RAINBOW FARMS AUSTRALIA
8th
Century AD
From 700 AD until 900
A.D. the language period in
Ireland would be known as
Old Irish.
During this Century,
Nimidas was held, which was derived from the word, "Nemeton," which is
plural for "Holy Places of the Woods," where Seasonal gatherings of the
Irish Septs
from each Tuath / Family region occurred when the Earthen
Mounds throughout the
various territories were to be used more in Ireland
for gatherings of the various Irish Septs instead of for
their burials. The
"Senchas Mor" / Great Laws were written down also
during this Century.
North - Eastern
Ulster:
in the territory of the kingdom of the
Ulaid
/ Ulidia the order of the Septs there remained basically the same as in the
previous Century, with the Celtic Gaelic Milesian
Heremonian Ui Cobhthaigh
Ui Conaire Dal Riada Septs still in the
north of Co.
Antrim below the
Giant's Causeway and Larne, and the Celtic
Gaelic Milesian
Irian Dal
nAraidi Sept were still below them between Larne and Antrim.
The Celtic Herremonian Dal Fiatach Sept were still
further down near
Belfast
in Co. Antrim, and the Iran
Ui Echach
Cobo Sept, who were a branch of
the Irian Dal nAraidi Sept, were below them to the
east of Co. Monaghan, while the
Heremonian Ui Cobhthaigh Ui
Felim Dal Cuinn 3 Colla
Conaill Muirtheimne
Sept had their territory below them above
Dundalk.
Northern
Ulster:
The original
3 Celtic
Gaelic Milesian Heremonian
Ui Cobhthaigh Ui Felim
Dal Cuinn "northern"
Ui Niaill Septs descended from
3 of the 8 sons of
*90.Niall
- of the Nine Hostages
the previous
126th King of Tara / Ireland,
namely, 91.Eogan ancestor of the Cenel nEogain, 91.Conall
"Gulban" ancestor of theCenel Conaill
and 91.Enda ancestor of the
Cenel nEnnae,
had by now basically combined their 3 Septs into 2 main
"northern" Ui Niaill
Septs, the Cenel nEogain
and the Cenel Conaill. In the central -
north of the
Ulster
Province in their own particular territory were also the
Gaelic Milesian Heberian Cianacht Sept
descended through 85.Cian at Keenaught near
Coleraine, and below them the Heremonian Dal Cuinn 3 Colla
Fir Li Sept, and below them still their
kinsmen the Colla Da Crioch Ui
Thuirtre Sept to the west of Antrim. Further to the south between
Derry and Omagh were the "northern"
Ui Niaill
Cenel nEogain
Septs descending from 91.Eogan, and the
Cenel nEnnae Sept descending from his brother
91.Enda in the north - west above Dungloe near
Raphoe in Tir Conaill
now known as Co. Donegal.
The Cenel Conaill Septs descending
from 91.Conall "Gulban" would be more predominant
until 734 AD, and they had their territory in the west adjoining the
territory of both their kinsmen the Cenel nEnnae
and the Cenel nEogain. The
Heremonian Ui Cobhthaigh Ui
Felim Dal Cuinn Colla Da Crioch
Ui Cremthainn Sept in Orghialla / Airghialla /
Oriel were to the east of Omagh below the
Cenel nEogain and the
Colla Da Crioch Ui
Thuirtre, with the Fir Manach Sept to the south - west of them above
Enniskillen. To the east of the Fir Manach were the Colla
da Crioch Airthir Sept near
Armagh, the Colla da
Crioch Ui Meith Sept were further south below
Enniskillen, the Colla Uais
Mugdorna Sept were to the east of them and to the west of the
Celtic Gaelic Milesian
Irian Ui Echach Cobo
Sept. The Dairtre Sept were south of the Colla Da
Crioch Ui Meith
and the Colla Uais Mugdorna were above Cavan
with the Colla Da Crioch Fir Rois Sept
further to the south - east of the Colla Da Crioch Conaill
Muirtheimne Sept between Cavan and
Dundalk. In the south of the far - west were the
Cairbre / Cairpre
Dromma Sept of
Ulster
situated near Bundoran in
Co. Donegal,
and below them the Dartraige Sept who had their territory still in
Ulster,
to the north of the Calraige Sept near
Sligo in the
Connacht Province.
