HEART - Burn - Also see Indigestion - The Muscular opening from the Oesophagus into the Stomach does not work properly as this set of Muscles / Lower Oesophageal Sphincter / LES - opens to allow food into the Stomach and then closes to keep Stomach Acids from washing up into the Oesophagus. With Heartburn the LES do not close completely with a burning feeling in the Chest that is actually Acid burning the Oesophagus. 30% of Adults experience it at least once a month and Diet and Lifestyle contribute to it. Eating too quickly, on the run, standing up or wolfing it down without chewing thoroughly, Fried Foods, Saturated Fats, Sugar, Alcohol, Cigarettes and Coffee also contribute. Dill: Soothes the Digestive Tract and treats Heartburn - Crush a few teaspoons of Seeds and make a Tea. N.B: If Pregnant only use occasionally. Fennel: used to soothe the Digestive Tract and treat Heartburn. Gentian: can be taken 30 minutes before meals to prevent Heartburn and aid Digestion. Tea: Simmer 1 x teaspoon of the herb in a cup or two of water for about 30 minutes and add a sprinkle of Cayenne & Ginger to it. Liquorice: Deglycyrrhizinated Liquorice / DGHL treats both Heartburn & Ulcers of the Stomach and Oesophagus as it is an anti - Spasmodic and reduces production of Stomach Acid and decreases Heartburn - Can use up to 3 x cups a day.
