HAEMORRAGES - HORSES: Internally: Inspect the Mucous Membranes particularly the Gums and if dead White in colour this means Internal Bleeding. Mild - Treatment: 1 x Tablespoon of Vitamin C in the feed daily to strengthen the small Blood Vessels. Continue for a few days after the Bleeding has stopped. Also give Vitamin B12 Injection daily (10 -12 cc in the Muscle) until the Horse shows improvement.
HAEMORRHOIDS - See also Constipation - Varicose Veins of the Anus - * The Anal Veins drain Blood away from the Anal area and expand - dilate - during defecation and shrink back to normal after. Repeated straining associated with Constipation interferes with the normal functioning of the Veins culminating in them becoming permanently swollen causing pain, itching and rupture leading on to Bleeding. During Pregnancy the Foetus places pressure on all the Veins of the Lower Abdomen. Symptoms: Engorged & Inflamed Veins in the Anal Passage, which create tenderness & pain with some bleeding. Prevent Haemorrhoids occurring by preventing Constipation. Eat a high Fibre Diet including plenty of Fruit and Vegetables and drink plenty of non - Alcoholic Fluids.5 Fibrous Fruits and 5 Fibrous Vegetables a day. Use Olive and Cold Pressed Linseed Oils in the Diet. Always go when "nature calls” never ignore. Straining leads to Haemorrhoids. Do not sit longer then necessary but squat and raise the feet on a small stool in a more natural position. Herbs: Aloe Gel, Butcher's Broom, Comfrey, Essential Oils, Herbs, Horse Chestnut, Plantain, Psyllium Husks, & Witch Hazel – Externally. Aloe Gel: is Astringent and assists to heal wounds and can be applied topically to the Anal area and if ingested it acts as a Laxative. For quick results drink 1/2 x cup of Aloe Juice 3 times a day until flare - ups have cleared. (It is very Bitter and may need something to change the taste to suite.) Be aware that the Yellow Juice from the inner part of the Leaf is a powerful Laxative if preparing from the plant itself. Or you can use 0.05 - 0.2gm of Powdered Aloes / Dry Extract in a cup of Tea – N.B: May turn the Urine red.) Or apply the Yellow Gel from the Leaf directly to the Haemorrhoids. Or add a little Gel - a spoonful or two to some Prune Juice or other Juice to suite. Butcher's Broom: is a woody herb used for Venous Conditions such as Haemorrhoids & Varicose Veins as it contains Ruscogenins, which have anti - Inflammatory & Vasoconstricting properties. Take 5 x rounded teaspoons of the Root in a cup of boiling Water for Internal use and sweeten the Tea with Honey. For Topical application use a Tincture of the herb prepared with Alcohol. Comfrey: is rich in Allantoin a wound healing chemical that is anti - Inflammatory, stimulates the Immune System and speeds up the formation of new Cells. Moisten Powdered Comfrey with Vegetable Oil and apply as a Paste or pound the Leaves to soften the fuzzy hairs and apply directly. Essential Oils: 1 - 2 drops to Vegetable Oil and apply to Anal area. Use an Emollient Oil, such as Almond Oil as a base and add either Cypress Juniper, Lavender, Lemon or Rosemary Essential Oil drops. N.B: Do not ingest Essential Oils as they can be Toxic. Haemorrhoid Options: Make a Tea for topical application using Alumroot / Astringent, Golden Seal - Vasoconstricting, Mullein - Soothing, Slippery Elm Bark / Soothing and Witch Hazel - Astringent. Use any amount to suite. Topical Salve: Use Calendula, Chamomile, Plantain, St. John's Wort and Yarrow and apply after every Bowel movement. Mix 1 x teaspoon of each herb in powdered form with enough Emollient Oil / Almond to form a Paste and apply. Horse Chestnut Bark: contains several chemicals that treat Haemorrhoids, Aesculin and Aescin that strengthen Blood Vessel Walls, reducing the risk of further Haemorrhoids and also has anti - Inflammatory benefits. Make a Tea to apply to the Haemorrhoids or make a Poultice by moistening Powdered Bark or Seeds and apply the resulting Paste directly. Plantain: used as a Haemorrhoid remedy as it too contains Allantoin - Can be made into a Poultice and apply to affected area. Psyllium Husks: produces less pain, bleeding and Itching. Take 4 - 10 x teaspoons of this herb a day for Constipation. It absorbs water in the Gut and swells up considerably adding Bulk to the stool and triggers Muscle contractions. Drink plenty of Fluids at least 8 glasses a day of either Water or Juice. N.B: If any Allergic reactions occur stop using. Witch Hazel: is a Soothing, Cooling Astringent that assists to relieve the pain and itching of Haemorrhoids. - Make a Compress using the herb and leave on the affected area.