By the end of this Century
the Cenel nEogain
would expand their "northern"
Ui Niaill
influence further to the south and to the east from Inishowen and Derry across
the plain of
Central Ulster.
They would then slowly bring their kinsmen the
Heremonian Ui Cobhthaigh Ui Felim
Dal Cuinn 3 Colla
Septs, who were in their individual
Tuaths / Family regions there in their kingdom of
Orghialla
also under their
overall control. The
Ulaid Septs along the east coast, and the
"northern" Ui Niaill
Cenel Conaill
in the
north - west would continue to remain opposed to the
Cenel nEogain's
increasing influence
in
Ulster.
Connacht
Province:
the 2 main dominant Septs
here were to still bel the Dal Cuinn
Ui Fiachrach
Sept
descended from
91.Fiachra, and the
Dal Cuinn Ui Briuin
Sept descended from his older brother,
91.Brion
who were Heremonian Ui Cobhthaigh Ui Felim
Dal Cuinn close kinsmen
to the Dal Cuinn
Ui Niaill,
the Dal Cuinn Colla Da Crioch
Ui Maine and the other Dal
Cuinn 3 Colla Septs. The
Ui Fiachrach Sept also by now had
2 main Septs of their own, the "northern"
Ui Fiachrach Muaide Sept and
the "southern" Ui Fiachrach Aidni
Sept.
The "southern"
Ui Fiachrach Aidni Sept
had dominated previously, and
also much of
Northern Munster,
but the authority of their close kinsmen, the
Dal Cuinn Ui Briuin
Septs was now emerging rapidly, and the Ui
Fiachrach Sept's
influence
was by now diminishing. One of the
Dal Cuinn
Ui Briuin
Septs spread
out to the north - east establishing
the kingdom of the Dal Cuinn
Ui Briuin
Breifne right up to the
borders of the Dal Cuinn
Ui Niaill in
the territory of the
Celtic Gaelic Milesian
Irian Conmaicne Rein
Sept, and this created a wedge between the two
more dominant Septs of the
Dal Cuinn "northern" and "southern"
Ui Niaill Septs.
(By the 12th Century AD it would actually be the
Dal Cuinn
Ui Briuin Septs who would
become the most dominant Sept in
Ireland).
Meanwhile at this time the "northern"
Ui Fiachrach Muaide
Sept had their territory in the far - west of
Ballina, with the Heberian Cianacht Luigni
aristocratic warrior Sept near Ballina, the Dal Cuinn
Ui Ailella
Sept were further to the east near
Sligo in Co. Sligo
towards the territory of their close kinsmen the Dal Cuinn
Ui Briuin
Breifne Sept to the west of the Dairtre Sept.
The Heberian Cianachta Gailenga aristocratic warrior Sept in
Connacht was to have their territory near Castlebar,
the Dal Cuinn
Ui Briuin Ai Sept who would come to
dominate in Connacht had their
territory further to the east and the Gaelic Milesian
Irian Conmaicne Rein
Sept were further east still, below the Dal Cuinn Ui Briuin
Breifne Sept. The
Dal Cuinn Ui
Briuin Umaill
Sept that would produce the
O Malleys were near
Westport, in the far - west, and to
the west of the Cianacht Gailenga in
Connacht,
and the Partraige Sept were below them near the west coast. The
Scythian Nemedian Tuatha de Danann Sogain Sept were
to the east of the Partraige Sept in the middle towards Roscommon, with the
eastern Delbna Sept further to the east near Roscommon itself. The
Gaelic Milesian Irian
Conmaicne Mara Sept were near Clifden on the south - west coast below the
Partraige Sept with the Dal Cuinn Ui Briuin Seola to
the east of them above Tuam, to the south - west of the eastern Delbna Sept in
Connacht.
