*105.Brian
Boru
(Ui mBriain) as
the Heberian Dal gCais 41st King
of Cashel / Munster now used the
Viking ships that he had under his control, that were situated on the River Shannon, to
dominate the territories of the Heremonian Dal Cuinn
Ui Briuin
O
Connor Kings in
the east of the Connacht
Province, and also the Heremonian
Ui Briuin Breifne O Rourkes
the Kings of
West Breifne,
and their kinsmen the
Ui Briuin Breifne O Reillys
there
who were the Kings of
East Breifne as the
O Rourkes
had their kingdom in
Northern
Connacht, and
the O Reillys in what
is now the adjoining territory of Co. Cavan
in Southern Ulster. From the River Shannon he could also
access the western part of the territory of *107. Malachy
11 the
Gaelic
Milesian
Heremonian
Dal Cuinn
"southern" Ui Niaill
174th
King of Ireland in
Meath
/ Midhe
in Northern Leinster from the eastern bank.
Although
*105.Brian
Boru and
*107.Malachy 11 were now often in
dispute,
it was always settled by negotiation.
From this year on the town of
Swords in Co. Dublin in
the north - east of Southern Leinster was to be burned and devastated
10 times up
until 1166 AD.
995 / 6 AD
109.Gilla
Patrick
mac
Donough
1st
/
Padraig
mac
Donnchad the
Heremonian
Ui
Laoghaire Ui Connla
King of Ossory / Co. Kilkenny
who had his territory in the south - west of Southern Leinster,
was slain this year,
who was a
son of
108.Donough /
Donnchad the
previous King of Ossory
as he was
killed
by Donndubhan, a son of Imhar, and Donnell
/ Domhnall, a son of Faelan,
who was the
Heremonian Ui Cobhthaigh Ui Felim Deisi King
in nearby
Co. Waterford
in the south - east of the
Munster Province.
995
AD *105.Brian
Boru the Heberian Dal gCais
King of
Northern Munster / Thomond and the
41st King of Cashel / Munster had previously received support
from *107.Malachy 11
the Gaelic Milesian Heremonian Dal Cuinn
"southern" Ui Niaill
174th King of Ireland to fight against the
continuing Viking threat, but he was now determined to realise his own overall
authority to organize Ireland
as a whole under his leadership and *107.Malachy
11 now feeling further threatened by
*105.Brian
Boru in his ever improving position as the
41st King of Cashel / Munster,
made the fatal decision in deciding to uproot one of the
two sacred Oak trees (bile) at Magh Adhair
(The
Crowning Place of
the Dal gCais /
Dalcassian Kings
of Thomond and cut it into pieces. While this
disrespectful attack was taking place
*105.Brian Boru was away
re - asserting his own authority to the east over the Heremonian
Ui Laoghaire Ui Connla kingdom of
Ossory / Co. Kilkenny
in the south - west of Southern Leinster
in Mogha's Half. Because of
*107.Malachy’s
sacrilege
of Magh Adhair,
*105.Brian
Boru
now laid siege to *107.Malachy's
own personal Heremonian Dal Cuinn
"southern" Ui
Niaill territory in
Co. Westmeath in the
south -
west of
Northern Leinster, which was in reality an
attack on the High Kingship itself and
*107.Malachy 11 would be eventually forced to
share Ireland with
*105.Brian Boru, into
Conn's Half / Leth
Cuinn and Mogha's Half
/ Leth Mogha.
From now on there would
then be peace
among the Gaelic Milesian aristocratic
Heremonian Dal Cuinn and the
Heberian Tuaths (Family regions).
The Vikings from out of their settlement in Dublin in Co. Dublin in the north - east of Southern Leinster continued their raids to the north into *107.Malachy 11's territory in the Heremonian Dal Cuinn "southern" Ui Niaill kingdom of Meath / Midhe in the south of Northern Leinster, and this forced him once again to retake Dublin for the third time and on this occasion he also gained further authority over the Vikings there by securing their Ring of Thor and their Sword of Carlus, which were their symbols of Viking Norse supremacy there. The Vikings who were now actually in the settlement in Dublin / Dubh Linn (Dark Pool) had also previously been weakened by some of the actions of the other Heremonian Dal Cuinn Ui Niaill Septs.
996 AD The
Heremonian Dal Cuinn Colla Da Crioch Airthir
Ui Echdach Sept who were from the
Clann Sinaig now held the Abbacy of
Armagh.
