They contain only Genetic material DNA or RNA surrounded by a Protein capsule and do not ingest food, breathe Oxygen or eliminate wastes as all they do is reproduce after they have infected susceptible Cells. Anti - Biotics are generally useless against Viruses although they work actively against Bacteria. It contains 3 compounds Caffeic Acid, Chicoric Acid and Echinacin and its Root Extracts act like Interferon, the Body's own Anti - Viral compound enhancing T - Cell Mitogenesis, Phagocytosis and increased natural killer Cell activity. Also Echinacea as an Immune stimulant assists the Body to defend itself against Viral infection, which could be due to one of its compounds, Properdin that activates a specific part of the Immune System / the complementary pathway - responsible for sending disease fighting White Blood Cells into infected areas. Another compound in it Lipophilic Amides and Polar Caffeic Acid derivatives may also be responsible for its Immune stimulant activity while Chicoric Acid inhibits Integrase, an Enzyme important to Viral reproduction.