The western Delbna Sept was near
Galway with the Dal Cuinn
Colla Da Crioch
Ui Maine Sept to the east of them near
Ballinsloe, while the Dal Cuinn Ui Fiachrach
Aidni Sept
was to the south below
Galway. Although the "southern"
Ui Fiachrach Aidni Sept had run its race by now their
close
kinsmen the "northern"
Ui Fiachrach Muaide
Sept, who were also descended from 90.Fiachra, were
to still provide 3
Kings of Connacht
during this coming Century, until the Dal Cuinn Ui Briuin
Septs who were descended from his brother, 90.Brion were to
become much more dominant in Connacht.
The Dal Cuinn
Ui Briuin
were to be represented by the Ui Briuin
Umaill
/ O
Malley Sept also near Clew Bay, the Ui Briuin Sinna Sept
who had their territory
in the east of Co.
Roscommon, the Ui Briuin Seola
Sept who had their territory at Tuam in Co.
Galway and these 3 Septs
along with their most important
Ui Briuin Breifne
Sept and the even more important Ui Briuin Ai Sept
were all decended from 91.Brion
who had been the original
first Dal Cuinn King of Connacht, and his
son, 92.Daui "Tenga Uma"
- of the
Sweet Tongue who had also been the 3rd King of Connacht
in the 5th Century AD. The
Dal Cuinn Ui
Briuin Sept had been previously insignificant during the past Century, but
they were now to extend their authority from out of
Central Connacht. Their close kinsmen
the
Ui Briuin Sinna Sept who were originally known
as the Cenel mac Ercae, and their
Ui Briuin Umaill
Sept would be the first to be recorded in 787 AD among the
Ui Briuin Septs.
(The Saer - Tuatha gave a tribute free status in
the Ui Briuin
territory from the
River Shannon to Clew
Bay). Their other close kinsmen the Ui Briuin
Ai Sept were situated at Magh
nAi around Cruachu /
Cruachan from where they would eventually come to monopolise the
Kingship of
Connacht.
Their direct male line ancestor started with 93.Murray
/ Muireadach Mal who had
been a brother to 93.Fergus the direct male line
ancestor also of the Ui Briuin
Breifne
Sept, who did not exist as a separate Sept
before the 8th Century AD, whose territory was to take in
Co. Leitrim and what later became
Co. Cavan in
Southern Ulster
also known as Garb Thrian Connacht
(The Rough Third). They would become much more
predominant in the 11th and 12th Century AD.
91.Brion and 91.Fiachra's
other brother,
91.Ailill who was the direct male line ancestor of the
Dal Cuinn Ui Ailello Sept had only
been able to develop a minor kingdom in Co. Sligo in
what was to become the
Barony of Tir Erill, which was never to be prominent and
over time would decline further leaving the way open for their other
Dal Cuinn kinsmen, the
Heremonian Ui Cobhthaigh Ui
Felim Dal Cuinn Colla Da Crioch Ui
Maine Sept whose over kingdom was to spread over the whole of the
south - east.
Northern
Leinster / Midlands
/ Midhe: The influence
of the Celtic Gaelic Milesian
Heremonian Ui Cobhthaigh Ui Felim
Dal Cuinn "southern" Ui Niaill
Septs
had by now emerged, emanating from the other 5 brothers
of the 8 sons of *90.Niall
-
of the Nine Hostages the previous
126th King of Ireland, in
91.Coirpre / Cairbre
ancestor of the Cenel Cairbre
Sept, 91.Leary
/ Laoghaire ancestor of the Cenel Laoghaire
Sept, 91.Maine ancestor of the Cenel
Maine Sept of Tethbae, and
91.Fiacha ancestor of the Cenel Fiachach
Sept,
but mainly it would be advanced through
91.Conall
Cremthainne who would become the direct male
line ancestor of the Clann Cholmain, the Caille
Follamain Sept and the Siol nAedo Slaine
Septs. These 3
Septs had by now divided into the 2 most
important "southern" Ui Niaill Septs,
through the auspices of his grandson, *93.Diarmait mac Carroll
/
Cerball the previous 133rd
King of Tara / Ireland
who was to be the father of
3 sons who would leave contending aristocratic
warrior issue, including,
94.Colman Bec the ancestor of the
Caille
Follamain Sept,
*94.Aed
Slaine
the previous joint 139th
King of Ireland
ancestor of the Siol
nAedo Slaine Sept, and 94.Colman
Mor the amncestor of the Clann Cholmain
Sept. Of these 3 Septs, it would be those
descending from the Siol nAedo
Slaine and the Clann Cholmain Septs who would
come to control the territory in
the Midlands
/
Midhe (Co.