997 AD *107.Malachy
11
the Gaelic Milesian
Heremonian Dal Cuinn
"southern"
Ui Niaill
Clann Cholmain 174th High King of Ireland
had a meeting
with
*105.Brian
Boru
the
Heberian Dal gCais
41st King
of Cashel / Munster near Clonfert in
Co. Galway in the south - west of the Connacht
Province where they made an official arrangement were
by
Malachy 11
agreed to control the north
(Conn's Half) and
105.Brian Boru the south
(Mogha's Half) and to this end *107.Malachy 11 handed over to
*105.Brian Boru the hostages he held from the
Viking Norse kingdom of Dublin
and Southern Leinster, which were
in
Mogha's Half. This arrangement was to prove to be only
temporary as *105.Brian
Boru had further ambitions
to combine all of the Irish
Septs under his personal command, to try and end the threat of the
Viking menace altogether, although this would further compromise the
authority of *107.Malachy 11, even though they had marched together
previously against the
Viking Norse in Dublin he wanted it to end.
998 AD *107.Malachy 11 the Heremonian Dal Cuinn southern Ui Niaill 174th King of Ireland now had opposition to his overall rule in Ireland as he now only ruled the northern part of Ireland (Leth Cuinn / Conn's Half), while *105.Brian Boru the Heberian Dal gCais 41st King of Cashel / Munster ruled the southern part (Leth Mogha / Mogha's Half / Southern Ireland, which also took in Dublin and the Norse Town there in Southern Leinster. In return *105.Brian Boru handed over the hostages to *107.Malachy 11 that he had previously taken from the Heremonian Dal Cuinn Septs in the Connacht Province, which was part of Conn's Half.
999 AD *107.Malachy 11 the Gaelic Milesian Heremonian Dal Cuinn "southern" Ui Niaill Clann Cholmain 40th King of Meath / Midhe and 174th King of Ireland, now - with opposition had his own Clann Cholmain Sept's territory in the south - west of Northern Leinster in Co. Westmeath, and was now in reality only the King of Conn's Half / Leth Conn / Northern Ireland. The Clann Cholmain Sept was initially descended from 94.Colman Mor the great - grandson of 91.Conall Cremthainne, one of the 8 sons of *90.Niall of the Nine Hostages the previous Gaelic Milesian 126th King of Tara / Ireland) (Ui Niaill.) *107.Malachy 11 was now more then ever desperate to ensure that he had complete overall control in Conn's Half, and to this end he decided to destroy the Lia Ailbe Stone, which was the chief monument of his main opposition in Meath / Midhe, his kinsmen, the Silo nAedo Slaine Sept, who had their territory in Brega in the south - east of Northern Leinster. They were his Heremonian Dal Cuinn "southern" Ui Niaill kinsmen, descended from his ancestor, 94.Colman Mor's younger half - brother, *94.Aed Slaine a previous Gaelic Milesian Heremoniaqn King of Ireland, as both Dal Cuinn "southern" Ui Niaill Septs had previously shared the Kingships as they were both descended from 91.Conall Cremthainne.
