HYPERTHYROIDISM - Graves Disease - * The Thyroid Gland is located in the Neck just behind and below the Adam's Apple and produces Thyroid Hormones to regulate the Metabolism in every Cell of the Body. Too much Thyroid Hormone is an Auto - Immune Condition. Symptoms: Enlarged Thyroid Gland, Bulging Eyes, Rapid Pulse, Profuse Sweating, Fatigue, an increased Metabolic rate leading to substantial weight loss and Neurological symptoms such as Irritability, Fine Muscle Tremors & Restlessness. Cause: A Hormonal Imbalance sometimes involving the Blood level of Thyroid Stimulating Hormone / TSH - as there are abnormal High Blood levels of Thyroid Hormones circulating in the Body that are secreted by the Thyroid Gland located in the Neck just behind and below the Adam's Apple. N.B: Many Allergic type Diseases may in fact be due to Thyroid Disorders. Function: Levels of circulating Thyroid Hormones depend on availability of Iodine, the levels of TSH released by the Pituitary Gland located in the centre of the Brain and the health of the Thyroid Gland itself. Levels are then further regulated by another part of the Brain, the Hypothalamus and as TSH levels increase the levels of Thyroid Hormone also increase until a balance is reached. If the Thyroid is malfunctioning it attempts to regulate Hormone levels by releasing more and this throws the system out of whack.

Herbs: Broccoli, Bugle Weed, Kelp / Seaweed Meal, Lemon Balm, Radish, Self - Heal and Verbena. Broccoli: contains natural Isothiocyanates, which restrain the Thyroid from producing too much Hormone. Bugle Weed: used to treat Thyroid Conditions as it inhibits Iodine Metabolism and reduces the amount of Hormone produced by the Thyroid Cells. The Leaf Extracts are more active then the Root Extracts. Used as a Alcohol Tincture rather then a Tea in combination with Lemon Balm and has mild effects and are best used in the early stages of the Condition. Combat Tea: Mix 2 x teaspoons of Lemon Balm with 1 x teaspoon of Bugle Weed and add Mint, Rosemary, Self - Heal and Verbena to taste and drink regularly. Kelp - Seaweed: Contains many Minerals & Trace Elements including Iodine sprinkle on the food as Seasoning. Lemon Balm / Melissa: used for treating this Condition as it causes a decrease in Blood & Pituitary levels of TSH and reduces Thyroid Hormone production. Radish: all of the cruciferous Vegetables gently suppress Thyroid Hormone production but Radish is the best -  included among these are Broccoli, Brussels Sprouts, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Kale, Mustard Greens, Radishes, Rutabagas & Turnips. Self - Heal: 1/4 pound serving of Self - Heal Greens with Bugle Weed Tubers spiced with Basil, Oregano, Rosemary and Spearmint contain Rosmarinic Acid that assists to suppress Thyroid Hormone production. Verbena: often called Vervain has properties similar to Self - Heal and the Extract has been shown to suppress Thyroid Hormone production by influencing levels of TSH in the Body.

HYPOGLYCAEMIA - Low Blood Sugar.  N.B: Eat small meals. Symptoms: Head Aches, Loss of short term Memory, Dizziness and& Lethargy. The Symptoms can be relieved by taking Sugar but the process will repeat itself and the symptoms will return. Cause: Usually consumption of refined Carbohydrates  / Sugar in excess over a long period, which gives a short term high energy lift associated with the increase in Blood Sugar / Glucose. The Body reacts quickly to the increase and then overreacts reducing the Blood Sugar below the normal requirement for the Body. Eat mainly complex Carbohydrates such as Beans, Brown Rice, Lentils, Millet, Oats and Whole Grain Pasta. A diet low in refined Carbohydrates and Fat and slightly higher in Protein will over time return the Blood Sugar levels to normal with no added Sugar in drinks or food - Avoid Sugar and White Flour products. The Thyroid Gland is located in the Neck just behind and below the Adam's Apple and produces Thyroid Hormones to regulate the Metabolism in every Cell of the Body - having too little is Hyperthyroidism. Women are 8 times more likely than Men to have this Condition especially among older Women. Symptoms: Depression, Head Aches, Lethargy, Low Body Temperature, unusual sensitivity to Cold, decreased Libido, difficulty in losing Weight, dry Skin, painful Menstrual Periods, slow Reflexes, Goiter and recurrent Infections.