Westmeath and Co.
Meath). To the north was the eastern Heberian Cianachta
Gailenga Midhe aristocratic warrior Sept, with the actual original territory
of the Heberian Cianachta Sept, descended
from 85.Cian, near the east - coast above Drogheda,
which had been given over originally to 86.Teague
/ Tadhg
mac Cian by
*85,Cormac mac Airt the 115th
King of Tara / Ireland for his part of assisting
him in gaining the
throne of Ireland. The
Heberian
Cianacht Luigne aristocratic warrior Sept, also descended from
85.Cian, were below the
Gailenga Midhe,
while the "southern" Ui Niaill Cairbre /
Cairpre Midhe Sept, descended from 91.Coirpre,
was to the south - west of them, and north- west of Tethbae.
Brega, another of their
kingdoms, was to the east,
and the territory of
*91.Leary / Laoghaire
ancestor of the
Cenel Laoghaire who had also been the previous
128th King of Tara / Ireland was to the
south - west of there, with the Saithne Sept on the east coast below
Brega. To the south -
west was the territory of the Cenel Fiachach
Sept who were descended from another brother, 91.Fiacha, and to the east of
them in the centre was the Heremonian Cu Corb
Ui Cheinnselaig Fir Thulach
Sept with the Cairbre
"Midhe" Sept to the east of them, and to the south - west of the Saithne
Sept.
The Dal Cuinn "southern"
Ui Niaill Siol nAedo Slaine
Sept would be the most dominant up until 728 AD, and altogether they were to
produce 9 Siol nAedo Slaine
"southern" Ui Niaill
Kings of
Ireland.
The
Clann Cholmain
would then become much more dominant in 743
AD and go on to produce the last
7 of the 8 remaining
Clann Cholmain "southern" Ui Niaill
Kings of
Ireland.
Despite this over 200 years later on the
Siol nAedo
Slaine (Seed of Aed
Slaine) Sept would produce one more in
*104.Congalach
Cnogba
- of Knowth the future
168th King of Ireland. (The "southern"
Ui Niaill were to continue to try and
dominate Northern Leinster.)
The "southern" Ui Niaill
Kings of Knowth
/ Cnogba were also to be the over - Kings of
the Heberian Cianachta
Septs in their region, as they had conquered that particular main
Cianachta
Sept south
of the Lower Boyne, while north of the River Boyne the
Cianachta
Kings
were to keep their status in Fir Arda
Cianachta
later the Barony of Ferrard.
Tara
in Co. Meath
with it's ancient ramparts was now chosen by the "southern"
Ui Niaill of
Northern Brega
as their royal fortress as it could be seen from all of the hills in all
of the Provinces.
The Dal Cuinn "southern" Ui Niaill Siol
nAedo Slaine Sept, descended from *94.Aed Slaine,
and therefore from 91.Conall
Cremthainne would basically see the end of
their participation in the Kingship of Ireland by
728 AD, and the "northern" Ui Niaill
Cenel Conaill Sept who were descended from a brother to
91.Conall Cremthainne, namely
91.Conall Gulban, would also produce their
last King of Ireland by 743 AD. The
Clann Cholmain Sept, descended from an older half - brother
to *94.Aed Slaine,
in 94.Colman Mor would
finally come to the fore in their own right, and from then on would
share the Dal Cuinn Ui Niaill Kingship
of Ireland only with their close kinsmen the"northern
Ui Niaill Cenel
nEogain Sept, descended from another of
*90.Niall "- of the Nine Hostages sons, 91.Eogan
ancestor of the\Cenel nEogain.