By
now all
of the Gaelic Milesian
Septs
had submitted to
*105.Brian Boru,
the Heberian Dal gCais King of Mogha's Half
/ Southern Ireland, except for the two
Heremonian Dal Cuinn "northern"
Ui Niaill Septs, the
Cenel nEogain (91.Eogan)
and the
Cenel Conaill (91.Conall Gulban
who had been another 2 of the
8 sons of
*90.Niall -
of the Nine Hostages the previous
Gaelic Milesian
126th King of Ireland) and also among those who had also submitted were the
Vikings under
Sitric Silkbeard in
Dublin, and
his uncle,
110.Mael
Morda the
110.Gormley / Gormlaith the Heremonian Ui Laoghaire Ui Lughaidh Cu Corb Ui Dunlainge Ui Faelan Princess, known to the Vikings as Kormloda, who was a sister to 110.Mael Morda the Heremonian Cu Corb 45th King of Leinster had at first been married to Aulaf / Olaf Cuaran the previously deceased Danish Viking King in Dublin, to whom she had produced Sitric Silkbeard who was now the half - Viking King of Dublin. After the death of Olaf Cuaran, *107.Malachy 11 the Gaelic Milesian Heremonian Dal Cuinn 174th King of Ireland had also married her to try and unite the Heremonian Septs in the whole of the Leinster Province and to also gain further control in Southern Leinster. She had an intolerable attitude and he had since cast her aside as she was always a real troublemaker, this was despite the fact that he hadinitially put her half - Viking son, Sitric Silkbeard in as the Viking King of Dublin. *105.Brian Boru now married her for the very same reasons, to try and unite the Septs in Mogha's Half and end her interference in the affairs of Southern Leinster, as she had been the real cause as to why her son Sitric Silkbeard and her brother,110.Mael Morda the Heremonian Ui Dunlainge 45th King of Leinster had rebelled against 105.Brian Boru in the first place. This union should have united all the factions in Mogha's Half, as she was also the daughter of 109.Murrough / Murchad the previous Heremonian Cu Corb Ui Dunlainge Ui Faelain 41st King of Leinster. 110.Mael Morda’s personal territory was previously held by the Laigin / Lin Celts after whom the Leinster (Linster) Province was named, who had their fortress at Ferns in Co. Wexford in the south - east of Southern Leinster. 110.Gormflaith gave birth to a son by 105.Brian Boru who he named, *106.Donough / Donnchad who would become the Heberian Dal gCais 42nd King of Cashel / Munster, and a daughter 106.Sadb who was to marry 110.Cian, the son of 109.Molloy / Mael Muadh who had been the previous 40th King of Cashel / Munster, and they produced 111.Mahon who was to become the direct male line ancestor of the O Mahonys in Southern Munster. In an act of further goodwill towards her, *105.Brian also restored Sitric Silkbeard, her half - Viking son, back in control of Dublin, and her brother, 110.Mael Morda to the Kingship of Leinster hoping this would settle her down.
*105.Brian
Boru
then had another
revolt occur in
Southern Leinster, which was backed up by the
Vikings in
Dublin under Sitric
Silkbeard who had strongly objected to submitting to
105.Brian, who marched on Southern Leinster and defeated them
at Glenn Mamain in Co. Dublin,
and then marched into Dublin itself where he stayed for a
month to ensure that he would retained his overall authority in
all of
Mogha's Half.
110.Mael Morda the
Ui Dunlainge
45th King of Leinster along with his nephew, Sitric
Silkbeard the half - Viking
King of Dublin had to finally accept
*105.Brian
Boru as their
over - king, and to this end they now gave over hostages to ensure their future good behaviour. Feeling more secure now to challenge
*107.Malachy
11
for the overall
Kingship of Ireland,
to bring about
total unity in
Ireland
under his leadership, and an end to the constant Viking disruptions, he
called on those he now saw as his allies to support his push for the
High Kingship of Ireland.
Among his allies now were the Vikings in Dublin, the whole
of Southern
Leinster, and some of the other
Viking
warriors and their Chieftains, and together with his aristocratic warriors in
the
Munster Province, Ossory
and Southern Connacht he
now laid
siege
to *107.Malachy 11
the Gaelic Milesian Heremonian Dal Cuinn 174th King of Ireland
- in
opposition, at
the fortress of the "southern" Ui Niaill in the
Midlands / Midhe
/ Meath
in
Northern
Leinster,
but after a section of his followers were defeated in a skirmish,
*105.Brian Boru
decided it would be better to withdraw on this occassion.
*107.Malachy 11
the Gaelic Milesian Heremonian Dal Cuinn
"southern"
Ui Niaill
Clann Cholmain 40th King
of
Meath
and
174th King of Ireland
- in opposition who was now only in control of
Conn's Half /
Leth Cuinn then called on his
Heremonian
Dal Cuinn "northern"
U Niaill kinsmen, the
Cenel nEogain and the
Cenel Conaill to give him their
support against
*105.Brian
Boru, but it was not forthcoming as
106.Aedh O Niall
of
Craeb Tulcha
who was now the
Heremonian Dal Cuinn "northern" Ui Niaill
Cenel nEogain 39th King
of Aileach
stated categorically that he,
"
Was not willing to go into battle against the
Heberian Dal gCais
over sovereignty" so 107.Malachy 11 decided it was then
prudent to concede to *105.Brian
Boru without doing
battle and causing further bloodshed to the Irish
Septs.
Between the 8th - 10th Century
AD there were still to be 4 Cashel / Munster Kings inaugurated on the
Rock of Cashel in
Co. Tipperary in the north - east of
the
Munster Province.
