During the previous Centuries of Roman domination in Briton the Romans had never attempted to invade Ireland and the Western Roman Empire that was based in Rome was now to be under attack by the Barbarian tribes from the end of the 4th Century AD until the end of the 5th Century AD and the Roman Empire was now to go into decline, and the Dark Ages would soon begin, with the initial result the withdrawal of Roman occupation in Briton. and because of this early on during this Century Vortigern who was then to be the Chief of the Romano - Celts in the south - east of Briton / Albion was to allow in 3 shiploads of Teutonic German Saxons under Hengist to support him, placing them on the island of Thanet in the River Thames and also along his borders. The end result of this was to allow the German Teutonics themselves to really begin their invasion of Briton by either systematically killing off or expelling the Romano - Celts, as Hengist also convinced Vortigern to allow him to bring in a further 19 shiploads of Germanic Saxons. (Despite this new mass Germanic migration there had already been early Saxon settlements in Briton since the 4th Century). As the Romans withdrew, the remaining Romano - Celts soon found that they were left without any real overall protection of their own, and the Teutonic Germanic Angles, Jutes and Saxons were to eventually come into Briton in further great numbers and overcome the remaining resisting Romano - Celts completely. Vortigern was to eventually grant the Germanic Teutons land in Kent, which then gave them a solid permanent base and eventually in the Centuries that lie ahead there would be 7 Anglo - Saxon kingdoms created, East Anglia, Essex, Kent / Cean Tir / Celtic (headland) Cantuim / Roman, Mercia, Northumbria, Sussex and Wessex.

In Wales the Welsh / Cymru Chieftains were to establish the kingdoms of Powys and Gwynedd, with the last mentioned kingdom of Gwynedd taking in a large portion of the territory in the north - west of Wales and eventually becoming the strongest of these two with their leader also calling himself the Ceann / Cinn (head) / King of the Britons and in nearby Mercia the Germanic Tuetons would eventual become the Anglo - Saxon English and the Celtic Welsh were to be in constant conflict with them there.