The Cenel nEogain from then on, when
not acting as the Kings
of Ireland, were to be the Kings
of Aileach in
the north of the Ulster Province, while claiming
allegiance from their close "northern"" Ui Niaill kinsmen
the Cenel Conaill and the lesser
Gaelic Milesian kingdoms there in the north in
Ulster Province. At
the same time in the
Midlands
/
Midhe / Northern Leinster the "southern"
Ui Niaill Clann Cholmain King
of Meath ruled over the
"southern"
Ui Niaill from the River
Shannon
eastwards to the sea. Despite this the Siol nAedo Slaine
kingdom in Brega in
Co. Meath in the south - east nevertheless remained a
separate Ui Niaill
kingdom with the Siol nAedo Slaine Sept still
predominant over the other Septs there, including their
close kinsmen the "southern" Ui Niaill
Cenel nArdgail
Sept, descended from 91.Ardgal,
another son of 91.Conall
Cremthainne and the "southern'
Ui Niaill Cenel Laoghaire Sept, descended
from *91.Laoghaire who had
been the 128th King of Tara /
Ireland in his own right, and "the older son of
*90.Niall - of the Nine
Hostages the 126th
King of Tara / Ireland).
Southern Leinster;
The Celtic
Gaelic Milesian Heremonian
Septs descending from 86.Cu
Corb who was
a descendant of
78.Lewy /
Lughaidh) one of the 2 sons of
77.Breasal Breac, whose grandson,
*80.Nuadhas
Neacht had become the
Heremonian
Ui Laoghaire Ui Lughaidh
96th
King of Tara
/
Erinn.
after 12 generations of their
particular Sept being out in the cold. (They in turn were all
descended from *60.Leary
/ Laoghaire Lorc
the 68th
King of
Tara / Ireland and his father,
*59.Ugaine Mor - the Great the
66th King of
Tara
/ Ireland who had been a contemporary of Alexander the
Great. (*59.Ugaine Mor
- the Great was in turn
descended from *37.Eremon). (The
Cu Corb Sept
were by now the most dominant Sept in
Southern Leinster.) Of
these the Ui
Dunlainge Sept descending from
94.Dunlaing, a son of
93.Enna Nia, a son of 92.
Bressal Belach
who was the
1st Cu Corb King
of
Leinster,
who had been a grandson of
*90.Cahir
/ Cathair
Mor the 109th King of
Tara / Ireland was to be the most prominent.
Their Cu Corb Ui
Faelain Sept emanating from
103.Faelan the Cu Corb 16th King
of Leinster had their territory in the north -
west, while their Cu Corb
Ui Mail kinsmen, emanating from
90.Maine Mal, known as the Ui
Chellaig Cualann Sept had their territory to the south - east of them
to the
west of Dublin.
(The
Ui Dunlainge Sept had their territory also below the
Ui Faelain Sept). Their
other Cu Corb kinsmen,
the Dal Messin Corb Ui
Garrchon Sept emanating from 87.Mess Corb
and his great -
grandson 90.Garrchu was situated on
the east - coast to the east of the
Ui Dunlainge Sept.
