cuinn Ui Briuin Seola Sept through his other son, 92.Senach that was to evolve into the O Flahertys who were all Kings at one time in the Connacht Province.

Without an "official" leader under "The Irish Brehon Law" the Connacht Province and the many Irish Septs who  had their kingdoms and territories there, who were continually subject to the English Barons greed, were to continue to be in ever "great" turmoil, and in a further attempt to gain overall control in the Connacht Province 117.Aed Mac Ruaidri Og - the Younger O Connor, the son of 116.Aed mac Ruaidri O Connor, the son of *115.Rory O Connor the last "official" 183rd King of Ireland was "slain" also by 117.Turlough mac Cathail Crobhdhearg O Connor, the son of 116.Aed mac Cathail Crobhdhearg O Connor, the son of 115.Cathal Crobhdhearg O Connor who had managed to install himself initially as the "unofficial" 60th King of Connacht supported by the English Barons in the first place. 115.Cathal Crobhdhearg O Connor had been the" illegitimate" half - brother to *115.Rory O Connor, and he had previously gained the position of the 60th King of Connacht against the tenets of "The Irish Brehon Law" after being assisted by "force of arms" under the auspices of the English Barons. 116.Aed mac Cathail Crobhdhearg O Connor's sons feeling that they were now "finally" well in control of the situation in the Connacht Province then also attacked the castle of Costello / Mac Goisdealbh another of the the English Barons, who had his "confiscated" Estates in the Heremonian Dal Cuinn Ui Briuin Breifne kingdom also in the Connacht Province and they were able to "destroy" it to try and stop its further use by the English against the surrounding Irish Septs in the Connacht Province.

The "unofficial" O Connors had further "internal conflict" among themselves when 118.Teague / Tadhg mac Cathail Crobhdhearg O Connor, another of the sons of 117.Aed mac Cathail Crobhdhearg O Connor, was captured by Cu Chonacht O Reilly from the Heremonian Dal Cuinn Ui Briuin Breifne kingdom of East Breifne who had his territory in Co. Cavan in Southern Ulster, an act carried out under the direction of his great - uncle, 116.Felim mac Cathail Crobhdhearg O Connor.

Niall O Connor from the Heremonian Dal Cuinn Ui Briuin Ai Ui Conchobhair Sept and 3 followers from the Ui Sechnusaig Sept were burnt alive in Co. Mayo in the mid - west of the Connacht Province by the English who laid siege to them led by Lewis Fitz Gerald the English Baron.

Maurice Fitz Gerald  the English Justicar in Ireland with a great force of English who were now also supported by the "ambitious" 116.Felim mac Cathail Crobhdhearg O Connor, besieged the Heremonian Dal Cuinn "northern" Ui Niall Cenel Conaill in their territory in Tir Conaill / Tyrconnell / Co. Donegal in the north - west of the Ulster Province and the Cenel Conaill were forced to "submit" and were personally forced to come to Drumhome and bring hostages.

1243 118.Teague / Tadhg mac Cathail Crobhdhearg O Connor,  the son of 117.Aed mac Cathail Crobhdhearg O Connor, was now released by Cu Chonacht O Reilly the Heremonian Dal Cuinn Ui Briuin East Breifne King who had his territory in Co. Cavan in the south of the Ulster Province and he went to Boyle in the Connacht Province where he gathered together followers from there to attack Mac Dermot from there, and captured Cormac Mac Dermot and his mother, Etain, who was the daughter of Mac Carthy Fingen, and he handed her over to Cu Chonnacht O Reilly as "ransom" for himself, but despite this placating gesture he was again taken as a "hostage," and once again imprisoned and all of his followers were slain.

Cathal O Connor, the son of Aed O Connor, who had been reared as a "foster" son by the Heremonian Dal Cuinn Ui Briuin Breifne Muintir Reilly who had their territory in their kingdom of East Breifne in Co. Cavan in Southern Ulster, turned against his fosterers, slaying Murtough Mac Nise, and also raided the Clann Fermaighe and the kingdom of Dartry and besieged the territory of Magh Rein in the Connacht Province, and conflict then also broke out between the Heremonian Dal Cuinn Ui Briuin Ai Ui Conchobhair O Connors and the Heremonian Dal Cuinn Ui Briuin East Breifne O Reillys over his previous actions.

Cavan in Southern Ulster. 117.Rory mac Cathail Crobhdhearg O Connor, who was his "brother," was also "drowned" at Curreen near Ballyleague and he was interred in the Clontuskert  monastery, while another brother, 117.Conor mac Cathail Crobhdhearg O Connor also "died" this year. 116.Felim mac Cathail Crobhdhearg O Connor the "unofficial" 61st King of Connacht who was their uncle, took his followers into the Heremonian Dal Cuinn Ui Briuin Breifne kingdom of East Breifne in Southern Ulster to besiege Cu Connacht O Reilly to avenge what he had done to 117.Teague mac Cathail Crobhdhearg O Connor his foster son and kinsman and he set up camp at Fenagh where the Co - Arb's foster son was also accidently "killed" by suffocation and the Co - Arb who was terribly upset went straight to 116.Felim mac Cathail Crobhdhearg O Connor and demanded the "blood fine" for his death, who told him to choose "whatever fine" was suitable to him on account of this. The Co- Arb demanded 116.Felim mac Cathail Crobhdhearg O Connor himself, and said that he would not leave until he received his fine, so 116.Felim mac Cathail Crobhdhearg O Connor then left the region with his followers, but the Co - Arb was determined to get his compensation and he followed 116.Felim mac Cathail Crobhdhearg to Heron's Ford / Ath na Cuirre on the Yellow River, which was then in flood. 116.Felim mac Cathail Crobhdhearg's followers decided that they would "break" up the holy house that was situated near the ford, intending to use the materials from it to construct a bridge to cross over the Yellow River, but during the demolition, Magnus O Connor was accidently "killed" by a falling beam from the roof, which they then took as a sign of "restitution." Magnus O Connor was interred outside of the church door, and a stone cross was constructed and set over his remains, but later on the Heremonian Dal Cuinn Ui Briuin Breifne O Rourkes from the kingdom of West Breifne took exception to it being there and "demolished" it altogether. Tuam was also burnt along with its 4 churches and all the houses, and the Catholic Archdeacon of Tuam was also "drowned" in Glaislinn Cluana.
