SPEARMINT / Common Green Mint / see Mint / Mentha viridis / spicata /  Northern Hemisphere - From the same genus as Peppermint. Actions: Diuretic and Pleasant Stimulant and one of the best Carminatives.

Cultivation: A strongly growing perennial herb. Products: Leaves & Oil used.   

Used to Treat:  Aged and Young: Specific. Bath: as a Spray.  Colic: suitable for Babies and Children. Clothes: add 1 - 2 drops of Spearmint Oil or Concentrate to cotton balls and place among those stored.  Digestion: aids but is not as strong. Face: used as Spearmint Water for a refreshing Facial Tonic.  Gall - StonesHeart - BurnInsect Bites and Stings: rub Bee and Wasp stings with the Leaves to reduce Inflammation and Redness. Mouth - Wash: Spearmint Oil and Essence are used.  Swooning: Spearmint Water put into smelling bottles to prevent.  Teeth: Spearmint Oil and Essence are used as ingredients in Toothpastes.  Tooth - Powder: to remove plaque and stains - 2 Tablespoons of fresh Spearmint Leaves, 2 tablespoons of fresh Sage Leaves, 3 - 4 Tablespoons of Sea Salt. Put all in a bowl and crush to a fine powder and place in a warm oven until well baked and fairly hard and remove and pulverize a second time and store in an airtight container.

Add 14ml of Apple Cider Vinegar and use once daily for 1 - 3 days.  Vaginitis: combine the dried herb mix of 25% of this herb, Golden Seal 25%, Chaparral 25% and Echinacea 25% and fill "00" Gelatin Capsules with the mix and take 2 Capsules 3 times a day before meals.

STEVIA / Paraguay Sweet Herb / Stevia rebaudiana. Asteraceae / Paraguay - South America. NB: Does not lower Blood Glucose levels in normal people.  May assist with a mild strengthening of the Heart and Vascular System. May assist with inhibiting the growth and reproduction of Bacteria and other infectious Micro - Organisms leading to lower incidence of Colds and Flu. May assist to improve the overall Gastro - Intestinal function. ST. JOHN’S WORT / Hypericim perforatum / Britain / Wild. NB: Do not use if spending time in bright Sunlight. SWEET BAY / Laurus nobilis / Lauraceae / Bay Laurel / Grecian Laurel / Noble Laurel / Roman Laurel / Royal Laurel.  Cultivation: Perennial evergreen shrub that can grow into a large 12m tree from a broad base to a cone point with glossy, dark - green, oval Leaves pointed at both ends 5 - 10cm long with small, cream coloured flowers with yellow stamens in Spring and then black / purple berries. Likes full Sun with some shade in a well drained. Moderately rich soil and is sensitive to extreme heat and cold temperatures. Propagated as Nursery plants (recommended), cuttings and seeds with the cuttings taken in early Summer slow to put down roots and also the seeds do not germinate readily. Product: Bay Leaves, fresh or dried are excellent for flavouring for Soups, Stews, Casseroles or boiled, baked or steamed dishes of Fish, Meat or Poultry. A fresh Bay Leaf, Spray each off Marjoram, Parsley & Thyme are tied together and put in Soups, Stews and Casseroles and removed after cooking. 

 

SWEET CHERVIL / Giant Chervil / Myrrh / Sweet Chervil.  

SWEET CICELY / Giant Chervil / Myrrh / Sweet Chervil / Myrrhis odorata / Carrot Umbelliferae / British Isles. Actions: Carminative, Expectorant and Tonic for younger Females. Cultivation: An erect perennial herb 60 - 100cm high with a fleshy taproot and thin, branching stems bearing soft, lacy Leaves as finely cut pairs of leaflets with small, white flowers on terminal clusters with 25 - 25cm green - ridged seeds that turn dark brown. Likes shade to semi - shade in a well drained moist, moderately rich soil. Propagated by divisions, and seeds with the seeds sown in clumps 60cm apart in Autumn & Spring and thin out to the strongest seedling or divide the old Roots in Winter or early Spring. Has a Liquorice flavour and the Leaves or Seeds can be added to Salads and the fresh young Roots are grated in Salads or cooked as a Vegetable. Products: Leaves, Root & Seeds used.