Their other
Cu Corb
kinsmen the
Ui Bairrche Sept, emanating from
91.Daire Barrach, were to the south of the
Ui Dunlainge
Sept, and the
Ui Enechglais Sept, emanating from his
brother, 91.Bressal Enechglas were on the east -
coast to the south of the Ui Garrchon Sept and to
the south - east of the Ui Bairrche
Sept. (Both
were sons of 90.Caher /
Cathair Mor the
109th King of Tara / Ireland). The
Ui Drona Sept who were descended from
94.Dron, a son of 93.Labraid
Laidech, who was another son of
92.Bressal Belach the
1st King of Leinster, was in the south -
west below these and to the west of the Ui
Cheinnselaig / Kinsellagh Sept in the far south - east, who were
descended from his brother, 94.Enna
Cennsalach who
had been the Cu Corb 2nd King
of Leinster, and they were by now slowly losing their grip on the
Kingship of Leinster. In the east the most dominant Cu Corb Sept was that of
101.Kelly / Cellach
Cualann who was the present
Cu Corb Ui Mail
13th King of
Leinster who was to become the direct male line ancestor of the
Ui Chellaig Cualann Sept.
He was descended from 97.Aed
Dibchine a previous 6d King
of Leinster through 90.Maine
Mal the direct male line ancestor also of the
Ui Mail
Sept and the Ui Theig
Sept who was also descended from 86.Cu
Corb. Also the
Heremonian Ui Laoghaire Ui Connla Septs,
(who were also descended from *60.Leary
/ Laoghaire Lorc,) but through
78.Lewy's / Lughaidh's
brother, 78.Connla, had their territory in the
south - west in their kingdom of Ossory
in what is now
Co. Kilkenny bordering on Co.
Tipperary in the north - east of the Munster
Province,
who would in the future culminate in
the Ui Giolla Mac Padraig Sept
anglicized as
Fitz Patrick.
Northern Munster:
in the far - north to the east of the River Shannon was the Delbna
of Munster above the
Cu Corb Ui Failge
Sept with the Heremonian
Ui Cobhthaigh Ui Conaire
Muscraige Tire Sept, descended from *88.Conaire
11 the 111th King of
Tara / Ireland, who were near Birr in Co. Offaly.
The Gaelic Milesian Irian Ui Loigis
Sept were to the east of them along the
Leinster
border, as was the Osraige Sept below them,
and the Heberian Cianachta
Eile Sept, descended from 85.Cian,
were to the south below the Muscraige Tire
Sept.The Uaithne Sept were near
Limerick
and the Heberian
Eoghanacht Chaisil Sept was to the east of them
in Co.
Tipperary.
The Eoghanacht Ui
Fidgeinti Sept were below Adare in Co.
Limerick and the Eoghanacht Aine were
below the Ciarraige Luachra
Sept near Tralee. The Heremonian
Ui Cobhthaigh Ui Conaire
Muscraige Corca Duibne Sept was at Dingle, and the
Eoghanacht Locha Lein Sept were to the east of
them, with the Eoghanacht
Glendamnach Sept to
the east of them. The Deisi
Muman Sept were near
Waterford
on the south - east coast, and the
Eoghanacht Ui Liathain
Sept were further to the south of them near
Cork. To the south - west along the
coastal region were the Eoghanacht Raithlind
Sept, and to the west of them near Bantry the remaining
Gaelic
Ithian Corca
Loigde Sept.
In
Co. Clare
to the west of the River Shannon in the far -
northern corner at this time there was still the
Heberian Cianacht Corca Mruad
aristocratic warrior
Sept, descended also from 85.Cian, and below them
the Heremonian Ui Cobhthaigh
Ui Conaire Muscraige
Corca Baiscind Sept, descended from 89..Cairbre
"Baschaoin," another
of the 3
sons of *88.Conaire 11
the
111th King of Tara / Ireland,
with the
Heberian Dal gCais Septs, descended from 91.Cas,
along the banks of the River Shannon in the north - west.
Southern
Munster:
The
Gaelic
Ithian Corca Loigde aristocratic warrior Sept based originally on the
Erainn Septs had early on been in control there up
until now, but the Heberian Eoghanacht Septs
in the north - east from Cashel and Glanworth began to really dominate, as they had begun to rule here from the 7th
Century AD, and would do so until the middle of the 10th Century AD in
their own right, when the Cashel / Munster Kingship
would be passed on to the emerging Heberian Dal gCais Ui
Bloid Ui Turlough Sept. The
Heberian Eoghanacht
Kings of
Cashel / Munster
at this time also relied heavily on the Heberian Dalcassian warriors
from Thomond /
Northern Munster to back them up as they were always, "The first into
battle and the last out, " and this commitment was only strengthening the
Dalcassians' ability to fight for their own cause when it was to arrive.
