"O Donnell Mor"."
1241 AD This year was to see the beginning of the eventual "rise" of the Heremonian Dal Cuinn "northern" Ui Niaill Cenel Conaill O Donnells as a very important Sept in their "own right" who were from the Clan Dalaigh / Daly who had their territory in Tir Conaill / Tyrconnell / Co. Donegal / Dun na Gall (Fort of the Strangers) in the north - west of the Ulster Province under the leadership of Donnell / Domhnall Mor O Donnell - the Greater the Cenel Conaill King of Tir Conaill / Tyrconnell who was also now "in control" of adjacent territory in nearby Co. Fermanagh in the south - west of the Ulster Province, and on his "death" this year he would be interred at Assaroe / Esroe / Ballyshannon. Mael Sechlainn O Donnell, his son, was to then become the new Cenel Conaill King who would take the opportunity to "combine the forces of his Cenel Conaill Sept with his other Heremonian Dal Cuinn "northern" Ui Niaill kinsmen who were under the leadership of *116.Brian Catha Duin O Niall who had previously been "banished" by his close Cenel nEogain rival, 113.Donnell / Domhnall Mac Loughlin who had at that time become the overall Cenel nEogain King of Ulster. 113.Donnell Mac Loughlin despite his previous rise to overall authority in the Ulster Province, would be "slain" this year in the "Battle of Caim Eirge" along with 10 close members of his immediate aristocratic warrior Mac Loughlin Family / Derb Fine and also many of the other aristocratic warriors from the Cenel nEogain Sept, when he was to come up against *116.Brian Catha Duinn O Niall, over who now really had the "overall authority" in the overall Dal Cuinn "northern" Ui Niaill Cenel nEogain kingdom in the Ulster Province. 113.Donnell Mac Loughlin, had been a son of 112.Murtough Og - the Younger Mac Loughlin the previous King of Aileach in the Ulster Province who had died in 1196 AD, who had been a son of *111.Murtough Mor Mac Loughlin - the Greater who had been the previous 55th / 57th King of Aileach and 182nd King of Ireland - with opposition. As many of the aristocratic warrior Mac Loughlins were now "slain" during this particular conflict the Mac Loughlins were 'never again" to challenge their close Cenel nEogain kinsmen, the O Nialls, for the overall authority within the Cenel nEogain Septs and *116.Brian Catha Duinn O Niall now became the "new overall" Heremonian Dal Cuinn Cenel nEogain "northern" Ui Niaill King of Ulster.
Meanwhile Maurice Fitz Gerald / Muiris mac Gerailt the English Baron and English Justicar in Ireland, with his English followers and their Irish allies, including some of the O Connor's followers, besieged the Heremonian Dal Cuinn Ui Briuin Ai kingdom of Mag nAi in the Connacht Province, plundering both the territory of the O Flynns / Ui Flainn and Donough mac Dermot / Mheic Diarmada, and as a result of this particular English onslaught Mac Gilla Kelly / Mheic Giolla Cellaig was among those slain along with many others, and he also took his English followers to Ballylahan into the nearby Heberian Cianachta O Hara kingdom of Leyney in Co. Sligo in the north - west of the Connacht Province were Teague / Tadhg O Connor was forced to make "peace" with him, and he then plundered the Heremonian Dal Cuinn Ui Briuin Breifne kingdom of Dartry and the Clann Fermaighe.