HAIR - SCALP - N.B: Hair reflects the Inner Internal health. Blond: use Chamomile and Lemon. Damaged: Bleaching, Conditioners, Dyeing, Perming & Shampoos all contain chemicals that create damage. Dandruff: Darken: use Rosemary, Sage and Walnut Leaves. Deficiency Signs: some forms of Eczema, Fatigue, poor Hair growth, Loss of Hair and poor Skin growth. Dull - Dry: Falls out easily - low in Protein, Fatty & Amino Acids, use Fish Oil, Evening Primrose Oil & Silica. Grow: Chamomile and Yarrow. Healthy: Para - Aminobenzoic Acid - PABA prevents the Hair from greying and maintains. Food Sources: Brewer's Yeast, Dairy Foods, fresh Fruit, Whole Grains, green Vegetables and Wheat Germ. Lack Lustre - Split Ends: a Pro - Vitamin form of B5, Panthenol, mends and attracts moisture into the inner core of the structure of Hair but it must be used every few days and should be contained in a Conditioner for best results and left on each time for 20 minutes. Use a natural Shampoo such as Solid Pine. Or use 1 x Tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar or the Juice of 1 Lemon in a cup of Water in the final rinse as it acts as a Conditioner as well as a treatment for Dandruff and restores the natural Acid Mantle of the Scalp. Loss: Use a slant board or Yoga postures, massage the Scalp with Aloe Vera Gel, Nettle rinse, a few drops of Rosemary Oil, Ginger Root Juice or Cayenne Tincture. Redden: use Henna. Shine: Horsetail and Sage. Thickness: Parsley. Beneficial Herbs: Dill: used as a Tonic due to it being rich in Minerals especially Potassium and Sulphur. Nettle: Rinses are effective for Dandruff and strengthens and thickens Hair and should be used regularly - 10 handfuls in 5 Litres of water heated gently - N.B: Do not boil and let stand for 5 minutes and strain. Rosemary: Rinses are effective for Dandruff. Thyme: by adding Essential Oil of Thyme to warmed Olive Oil and use as a stimulating rub if Conditions are persistent. Eat more Eggs, Cabbage, Legumes and Oats. Remove Sugar from the diet. Internally: Comforting and Tonic Teas.
HANGOVER - Symptoms: Combination of Head Ache, Fuzzy Head, Depression and Nausea.
Cause: Mostly due to the Liver being overloaded and unable to carry out its proper function. A mild version of Alcohol withdrawal syndrome that causes Delirium Tremens / DTs in Alcoholics as the Headache is prompted in part by Alcohol's relaxing effect on the Blood Vessels. As they open up more Blood flows through them and this causes a sensation of warmth felt when drinking but if they open too much they trigger the Nerves that create the pain. As a Diuretic, Alcohol contributes to Fluid Loss and creates thirst and this adds to Head pain while Nausea & Vomiting are caused by the Alcohol having an irritating effect on the Stomach and its many effects on the Central Nervous System. Fatigue and the general lousy all over feeling results from Alcohol's Depressant effect and a build up of Acids / Acidosis in the Blood. Acetaldehyde may accumulate in the Blood leading to flushing and Additives & Impurities in the Alcohol / Congeners contribute to the Hangovers. The darker the Alcohol the worse the Hangover as Vodka and White Wine contain few Congeners, while Bourbon, Scotch and Red Wine are loaded with them. Stop drinking Alcohol and start drinking non - Alcoholic beverages to stay well - hydrated and wash the Acids out of the Blood. Drink Apple Juice and eat Cabbage & Grapefruit. Take Bitters throughout the day to stimulate the Liver to hurry along detoxification and drink Chamomile and Peppermint Teas. Variegated Thistle Seed will protect the Liver. Morning After Tea: Put 1 x teaspoon of dried Vervain and ˝ x teaspoon of Lavender Flowers in a pot and add 2 1/2 cups of boiling Water and cover to keep in the Volatile Oils, steep for 10 minutes, strain and sweeten with a little Honey. Sip the mixture as often as you like during the day until feeling better. Herbs: Cabbage, Chamomile, Cinchona, Fructose, Ginkgo, Grapefruit, Hangover Herbs, Kudzu, Lavender, Peppermint, Variegated Thistle Seed, Vervain, Thyme, Wintergreen and Willow. Cinchona: is a Bitter Bark that gives Tonic Water its flavour and contains Quinine - Other similar herbs are Angostura, Dandelion, Gentian & Mugwort. Tea: Add a few drops of Angostura Bitters to a cup of boiling water or make a Tea from any of these herbs and add Roselle and Tamarind to cut the Bitter flavour as these too assist with Hangover. Fructose: is Fruit Sugar that can speed up the Body's Metabolism of Alcohol by 25%. Ginseng contains 0.5% of Fructose and is used for the Condition but is expensive. Tea: include Honey in the morning Tea as its more then 40% Fructose or eat Dates which are 30% Fructose. Gingko Seeds: contain an Enzyme that speeds up the Body's Metabolism of Alcohol. Hangover herbs: Basil, Black Pepper, Caraway, Cinnamon, Coriander, Forsythia, Ginger, Gotu Kola, Honeysuckle, Lavender, Lemon Grass, Onion, Pennyroyal, Peppermint, Plantain, Poppy Seeds, Rosemary, Rue, Tea and Yarrow. The Mints contain potent anti - Oxidants that assist to prevent some of the Cellular - level damage that is caused by Alcohol. Juices or Teas made from Red Roselle are also useful or a beverage made from the pulp of Tamarind or mix together and sweeten with high Fructose Honey. Another is Vegetable Juice with a bit of Hot Pepper sauce as all Vegetables used contain anti - Oxidants and Hot Pepper Capsaicin - a pain killer. Onion Soup is also useful and another source of Fructose. Kudzu Flowers & Roots: contains Acetaldehyde that causes Hangover Headaches and Nausea while imbibing instead of the next day and this may encourage you to cut back on the drinking. Take 1 - 2 Capsules of the dried herb with your first drink. Tea: Take as a Tea the morning after and it may also provide some relief. Thyme: Wintergreen and Willow: Wintergreen is Aromatic and contains Methyl - Salicylate related to Aspirin which may assist to clear Hangover Headache or mix with Willow Bark that also contains Salicylates. Cherry Birch Bark is also a source of Salicylates and can be made into a Tea and add as much Hot Pepper Sauce as the Taste Buds can bear as it contains Capsaicin a pain killer. Another Aspirin type herb blend is 2 x parts each of Passionflower, White Willow and Wood Betony and 1 x part Lavender and steep the mixture in 1 cup of boiling Water. N.B: Do not use Aspirin type herbs if you are allergic to Aspirin.