The Culdees, a reforming Celtic spiritual movement,
maintained the Celtic Catholic Church in Ireland,
Scotland and in parts of
Briton and the Celtic Gaels
in the north of
Briton and the Celtic
Britons were to be overwhelmed during the 8th Century AD.
705 AD - 709 AD The Celtic Welsh
from the north of Briton attacked the Teutonic
Germanic Anglo -
Saxons in the kingdom of Mercia situated on the border with
Wales and a as result the
Anglo - Saxon King of Mercia constructed a linear earthwork from the estuary of
the River Dee to the River Morda near Owestry
known as Wat's Dyke.
711 AD Roderick the last of the Goth / Visigoth Kings of
Spain was killed in battle against the Moors who now dominated Spain.
733 AD Ethelbald the Teutonic Germanaic Anglo - Saxon King of Mercia became
the King of Wessex.
737 / 40 AD Angus mac Fergus
the Celtic King of the Picts carried out a
devastating attack on the Celtic Heremonian
Ui Cobhthaigh
Dal Cuinn "northern"
Ui Niaill Cenel
nEogain kingdom of
Dal Riada in the
Scottish Highlands and captured their strongholds
and drowned one of their Scottii
Chieftains and this forced
many of the other Scottii to leave
the territory there and return back over to
Ireland. Despite this setback the
Scottii of
Dal Riada would return to
fight another day as there would be many conflicts between the
Scottii and the
Picts, and the Celtic
Heremonian Scottii would
eventually gain the upper hand to absorb the
Picts. The
Picts would become Christians under their
King Nechtan mac Derile.
Offa the Teutonic Germanic Saxon King
of Mercia was to continue to construct an earthworks that was longer then Hadrian's Wall
along the boundary with Wales extending from
Treuddyn to Chepstow that became known as Offa's Dyke. In the north of
Wales was the island of Anglesey, which formed part
of the kingdom of Gwynedd the most important Celtic
kingdom in Wales, which was at times to ally with
the Teutonic Germanic Anglo - Saxons in Mercia against the Northumbrians. Also in the north - east
of the border in Wales was to be the kingdom of
Powys. In Wales there
was also the Principalities of Gwent in the south -
east, and Dyfed in Pembroke, whose aristocratic
warrior Septs claimed descent from Magnus Maximus.
741 AD Charles Martel, died, who was the illegitimate son
of Pepin the Younger of France, as Mayor of the Palace to the Merovingian
nominal Kings.
752 AD Cuthred of Wessex defeated Ethelbald the Teutonic
Germanic Saxon
King of Mercia.
756 AD Strathclyde was
subdued by Angus mac Fergus the
King of the Picts and Ethelbert the Teutonic
Germanic Saxon King of
Northumbria, who also attacked Dunbarton where he was defeated.
757 AD Offa became the Teutonic Germanic Saxon King of Mercia and overlord
of Briton.
761 AD
Angus
/ Oengus the the
Scythian
Gaelic King
of the Picts,
died.
777 AD Offa the Teutonic Germanic Saxon King of Mercia defeated Cynewulf
the Teutonic Germanic Saxon King of Wessex.
784 AD - 796 AD Offa theTeutonic Germanic King of Mercia created the
border between the Celtic Welsh and the Teutonic
Germanic Anglo - Saxons when he was to construct Offa's Dyke during this period that
was even bigger, along most of the boundary, and due to the Teutonic Germanic Anglo - Saxon
pressure many of the smaller kingdoms in Wales
that had
occurred, such as Gwent
and Ergying, were to be absorbed early on for
their own protection.
789 AD Egbert who was a rival for the Teutonic Germanic
Saxon Kingship of Wessex in Albion / Briton was
